I cant believe no one has said skydive chicago. After nationals was there, im sure people appreciate the enormity and care taken of the landing area.

I jumped that configuration for about 3 jumps early on. It was not fun to pack, nor did it look pretty when it was packed. To make matters worse, it was a demo.

Your canopy choices and downsize history
hjumper33 replied to frost's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
200 student canopy 1-7ish Sabre2 170/200 1.2 7-26 SabreI 150 1.3 27-200ish Crossfire 139 1.4 200ish-350 ish Crossfire2 129 1.5 350-present various demos mixed in. with a stiletto 120 as a GL canopy and a couple of ACE 260s for night jumps. -
I dont know what I like about this post better. The fact that the original was 3+ years ago, or the fact that Cahill now flies a velo at over 2.3. I want to see him jump a nitro 150 again though!
-
Hey send me the pic. I know you took it down for publication purposes, but Id like to see it. You can contact him on here or on basejumper.com at JammasterJay. Let me guess what the picture is already, some retard with a big shnoz attempting not to take everyone out on a head down jump.

Wingsuits kick ass, and I wouldnt waste time with a tracking suit unless you can find a free demo. Even a classic is way more kick ass. Have someone with 100+ wingsuit jumps evaluate you as a tracker and skydiver, and someone on your dz who really knows you as a skydiver. Then if you still want to bend the rules, go for it. I did my first jump on a classic for my 150th jump, but only because I had a bad ass coach and had been acessed as to my abilities. Im sure one of the many super experienced pilots on here could give you more drills to practice too, like pull technique and packing differences, things like that.

Opinions!!! Please... About Gatorz sunglasses to skydiving
hjumper33 replied to isaac_spain's topic in Gear and Rigging
I wear Gatorz for all forms of skydiving, and I wear contacts. Probably around 200 jumps freeflying with them. Just get a strap, I lost a pair on a headdown jump :( . I have radiators which are probably the mos popular style with blue mirror lenses. -
It was a legal site, and how stealth can you be in a pink suit? Oh, and like I give a shit........ Ed Legal site eh? Im pretty sure I know that view.... Anyway, he does have a giant gay pink V2, so I guess that gives it away anyway.

There are usually a few pilots regularly out there. If I wind up not going to idaho, ill be out there with a couple of other guys.

Difference between Icarus X-fire and x-fire 2
hjumper33 replied to hudsonderek's topic in Gear and Rigging
I had one of the good XF1s that was not affected by the recall, and the riser pressure was fine and the canopy flew great. That being said, I sold it to one of my good friends, who decided to have the canopy relined, and it basically ruined it. Even though it was supposed to not have the line mod done and have the best version available of the lineset, the dive loop actually cut my hand because the riser pressure was so high on a 180. I really love icarus products, and I highly recommend the XF2. -
Haha I like that. Ill say the canopy I DO NOT recommend is a decently loaded katana. That thing puckered me up on the couple of ws jumps I did on it. Nice canopy, but no matter how I packed it, it was consistently inconsistent on opening. Really fun to fly and stayed with a velo in a dive though.
-
Yawn, my WS buddy jumps his velo 96 loaded at 2.3. Actually if I was forced to jump a cross braced canopy with a wingsuit, it would be a xaos. Ive heard of a few people jumping them with wingsuits in the past with decent results.

Is this a video or a tv show, either way I want a copy. Your pass on that trailer is one of the most disgusting things ive ever seen. The fact that the 2 min preview has created this much buzz can only mean good things for the full thing.
-
I love my crossfire 2, incredibly soft openings. Probably not something really to recommend, but find the canopy you like to fly, and kind of figure out if itll work for wingsuiting. I think it was alluded to in another thread that the optimum reserves arent really designed to take a large number of terminal openings, so you might want to consult with PD about that plan, thought it would sound tempting if you were flying a sub 100 square foot canopy and didnt want a second container.

Difference between Icarus X-fire and x-fire 2
hjumper33 replied to hudsonderek's topic in Gear and Rigging
Im sure there are other differences, but that one difference is a pretty big one, even if it is the only one. The riser pressure is much higher on the 1, and if it has the line mod, the riser pressure is much much higher. -
Indeed I was simply answering the original question of how I dealt with not being able to skydive as much due to school obligations. JSE knows that im not as frequent DZer as I once was, and I missed too many jumps at Eds last boogie because of clinic responsibilities. Just sharing the frustration. I would never advocate base jumping to anyone, its a terrible hobby. I never thought id learn so much about moon cycles in med school though That reminds me too you law people, i have a traffic ticket i need to figure out in the next few weeks. There goes more skydiving money.
-
Thats part of what I like about base jumping. Id doesnt cost anything but gas money, I can go at night when I actually might have a little time, and one or two jumps a week is plenty to keep me going. Im sure medical and law school are pretty similar in time commitment, and its tougher and tougher for me to find a whole day to make it worthwhile going to a dz. Sadly, skydiving is falling down my priorities list, and I just hope to keep it on the list for the next few years before work allows me some kind of time off.
-
I agree with monkey. At skydance you can do 18k loads for like $6 added on to a ticket (assuming the min amout of people do it, or there is a tandem). Use that extra money to buy a wingsuit, and you can freefall for 3 min, not have to wear a bailout bottle, and get up at the buttcrack of dawn.

I know skydive midwest near Racine has a sabre2 170 as a student canopy you can demo. Also I believe that sky knights has a pretty broad selection of canopy sizes.

$65 I think I heard? There is a guy doing them up here in norcal for $60, if only they didnt get winded out every time.

How many jumps did you get in this weekend?
hjumper33 replied to andm31's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
11. 7 skydives, 4 base. -
I went up to tahoe with Kevin last winter, had been on skis 3 times, all in the midwest. Its doable, but I think he wants to take people who are experienced GLers, experienced skiers, or preferably both. On things for sure, its ridiculous amounts of fun. *edit* http://youtube.com/watch?v=fCaaFTIq8tk The video isnt that great, but there are some cool shots in the second half. Should give anyone interested any idea of some beginner runs at the beginning, and some more advanced stuff at the end.

Photo printer question - Best bang for the buck?
hjumper33 replied to Dumpster's topic in Photography and Video
Ive printed a few 8x10s at walgreens and been really happy with the results. If I am doing a lot of editing to a photo, ill print out a few different 4x6 prints to check quality of color and resolution, for $0.19 I can afford some practice. After owning a photo printer and going through a ton of money in start up costs, ink, and photo paper, I realized I could have printed out 50x more photos for way less cost. I suppose it depends what you want, and what kind of quality you need. 10.1 MP full resolution looks damn good on an 8x10 for $2.99. Im sure there are people that turn out AMAZING prints on their photo printers, just ask yourself if you have the time, ability, and money to do that, I personally did not. -

hjumper33 replied to bodypilot1's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Hopefully the weather will be alright tomorrow afternoon so we can get some early flocking in. Ive had about enough school for one week already. Tony ill be looking forward to some non skydiving activities as well. Look forward to seeing everyone soon. -
Stroboframe was exactly what I was looking for. Someone had told me the name before, and it had totally slipped my mind. Nice link for the plate only too, im going to be switching out a couple of cameras and was looking for another plate.
