Are you a "goal oriented" skydiver?
jumperconway replied to skybytch's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I see people doing 4 way, and look at myself and say "I want to be there!" but have absolutely no clue how to get there, what I need to learn, and where to start. Tunnelcamp!!!!! -
20WAY Texas Star just add wackers. Nice.

Apparently this is the same failure that caused the death at SDC over the weekend

Waiting to hear my second and third beeps from my pro-track watching jaws drop below me decided to just pitch. 20 second canopy ride with 1 flat 90 degree turn. Still unsure if my Cypres works. Don't depend on gadgets. Use your eyes and your common sense.

Big-way, hard pull, reserve, biplane, tree landing
jumperconway replied to dgrabowski's topic in Safety and Training
Oddly enough, the previous weekend, PD was at the Ranch and I was hoping that they'd have reserves on risers so I could actually fly a 143. Unfortunately, they did not have any. I had the same experience with PD demo day. I had a 143R in my rig and wanted to try one and they didn't bring one either so I jumped the 126R and put a 113R in my next container. I think at the time the 143R was their most popular size so surprised that they had none for demo. -
When does Your Audible first go off on RW jumps
jumperconway replied to j3zz's topic in Safety and Training
4000' and it means; finish the last point! -
How about quality of jumpers/jumps, vibe? Scenery is nice but not nice doing solos. Ammenities-A/C packing! Turbines- fast turbines!

Where's Gemini? HEY Jim Alkek!
-
I can't believe that even though it's at MY home dz AND I've been asked to organize a new DZ. record I'm not even on the list!
-
add lead! It makes arching less important and is easier on the back!

Definately go to AFF NOW! You've already tasted the adrenaline overload, just remember to pull.
-
how did you decide yours?
jumperconway replied to josheezammit's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If there are good belly fliers at your dz, I would recommend at least a few hundred rw jumps to get somewhat proficient at it before freeflying. Typically I believe you should concentrate on one discipline at a time. Most of the jumpers that I know that started freeflying right off student status are really inept on there bellies. -
The "maybe you should try bowling" talk....
jumperconway replied to WrongWay's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
As a fellow student, let me recount the 4 priorities. 1- pull, 2- pull on time, 3- pull stable, 4 - land safely. I think as long as you can do #1 and #4 you'll be welcomed to keep working at it until you can do all the turns, tracks, and flips that the AFF sequence requires. You definitely don't have to get everything right on every jump This is funny to me because as a student many years ago doing 4 AFF jumps over a 4 month period, not because I wasn't there every weekend to jump but because of the lack of instructors that weren't TM also and weather, winds. Altitude awareness is NOT automatic with many newbies. I never was unstable or any other issues just altitude unaware! I was pulled on level 1 the first time @ 4500'. Passed the second time. Pulled on level 2 when I thought the JM was pointing at something in front of me to watch! I was then pulled on my second level 2, not that I was unaware on that one but didn't reach the handle so I dearched to get to it and was pulled as I was pulling it myself! I was so disappointed at failing again that I left the sport for almost 2 years before getting my knees back in the breeze. I never got the bowling is for you(actually am a good bowler!). I was never dangerous. -
Nose Tuck Under on Xaos: Just out of Curiosity?
jumperconway replied to namdrib's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
That's actually how I pack my Sabre2, but I always have nose first inflations. I guess some canopies just react differently to having a "blocked" nose than others. There is a big difference in a Saber2 with open cells versus The closed nose of the Xaos. What I meant was easily duplicated on specifically the Xaos's. -
Nose Tuck Under on Xaos: Just out of Curiosity?
jumperconway replied to namdrib's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Thanks. I've seen one OPEN like this, but not happen in flight. During the swoop tournament at Eugene Skydivers, I was always exiting right after Brian Gile, and saw his Xaos 27 openings (don't know size or WL). It seemed to open "nose last" every time (sat in fortune cookie mode for awhile). This was observed by himself and others, as well. No speculation into what was causing this, nor am I trying to imply that this would happen in flight. --------------- This is easy to duplicate all the time, pulling the slider out in front of the nose and then stuff the nose. Most velocity openings I've witnessed do this regularly. -
Nose Tuck Under on Xaos: Just out of Curiosity?
jumperconway replied to namdrib's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Steve, I've snap hooked 180 or 270 hard on all my Xaos' anywhere from 2.2-2.7ish with ease, no problem. If they were prone to fold, i'd have folded one by now. Even on gusty days. -
Fortunately she jumps at a double Otter DZ! I can help her with the exits!

To answer your question

What kind of plane?
-
What kind of plane? You will be much more ok with this if you go and just watch first not on the day you're jumping.
-
Have many of you suffered through the exit syndrome?? Nope, can't help ya. Nutin but perfect exits forever! j/k Quit trying so hard and just arch into the relative wind whether diving or floating. Pacience is what skydiving is all about. One day it will just happen and you'll be asking yourself, "what did I do right?" Hang in there!

Body position and hard opening
jumperconway replied to darrenspooner's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Roll the outer 4 cells on each side in toward the center and pull the slider out past the center cell a little. Definetly have a rigger check the line specs. I know several people that have had Hornets in the past with very soft openings.
