  1. Motion tracking a 3D face-replacement to an animatronic puppet and animating it (for the film we're working on) Actualy not that difficult, but it sounded so damn cool that I just HAD to say it.. The difficult thing was getting up at 7:00 AM after only 3,5 hours of sleep... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  2. Just end the video with the shot of the canopy flying through the air in the distance and fade to black. Or wait untill the guy comes back to the dropzone to pick up his tape, and film an ending there (too bad it didn't go 100% perfect, but we hope you had a great time!!) Because no matter what ending you put on tape, he'll be telling the story to everyone who's seeing it....and just being friendly and open about it (without showing the actual landing) would probably be better then ignoring it all together and coming up with some BS story on how 'my battery died' Just my 0,02$ (or 0,0148 euro-cents) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  3. Last weekend, I took 4 friends (fellow 3D animators) to the dropzone, and watched them all do tandemjumps (also jumped along with one of them) They where all in the same plane, and after landing they all started huging everyone they could find on the fields...the videoguy..tandemmaster...each other....they where freaked right out of their brains on that one :) On a Dutch 3D forum where we all post, one of the guys posted this (in Dutch) to describe his first experience... Thought it was such a nice explanation that I just had to share :) 3D totaly sucks! Yesterday morning I had 'real life' hit me in the face at 200 km/h How amazing! Like you've never heard of sex in your whole life, and at your 40th hired one of the most expensive escorts in the world to 'explain' it to you a whole weekend. I'd wish we could do this again at sunset sometime...it's the bomb!!!!! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  4. I was talking about a birdman in a game like Quake/Unreal...that it would probably be boring.. Where-as a birdman in Flightsimulator would probably be way more fun... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  5. I didn't get it anywhere...I made it... The model is actualy for another (video) project I'm working on. But when that's done (next month) I might look into using this model for something like a flight-sim or maybe something like unreal-tournement...
  6. what....where....who....when? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  7. A lot of places here (Holland) have those...and it works... They are even a few toilets with a black square that turns into text if you manage to piss on it for 5 seconds or longer (usualy says something like 'nice aim') Don't you just love this country..(shity weather aside) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  8. Punching someone is something I'd never do (not for something like this) But it just left me wondering how someone could get so much sick enjoyment over people dying in some sport.. And if it had been a conversation that had been leading up to skydiving as a subject, I might have understood (a bit) But it almost looked like he just wanted to make that comment regardless of the subject... "haha..someone died!!"??? sick JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  9. I was talking to a guy I'm doing some (3Danimation) work for. He knew I jumped (although we had never talked about it before) We just talked about much work he had supplied the past weeks. It was just a normal conversation when all of a sudden, completely out of the blue he just flashed an evill smile and sayd.."haha...and while you worked there where already 3 dead people skydiving...serves 'em righ" I just responded with a shocked "Excuse me?" He then AGAIN sayd the same thing, trying to get a laugh.. But the serious/hating way in which he sayd it was realy upsetting...real serious..scary I just walked away. But I realy felt like hitting him on the face....what kind of sick behaviour is that? I've known those 'funny/scared' questions (what if it doesn't open/can you breathe in freefall blablabla), but this sick enjoyment/hope for people to die is just upsetting.. Anybody else ever got comments like that? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  10. The easyest way to 'convert' is to just capture the footage to a computer that can capture in both DV and PAL (via firewire or anolgue capture, doesn't matter) and then (dirty method) just render the footage to the other format via premiere (just export an NTSC clip with PAL settings or the other way around) But this does tend to give you some frame-jitters (due to the buggy 30 fps/25fps conversion without frame-blending) If you want to do it realy good. Capture your NTSC or PAL footage, and then zip it through After Effects (with frame blending) and rescale your footage to the correct resolution. The only downside is that you do have to do some rendering and setting up every time you want to convert something (although rendering is usualy pretty quick) The last method or an expensive 'hardware' PAL/NTSC converter are the only ways of doing realy good transfers from NTSC resolution/framerate to PAL resolution/framerate If your at the herc boogie, and your laptop/pc can capture both PAL and NTSC via firewire I can show you how to do a conversion in AfterEffects. The good thing about the After Effects conversion is that you realy convert pal to true ntsc (or the other way around) so you'll have no problems playing everything back on your camcorder/pc/dvd player or whatever you want to use it for.. 11. Clipping from todays (Dutch) Metro newspaper source: www.clubmetro.nl/metro/ Russian rescuers help the Austrian Basejumper Christina Grubelnik. The parachutist jumped from ... and crashed into it. She was transported to the hospital with severe injuries. