I guess it would mostly come done to what you define as a "wingsuiter" At least 25+ wingsuit jumps per year? I dont want to start a debate, or even set a definition. But looking at Holland. I think we have around 75 or so people who own a wingsuit or borrow one every once in a while to make a jump (rough estemate). Some of those make more then a few jumps a year, some only one. But if I where to name all the people who truly fly their wingsuits more often, who practice wingsuiting as a dicipline, I think Holland would count maybe 10 or so flyers.. And I think thats the same worldwide..you have people who made 1/5 wingsuit jumps, and might only do it again at a boogie a few times in the coming few year. People who own suits but hardly ever fly them. And a bunch of active flyers... What the count would be for each group...no clue.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Its just like any other high performance suit more and more people seem to recommend to newbies.. Just like advising them to try high speed exits from planes with low rear stabilasor at low altitudes with low jumpnumbers.. No sense in doing so..but still people do When the S3 just came out, people where giving these (and worse) warnings about flying it with little experience. And somewhere along the line, the S3 became a beginners suit in the peoples minds. And people with little to no previous skills in a wingsuit are now suddenly advised to go and fly a high performance suit like an S3, V2, S6 straight from the start...."you'll be fine" I see no hurt in telling people what they should know holds true for any suit with bigger wings.. Even though its not the nicest video to watch, I think this video is excactly what some people need to realise just how serious the effects of hypoxia are. As you sayd, people have talked about it more then a dozen times..but actually seeing it alerts people much more to how serious it can be.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Birdman Suit from King Air Hop & Pop; Bird Man Instructor
mccordia replied to fortress913's topic in Wing Suit Flying
But that probably wasnt a 4K load..? The need to do hop&pops in case of an emergency (or squeeze in 30 seconds of freefall in 1000 ft with help of the throw from the airplane) is great fun, and yea, maybe experience everyone should have for when the shit hits the fan. But again, in this case there is no need to do this.. Practicing the new high speed exit from a safe altitude first (just like you did) is a smart thing to do..adding one new factor per jump is enough...lower exit/shorter freefal, higher exitspeed, different exit/plane all at once is asking for trouble.. Birdman Suit from King Air Hop & Pop; Bird Man Instructor
mccordia replied to fortress913's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Hey glen, aside from your own reasons to do this jump (which would also be mine)I do disagree with you on all three point when its aimed at the question (and person) that started this thread.. Not really a valid point when someone only has 25 wingsuit jumps... Skillwise he will benefit much more from a full altitude jump..both safety wise and in terms of practice.. If bad weather means you cant get the jumping conditions (in this case altitude) you need to make your jump safely (based on your own skills), then you shouldnt jump... Its only fun if its all within your own comfortzone..otherwise its called dangerous/stupid.. Being an expert in that second catagory, I advice dont JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
From cathy on a French skydiving board (translated): A new suit will be available within a few months : S-FLY PROFLY. The suit will be available for demo-flights at the time of the wingsuit gathering in Gap Tallard in May. Like all our products, it will be available on stock. Fly it and form your own opinion. Good flights. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Birdman Suit from King Air Hop & Pop; Bird Man Instructor
mccordia replied to fortress913's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Retracting my troll statement, and definaley stand with what I wrote a few posts up. At 4K, not too much experience on wingsuits, a small cramped door, high exit speed, and hardly any altitude to recover if things go wrong...Id recomend trying that same jump from a King Air at 12k first before you start doing hop&pops.. mccordia replied to fortress913's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Aside from the obvious trolling...whats the use of doing a hop&pop when the exit might be sketchy, and being a lowtimer, the exit altitude you mention should be your pull altitude..? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -

ok, im going try and post something without one-liners and quotes about adventures with ponies.. I think there's about 10 people flying blades at the moment at this moment, non of whom have experience flying a V2 (or at least not more then one or two jumps). Like any suit, Id just give it a few months untill there's more then just a dozen people flying it, and see how its performing in the field.. The boogie season is slowly starting up, and you should be able to see the suits flying side by side if you want to compare. But in general, I would tend to agree with chucks comments about the enviroment for which both where designed.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I think the V2 is mostly found in orange/black, and the blade in white/black/red.. And people will be racing at Zflock to see who flies best.. Designwise, both manifacturers sites have sections where you should be able to find pictures and read about the designspecs of both suits.. And if you really want to know, demo both and see what suits your flying style? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Seeing how low and close to the terrain many wingsuiters are flying these days, I dont think "When is he going to open" is too strange a question.. I got to see the DVD a while ago in Zell Am See (Julio brought a copy) I was passed impressed..amazing stuff! even more amazing flying.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

landing the wingsuit (not a repost...well kinda)
mccordia replied to pierre3636's topic in Wing Suit Flying
I think any type of drogue/break/parachute used will take it away from a true wingsuit landing.. I too can build a 20 million dollar 1 km long bathtub with airated water, or a complex net/catching system. But a wingsuit and its pilot should be all the tools needed to be allowed to call it "landing a wingsuit" if you ask me... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
Wingsuit Weekend - Zwartberg (Belgium) - 3/4 March
mccordia replied to mccordia's topic in Wing Suit Flying
March 3 and 4 (saterday/sunday) team flylikebrick (costyn, alex and myself) will be at Zwartberg (Belgium) organising a small wingsuit weekend. Saterdaymorning there will be a (free) first jump course and the rest of the day and sunday is for the first flights with 1 on 1 coaching and video debrief (no extra coaching fee, only instructors slot) Some of the other belgian/dutch flockers usualy present at schaffen (nearby dropzone) will also drop by, so next to the FJC and first flyers, there will also be flocking for those who already have their wings.. We already have 3 people lined up for their first flight, and some wingsuit flyers interested in coaching (working on forward speed, backflying etc.). if you want to join in on the fun, send us an email through flylikebrick.com and we'll make it a date! See you there! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -

landing the wingsuit (not a repost...well kinda)
mccordia replied to pierre3636's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Maybe Maria can chime in here, and tell us more about the planning of this milestone in wingsuiting? Is it real planning? Or (looking for) sponsor talk? The flaring of a wingsuit may take out (when timed perfect) most if not all downward speed, but the horizontal speed will still be like being flung of a motorcycle (sliding on your belly) Although Ive personally proven that 120 km/h on asphalt wearing jeans (only jeans on motorcycle=stupid, I know) is survive-able with nothing more then a scrape on my knee and elbow, I still highly doubt the true surviveability of such a wingsuit-landing feat. It would be a matter of luck, moreso then skill imho (ahh..who am I kidding...my oppion is never humble) but IF its true planning, and the person to be attempting this honestly knows (not thinks, but KNOWS) he/she can do itI think its about time someone didnt just talk the talk..but also walked the walk... lots and lots of testpilots wanted I guess.. Right up there with ads such as 'actors wanted for snuff movie, one time performance' JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
Not being a basejumper myself, I do know that I see a huge difference in wingsuiting basejumpers that do lots of skydiving practice and those that dont. Seeing someone buy a top of the line wingsuit, and come down from a 13K jump with 70 seconds of freefall and a distance covered that any AFF student could cover on his first ever tracking is just laughable (and a waste of money on a good wingsuit) freefall skills are freefall skills...and not everyone seems to be getting his/hers from the few terminal basejumps a year they make..
