Wingsuit demo and smoke, how to pop it
mccordia replied to kansasskydiver's topic in Wing Suit Flying
I think it should possible to just swing your feet out, and pop the smoke-canisters while you are still sitting in the door. And then proceed to climb out with the rest of your body. And once you're outside, have your buddy do the same thing...feet out, pop smoke, climb out and both go! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
You forgot to mention how you screamed "Oh shit!" before the canopy opened...in English, rather than your native Dutch. -C. "Oh shit" is native Dutch...it's just pronounced different "Oh Schjit" I guess Jaap is not the person to play with when it comes to a low-pull contest...glad you're still around dude....I'll see you when you're back in 'the lowlands' in a few months... Just a thought/question.. Are there any BASE jumpers out there, who have a lot of jumps, but just never bothered to get a BASE number (for whatever reason)? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Wingsuit weekends @ Teuge, The Netherlands.
mccordia replied to ParaShoot's topic in Wing Suit Flying
We flew 2 loads today (bad weather) and we did a few 4/5 ways (most people are showing up tomorrow...didn't come today with the rain and clouds and all..) We managed to land 12,5 Kilometers from the dropzone due to some incompetent a**hole flying base, who had no idea where he was going (okay..nobody could see a thing or had a clue about where we where.....but you have to blame someone) Wonder who that was.... Farmers with Pitchforks in the field where we landed, a lot of yelling in Dutch (lucky James didn't understand one word) then realizing nobody had a mobile phone with him...and taking the one female wingsuiter in the flock to an old lady down the road the ask in a shy, polite way if we could use the phone... Back just in time for beer and dinner....(pics from saskia will follow) She has 150 wingsuit jumps now btw. (as opposed to the one above..where she had 6) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
You can find a normal (single layer) DVD burner for as low as 25 euro's here in Holland Saskia....1 jump-ticket down the drain, but probably worth it Just do a search on pricewatch.nl for the cheepest online store.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

When saving it via Virtual Dub, in the compression roll-out, choose a compression for both video and audio (put it on 'full processing mode for the audio'). Divx for video and Divx/mp3 for the audio probably work best. And then save the file. It wil be waaay smaller then the 800 MB you ended up with. Those sizes happen easely when you are saving uncompressed video. In terms of getting good sizes...try using Windows Media Cleaner, or some of the 'wizards' in Adobe Premiere's Media Encoder. Getting good clean files in variable formats and sizes is as easy as selecting a template and rendering/saving. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

This distortion often arrises when you capture your audio on a 33.000 Khz sample-rate. This works without a problem if all audio in your project is of this sample rate, but often goes wrong when using it in compination with music (usualy 44.000 Khz mp3's) When converting/rendering the whole project to 44.000 khz for DVD, at the points where the 33.000 Khz audio mixes with the 44.000 khz audio, bad distortion/crackin noises arrise when premiere triest to upsample the DV audio. If you just capture all your footage with 48.000 khz audio, Premiere Pro has no problems when downsampling it to DVD (in combination with music/whatever) and youll never have any bad noise in your audio. So just capturing at this higher sample-rate usualy solves the issue (if you have it) Must be some kind of Premiere Pro bug, since Premieres 'classic' series (up untill version 6.5) never had any troubles with this... Click the roll-out tab next to your selected audio-track Enable/show clip volume, and you have the 'classic' rubberbands that you can just drag/move up and down to change the volume JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Thoughts on my video? Flying and editing...
mccordia replied to masher's topic in Photography and Video
What's wrong with page-turn transitions But seriously...I think it mostly depends on the type of video you are editing. If it's cool and flashy you want, dissolves are not always handy. A quick cut, timed to the music wil look much cooler. Transitions wil often work quite nice when the editing supposed to be slow in timing.. Like this vid, when the pace quickens, the transitions are dropped, and it's just quick cuts (on the pace of the music) http://www.bird-man.com/?n=hercules_boogie But not to take anything away from your video (even though this is a fun side-track) pretty cool flying, and nice editing. It kept my attention while watching, and that to me is the only real thing you can judge a video on...will people watch it, or just click it away/turn it off....so I say you did a great job :) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
I think if you count the number of clicks it won't make much of a difference...it's more whats your personal preference and what you want to do.. If you use the keyframes/rubber bands, it easyer to also tweak audio levels through-out a clip (something I tend to do a lot). If it's just fade-ins/fade-outs, then the audio crossfades are probably quickest.. Both methods are relativly easy...just checking the premiere help-file wil show you how to use both methods step-by-step. Always a handy reference.. p.s. Really enjoyed that last vid you did saskia. Wanted to talk to you about that, but I'll see you this weekend..(weather permitting) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Or put the time-slider where you want the audio to be 100%, then in the effect controlls>audio panel, click 'create keyframe' and then go to the end of your clip, and do the same thing, but this time, drag the volume slider down to 0%. Or ask your subject and everyone else around you to silence slowly as you are shooting...creating a realtime fade-out..... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Don't know how it works over there, but in Holland, you need 1000 jumps and a C licence and (I think) 5 years in the sport te even be allowed to take the TM exam.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Lens fogged up.. is there a way to fix it?
mccordia replied to vdschoor's topic in Photography and Video
You can do a rough fix that brings back 'some' detail, but you'll probably never get it as good as the original footage. but should you have footage that needs to look a bit better... I've taken the pic posted above, and ran it through a simple correction (best done in After Effects/Shake or simular, but batch-processing on seperate frames in PS would also work) You basicly define the fog-spot, and then do a color correction on that region only (ramping up the contrast a bit) If needed, drop me a PM and I can set you up with a file in After Effects.. One quick last reply...Divx comes in variable versions..only installing the full version will give you divx encoding abilities.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
-
Either save it as a normal AVI (or whatever format) en use an external encoding program (Windows media cleaner or Virtual Dub) I'm not familiar with Pinnacle Studio, but I think in exporting you should be able to choose a compression format for .avi's and select DIVX. There's also a Pinnacle Adavanced Codec Pack they are ofering ($10 I think) that allows for divx export...but I think it should probably work with the standard codecs as well.. *SPANK* SVCD and DVD both are MPG2 compressed... Great video...he certainly flew a helluvalot better then I did on my first WS jump JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

It may take a while for files to get approved and sorted to the correct dirs..(that partialy unhooked tandemvid sure is freaky though...) Craig was already a cool guy, and he put it here

Anyone ever turn off his Mobile-phone during a day of jumping, only to find out you missed a cool 8000 ft-wingsuit-sunset-Balloon-jump? And then, coming home late at night and finding these photo's in your mailbox with the text "Wish you were here...pick up your phone next time Cheers, Jean-Louis" (aka J-lo) Yes...I cried myself to sleep....