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  12. The last few jumps I've been sort of 'stuck' at around 70/65mph or so (Skyflyer, weigh about 85 Kg without my rig) But I still look like a flying plank, there's probably more speed to be won/lost in de-arching more at the hips..... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  13. I was just wondering what kind of times/fall-rate people where experiencing at what weight and how many jumps it took them to get their fallrate down to where it's at now...? When you first start out and you hear those stories of 2 to 3 minute dives from 12000 ft, you tend tend to get discouraged quickly when you cant get any slower then xxx mph the first few jumps. A small list of (now 'slow-falling':)) peoples exprience (BM jumps and maybe regular jumps when they started?) could maybe give fast-falling first-timers something to aim for...? Maybe something like this? fixional example El Duderino 1,85 (meters) 85Kg 1st BM jump at 900 jumps 0-10 BM jumps - Classic II - 90 mph avg. 10-30 BM jumps - Classic II - 65 mph avg (trying hard) 400 BM jumps - S3 - 11 mph avg (on my back picking my nose) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  14. Felix was on the Dutch TV news last night. He was sayd to be the first that base-jumped from a new bridfe in France They also showed his lowest basejump in the world again (from Jesus-arm) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  15. 9/10 But the examples here are not by far the best ones... I've seen 3D stuff that makes you look 20 times before you realize it's fake... Wish I get up to that standard some day :) http://home.kabelfoon.nl/~fxcordia/3d_images/elan/p_elan_vergader.jpg (shameless plug:)) Real of Fake hehe JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  16. He used to have a homepage (captain3d.com) which had a couple of skydiving shots of him on there. He has one of the ugliest jumpsuits on the face of this planet :) Just like me doing RW :) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

  18. Am I the only one who didn't know this? - Patrick Swayze sang that "She's like the wind" song? (add more!!:)) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  19. I normaly have so much visual interaction with my jumping buddy, a full-face helmet (although it might be safer) does take a lot of the big smiles and laughter away (visualy)... I'd rather jump with someone who's face I can see... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  20. I'VE GOT THE SKYDIVING LINK!! - Steve Jobs, is co-owner of Pixar (who makes cool 3D animated movies) - One of the employess of Pixar is Phil McNeely, who made the cool animated short Pump Action (SFW:) http://www.adobe.co.uk/motion/features/pumpaction/main.html - Phil McNeely (also known as Captain 3D) is a skydiver (and probably several more Pixar employees)...Sooooo..he probably told Steve Jobs to make a Tandem Video Editing app! So A skydiver told a pixar exec. to tell Apple to make it! Too far fetched? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  21. 50 mph is cool for a first jump Saskia... But do keep in mind that most people don't weigh 20 kg like you do hehehe JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  22. The footage of Luis Cani landing his VX - 39 is already incredible, but I you see him flying in close formation with a wingsuiter in this video you'll go nuts....waayyyy cool!! Vidéo do Luis Cani com o VX- 39 - 5.721 Kb http://www.cbpq.org.br/downloads.php JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  23. Safe yourself the trouble of going out to the edge of the air collomn...just toss your pilot while your still inside...the tunnel wil do the rest? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  24. I've been thinking how it would be nice to put your camera (on a topmount) side-ways (layed down) As most video you shoot while BM-ing along-side someone is usualy tilted about 90 degrees...anyone ever try this? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  25. It's a 'rule' that replaces counting in between exits according to some people. Basicly from what I learnt here on dz.com it means this... The 45 degree rule: The angle at which someones fist will hit your head after you nearly miss an opening canopy from someone who jumped before you (when using 'the 45 degree rule' instead of just counting a few seconds for decent seperation between exits) Question: If you look out the door and see someone that exited a second before you, about 10 meters behind/below the plane, at a 45 degree angle...would you jump? Try this for a better answer> http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=954278 JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
