Should I sue/ What do you think?
jumperconway replied to dubbayab's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
What if you were driving a Ford Explorer a few years ago and the bead on your Firestones broke causing you to roll your vehicle breaking your back. Merrick, I had a Bronco II with Firestones on it and had a tire separate the tread at 85mph and didn't crash even though the Bronco II had a much higher c.o.g. than the Explorer, see I know how to drive and didn't panic. They intensionally blew out tires on the Explorers under all types of circumstances and never flipped a single one, although the tires were defective, it was driver error that rolled the vehicles. -
Heck, smoke a stogie suck down a brewsky and go skydive the same day! I'm not big by any means, 5'9"/160# and I've jumped hours after donating blood the same day, and I smoke. I am physically fit and donate regularly, over 3 gallons so far!

Should I sue/ What do you think?
jumperconway replied to dubbayab's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You have done your fellow skydivers an absolute disservice here! If, as you say you are not going to sue the mystery manufacturer, their is no reason NOT to give US the full story behind this incident! We feel the pain for your wife and may she make a complete and speedy recovery. How will you feel if someone else dies or is permanently paralyzed because you kept the facts to yourself? Proud? If there is a potentially problematic container issue you as a skydiver/instructor OWE it to us to explain the issue at hand. If I see that your container is a total just waiting to happen, it is my DUTY to inform you! If you so decide to jump it anyway, at least you do so willingly and informed. -
HA!! Henceforth you shall be known as.....Quasimodo!! The way the Javelin closes, you can adjust the closing loop and it will handle a lot of differnt sized canopies, I wouldn't try that with my Mirage!

I've only owned 2 containers my entire skydiving career and I've jumped everything from 170 to an 84 in them (not the same container of course). In my old Javelin J1 I put everything from a 170 Silhouette to an 85 Cobalt with no problem. The 85 made me look like the hunchback with the 143R reserve though.

Survivors can now sue (new ruling?)
jumperconway replied to ltdiver's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Since this was an instructional dive, the standards of negligence are a bit different. Just as here, we have different standards for AFF students than for those with their cards. OK, fill me in. He's been diving for 20 years! -

Im not so much about breaking the law.....Ya know if I ever run for President I would hate that "Cubagate" weekend comming back on me. Don't worry Ron, you'd never get elected anyway! -
How much would a jump cost if.......

You know, I have heard of people talking about those things, what exactly is that? >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Over the years I have tried various "real jobs" but none of them really suited me. As near as I can remember, my job in the Canadian Air Force consisted of drinking coffee and doing crossword puzzles while waiting for spare parts for CF-18 fighter planes. I developed a life-long addiction to caffeine. I tried driving a school bus, but the little bastards gave me an ulcer. I tried a bureacratic job and was okay at shuffling paperwork, but was never good enough at kissing a$$ to keep the job. I tried being a security guard, but could not stand the petty nazis I had to work with. The deli was amusing, but I developed an allegry to sausages. After hanging Christmas lights on a few thousand trees, I concluded that it was a job better done by younger men. LMAO -

Have you ever been to a concert or sporting event? Look at the back of the ticket. It states that you proceed at your own risk. It will stop 99% of lawsuits where someone slipped on a spilled beer or a weiner but doesn't prevent a lawsuit because anyone can sue for anything if they have the time. Frivolous lawsuits are commonplace these days and until we as a society accept responsibility for our own actions, this will continue. Personally I feel that the lawyers should have to pay double what they seek as retribution for wasting the other party's time as well as the court's time to deal with the idiocy. That said, you can't waiver negligence. Although I don't see negligence in this case, your "buddy" is not responsible for you, he is a safety precaution for your assistance. If the man died from unnatural causes at the hands of one of the others then their should be charges against them not a lawsuit. -
1730 jumps in 3 1/2 yrs. Nope, I can quit anytime I want!

RWS will revoke your tandem rating if you jump their rig in Tevas! There was a fatality last year, I think, where the drogue bridle got caught in Tevas and ended with a double mal.

Bob, an experienced sky diver, was getting ready for a jump one day when he spotted another man outfitted to jump wearing dark glasses, carrying a white cane and holding a seeing-eye dog by a leash. Shocked that the blind man was also going to jump, Bob struck up a conversation, expressing his admiration for the man's courage. Then, curious, he asked, "How do you know when the ground is getting close?" "Easy," replied the blind man. "The leash goes slack."

CSPA Student training at DZ's under scrutiney?

Sounds strange.... a reserve not coming out of the free bag? quote; We have tried to simulate (on the ground) as many possible reserve baglock scenarios as we can think of with identical student gear, and we could not manage to make the reserve bag stay locked -
So Tim is jumping again? Glad to hear that! Tell him Conway from Spaceland say's hi!

Peas? Pea gravel pit, target. Funnel? Think of skydivers floating in the sink in formation and the drain is opened and they are sucked into the abyss

93 jumps/ 2 yr lay-off jumping Tim's 99FX? WTFO?

After 1 tandem and 4 AFF jumps in 3 months I gave up on skydiving for never being able to get in the air, bad time of year weather wise. Came back about 3 1/2 years ago so nervous that after getting in the plane during the refresher and a weather hold that later in the day when the weather cleared I refused to jump but promised to sleep on it and come back the next day. I was shaking like a leaf on the ride to altitude but kept reminding myself of how good I felt once I left the door. Turned out to be the best exit and jump ever.

What does "biff" really mean?
jumperconway replied to sunsetjim's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
"Butt in front" landing such as the term used for woman with a pooch gut -
A little more info; The Onyx was a 75 and I jumped it without the normal 14# of lead that I wear when jumping my Xaos 27-79 and without a good set up to really fly it hard, it's hard to subjectively compare the two. The pack volume was tiny compared to my 27 cell when I watched Brian pack it.
-
I went from a Crossfire 99(500 jumps/1000 jumps overall) (1.87/1) to a Xaos 21-85 and it was a huge step! I jump at a huge dropzone with wide open outs and survived but wouldn't recommend such a huge drop unless you jump you're ass off and fly it very conservatively! I jump more than 500 jumps a yr. Learn to flat turn it first off. This type of canopy will dive in a turn twice as long as the Xfire! The money you save on this great deal will certainly be paid back in doctor bills if you are not extremely careful!
-
I am not sure about my interparetation of my one jump on the onyx but the opening was awsome although that it was spun up!. The front riser presuure was nothing!!!!!! I wasn't in a situation to really hook it but it was sweet!
