  1. If it is a planned flyby to the extent that its the only thing im doing on the jump, I usually do a wide circle around the tandem until I see canopy. It then takes about 30 seconds to actually get down to them. I dont really have a good reason, but I always come from behind on the right. I usually err on the side of being too high, then flatten it out to a nice glide as I near the tandem. Flying close to a cliff is good practice. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKkQXcKmJbQ edit before chuck yells at me: This is much closer than a typical flyby and was done with one of my best buddies as the tandem master and my girlfriend as the passenger. Probably my 50th or so flyby. Not condoning, but I felt confident doing it, as did everyone involved.
  2. backfly, cock one arm wing up, the other down behind you, and extend your leg wing maximally to tip head down a little. That usually works for about 2 rotations a second for me.
  3. I dont think the jumper in questions ever posts on here so ill ask him. At the time, i dont think he felt like he was in danger of hitting the canopy. The most dangerous part of the filming was probably when buster almost landed on a house in the first drop attempt!
  4. Hey as long as those rules dont apply before someone can do their first wingsuit base jump it sounds good to me!
  5. Will I have to pay for a new license, (im fine with my A), pay for a coaches rating, pay to get wingsuit rated, and then pay to renew them evey year, all to do things the exact same way i do already?
  6. ... but to give due respect, not nearly as vain as Ed. Looking at more pics from this weekend, I still stand by my flying loaf of bread statement.
  7. I personally fly phoenix fly products, but have a great amount of respect for tony suit products, but every time I see a t-bird or x-bird, I cant help but think it looks like a flying loaf of bread. Aesthetically, this suit does nothing for me at all, and Im a vain bastard, so that matters.
  8. Anyone using the tracking derby stuff on a mac? They seem to have plenty of versions, all of which fail to open on my computer.
  9. Move to Lodi for the summer. Tell Bill you want to become a skydiver and youll do anything. Within 6 months youll be a tandem master and have more than enough jumps to wingsuit, but youll be in Bill's pocket, which is not a good place to be. Seriously though, cheap static line course, $13 jumps every day, and some of the best wingsuit pilots in the country to learn from.
  10. Haha that is fantastic. Scott needs to take a plf lesson
  11. Because theyve been around a lot longer. Like 2 months ago everyone was getting rid of their original mach1s on there. I do love the tonysuits, just answering the question with the obvious. The advent of the V3 has caused a purging of V2s as well.
  12. Ill be there from the 16th to 30th of this month. Very excited, but take the second step of my medical boards literally the day before I leave, so not much planning time left. I want to make some bad ass wingsuit videos with data overlaid like ive seen on here!
  13. So what have you guys been doing all weekend? I must admit looking out at the weather has made me feel a little better about being stuck inside studying for two weeks.
  14. Im finding my new wintec 201s manual a little confusing, and with studying for my board exams until i leave for switzerland, I dont have a lot of time to figure it out. What combination of buttons do i need to press, and what lights going on actually mean im tracking a flight? Do you discontinue the track by turning it off after a flight? What software do you recommend for a mac if anything?
  15. That is bad ass. Thats pretty much exactly what I want software to do. Does it work with both wintec gps and foretrex equally well.
  16. I always wonder if there was another arbitrary number set, if people would quote that as well. If the USPA said 100 jumps before wingsuit, would 150 jump wonders then have enough and be left alone? When reserve repacks went up to 6 months, was it because the became safer, or when D licenses went from 200 to 500, were they then worse at 201 than someone with 250 and a D? It all, once again, comes down to comfort, ability, and experience. Should someone go flock, backfly, and induce flat spins at 180 jumps, probably not. Can they fly a wingsuit and not kill themselves? If they are going to try it, id sure as hell hope so.
  17. Hes damn current though. Keep flying and using some common sense and youll be awesome.
  18. Anyone having anything else good to say about the foretrex 201? Im thinking about picking one up soon.
  19. Ill be heading to the valley in a month. If tony sends me a demo id be more than happy to bring it along with me and try it out in the base environment. Tony, you out there? 6'1 black and green.
  20. Ill loan you an s1 for the weekend. Come back to lodi and we will do some big A loads like the old days. I miss you tony!
  21. I agree. I put my first 100 wingsuit jumps on one, and loved it. I would put it in the same performance range as the original phantom. I did my first few wingsuit base jumps on it, as well as doing quite a bit of flocking, and found it to perform very well.
  22. Make sure to always listen to the people who will go out of their way to give advice at all costs, will never ever be wrong (or at least will never admit they are) and love to be the ones who are the head of the group. These can be found easily by looking at the number of posts next to their names.
  23. I put about 100 ws jumps on a crossfire 129. It was an awesome swooping canopy, and sniveled like crazy, but would spin up every once in a while, and almost never open on heading. Sabre 1 120 that I got with 150 jumps and brand new lines cost me $400 and opens on heading every time, and allows me to take my wingsuit to 3k and a little below with no worries of line twists, or winding up in the saddle at 1200 ft. On heading, quick, but not too quick opening, and still can swoop it when I want. Thats what I want in a canopy.
  24. Do you guys have an official stance on base jumping the SM1? I know PF has come out and said things to the effect of its not a very good idea to base jump the stealth. From my experience on the SMI, its a bad ass skydiving wingsuit, but I dont think I would ever base jump it.
  25. Those werent low pulls at all. If you have line twists, can kick out of them, and still have time before landing, you didnt pull low.
