Will the 200 pre-req be lowered with latest suit technology?
mccordia replied to mixedup's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Regardless of brand, most suits allow 'limited reach' when lifting legs. Something that works okay on a clean opening, but during a spin or on a twisted up canopy, lifting knees will be something that wont happen (as many videos of these situations on youtube etc show as well). Most sleeves that are supposed to offer easy reach also depend in function largely based on the clothing worn underneath. 200 skydives already isnt much....if somebody doesnt even have the energy to enter a sport with the least possible effort...why even bother to get instruction or do any skydives at all before flying a wingsuit. Skydiving has shown multiple wingsuit related accidents linked to low experience. In basejumping, wingsuits also are a large percentage of accidents. In hardly any of the accidents in these two sports, the ability or lack of reach to 'reach toggles' is part of the reason those accidents happen. At 200 skydives, you have slightly over 3 hours of experience in the sport. Try entering a profesional boxing match with 3 hours of training....much more fun to watch for us...much less dangerous for you JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
The pouch does not present a huge chance at premature openings during normal flight, but its the other random stuff that happens on any given skydive that presents a danger. The orientation of the pilotchute makes its easy to slide out the pouch during accidental brushes past other jumpers on exit. Sitting on the pouch/bridle on the ride up. Easily catching the pilotchute on edges of the door. Its all stuff that has happened MANY times before. Its a shame skydivingmovies.com is no longer there, as there was a brilliant collections of group exits gone bad with premature (base pouch related) openings. Indeed, its not smart to switch back and forth. But if training for BASE, stick to doing so on dedicated solo dives where you dont endanger other people with a potential premature opening, and the exit is not rushed as it often is in group jumps. And thats even outside the stuff I see some people do (backflying, aerobatics) with their pilotchute in that location. Its designed with a specific purpoise in mind....and not ment to be used outside of those design parameters... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Most (if not all) Load Organisers will (or should) not allow the use of the pouch on flocking jumps. Unless you're keen on feeding a jumping partner a canopy into his mouth on an exit....dont use it on anything else but solo practice for BASE... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

The reach for the legpouch is 'under' the wing. Let go of the gripper (it blows back) and just place your arm/hand on your leg, and there it is.... The BASE pouch is only used/needed for BASE. If thats not your intent, dont use the pouch for normal skydiving, as its much easier to dislodge during a bad exit and/or bump with another flyer. Its definately an easier en quicker pull technique, much needed for BASE. But on normal skydives, the extra half a second the BOC position takes, and/or potential small delay due to searching for the hackey is less of a problem. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Let us know after the weekend how the first jump on the suit went! Curious to see the results. The suit design combined with your build should be pretty awesome... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Inlet design Stretch Sleeve design Functional Cutaway System Legwing/Armwing shape and width/thickness Its closer to the Stealth2 than it is to the Xbird. Flying the V compared to X also differs quite a bit. Several basejumpers tested both suits against eachother a few weeks back and found the fwd speed on the Venom a bit quicker and handling/steering a tad easier, glide seemed to roughly be the same. And than opted to buy another brand clearly copied from both for the cheaper price That said, everyone will like another suit for what it brings to their flying. Fly what you like, fly what fits your flying style (or wallet) Even two suits fully flying within the same flight envelope by different manufacturers can offer different style, fit, safety features or otherwise that may make one choose a certain model or brand over another. Try and focus on the unique aspects of each suit, instead of this eternal 'one copies the other' discussion... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Ive seen some other GPSes get weird/corrupted from being mounted on GoPros/cameras. Dont know if the camera itself of the battery caused the weird spikes in data. But mounting it 'clean' seems to be best regardless. Last weekends Ive been jumping the FLySight in a n easy/cheaper mount. An Iphone/Ipod sportsband. Its a simple thing that wraps around the arm, and the FlySight is easily dropped into it. The earphones even go through a special channel/hole on the thing, and I can switch it on/off visually without taking of my helmet. And sitting in the plane, its also against the window (Cessna Caravan) to locate signal/satalites (as I usually forgot to turn it on beforehand). Cost me 5 bucks, and no rigging needed at all. Also use it for (just) logging on solo jumps, without headphones (as I like jumping without a helmet). Mounted on the arm, its oriented perfect in flight. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Most likely that year was 2002 than...the number (at least according to Jari back than) was linked to the year in which the suit came out/was designed. The Skyflyer 1 (S1) came out in 2001 The Skyflyer 3 (S3) came out in 2003 Ive flown a Skyflyer 3 1/2 or whatever it was for a long time. I white suit which was AFAIK the last suit Robert made while at BM. It was a Skyflyer3, with a wider legwing, and mylar ribs. The tail extended slightly further past/down the toes (though got shortened a bit due to damage from walking in it too much) The Skyflyer1 with 'skyflyer 3' style legwing is actually still around in quite a few places. Many people moded their Skyflyer1 after the skyflyer 3 came out. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

End of this month Costyn and I expect to finish up on the first complete draft (+- 160 pages) and send that out to a few of our friends for proof-reading. After thats its on to graphics/photos etc. Aiming to have everything done before the end of the summer. So far its past 100 pages, with only about half written so far of the chapters outlined. There will be no info on wingsuit models, but strictly a focus on techniques, manouvres, formation flying etc. More info on that subject soon JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Oh god....you people DO realize well get into +- 5000 suits, instead of just the commercialy available ones. And we'll end up ignoring a good portion of suits that people never heard about, or never made it publicly.... Id stick to listing 'the complete list of production model wingsuits' Also seeing as much of the performance, or actual details on a lot of the proto/homework projects are largely unknown.. According to Loics website, it was 2001. We'll update that one JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I do see several suits in the list that never made it to 'for sale/production models'. Unless you want to add about 50 more suits where no more than 1 was made, a bit of weeding through the list and sticking to 'production/for sale' models only would be good... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

- S3S and S6 are both the same suit. Just different name. - There was an X-Wing in between the Blade en Tengu...a suit only flown by a few of the TopGun team guys. not worth mentioning, as it wasnt a commercially available suit.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I also think the Trackingsuit 'special' is not really anything needing seperate listing. Its just an option on the standard trackingsuit, that's already standard on most suits produced these days. And though hard to keep track with the 'buy this week, outdated the next one' approach of constantly changing models....Xbird/Xwing seem to be the same suit if Im not mistaken? Ive also seen Apache X mentioned by some. And there also used to be some Russian copies of classics/GTi's, but no clue who made em. Also a lot of single prototype suits by people who never went the way of actually selling. We have a bit of wingsuit history on flylikebrick.com as well at http://flylikebrick.com/wingsuit-history.php If anyone has any additions there, let us know.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Its actually two companies if I remember correct... For some reason Birdman Oy. (Finish variation of .Ltd) was created as a 2nd company and investors sought out to fund the clothing stuff. When the clothing thing didnt take of as expected, and people wanting their invested money came calling, the company Birdman oy. was declared Bankrupt with a big statement on the website. But from what I get, Birdman Inc. is still a company thats free of debt, and owned/run by Jari. Not sure they sell anything though (clothing or wingsuits). JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Just wanted to show the first segment of a new series of shorts we will be adding to the PF Vimeo account the coming weeks. Short videos that focus on one location, showing some beautifull high speed flying between the trees, mountains and cracks found throughout Europe by the N4S team. Check it out here JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
