VFW members duct tape flag burner to flag pole

The mention of the free market was anecdotally related to the benign nature of who is currently knocking on our doors....you fear a lynch mob society brewing- that does not make for a relaxing day for most people. You are arguing with a man who is large enough that he prolly has not gotten his ass kicked nor threatened nor out numbered by a group of other people recently so he doesn't see the need for police assistance at the moment. You are not going to win this one with him. I am on your side of the issue but you are endangering yourself of ambling down a road of paranoia and unmitigated lunacy if you continue because the event was in the grey zone of legality here and there are no provable definitive answers in the grey zone. We just have to keep an eye on situations like this as they have proven to have the potential for escalation but in this case it is not even on the screen anymore, and I live here so I know. I have to go hunt for dinner now, over. Beware of the collateralizing and monetization of your desires. D S #3.1415 -

relax man I live nearby.....the all clear horn has sounded on this one, the only brown shirts that are going to knock on our door are the UPS dudes...they're cool and they bring boxes of excellent free market produced goods. >And come on, you know as well as I do drama isn't size limited. meh you seem to crate a lot of drama regarding size and sex, why? its whatever shape is a turn on that works for people.Have you ever had sex with a plus sized woman? I have to say for most dudes it's the best sex ever, but they are so insecure that no one wants to admit that- I'm sorry but that's fucked up. By constantly projecting these artificial standards people are just making the problem worse. The godforsaken plastic surgery industry is fueled by this crap. Same goes for women- I am always curious why they have to have a guy taller than them, insecurity once more- reject the blasted norm and try to be with who ever you have chemistry with. No wonder people need so much viagra and diet pills, hair replacement, tummy tucks, boob jobs.... and shrinks. Fucking dose the entire water supply while we're at it with Cialis, methamphetamine, Rogaine, human growth hormone, and Oil of Olay(whatever the fuck that is)-then we can all go to Lollapalooza and be in the freak show. A man was riding his Harley along a California beach when suddenly the sky clouded above his head... In a booming voice, the Lord said, "Because you have tried to be faithful to me in all ways, I will grant you one wish." The biker pulled over and said, "Build a bridge to Hawaii so I can ride over anytime I want." The Lord said, "Your request is materialistic. Think of the enormous challenges for that kind of undertaking; the supports required to reach the bottom of the Pacific and the concrete and steel it would take! I can do it, but it is hard for me to justify your desire for worldly things. Take a little more time and think of something that could possibly help mankind." The biker thought about it for a long time.... Finally, he said, "Lord, I wish that I, and all men, could understand our wives; I want to know how she feels inside, what she's thinking, why she cries, what she means when she says nothing's wrong, and how I can make a woman truly happy." The Lord replied, "You want two lanes or four on that bridge?" Beware of the collateralizing and monetization of your desires. D S #3.1415

>The end Yep, I live 45 min away- none of this incident escalated into widespread patriotic scrutiny, which I think most of the dissenters of the event really are concerned about at the core. There are always going to be strong patriots and those opposed. Nationalism is still a choice and not a mandate. Life goes on, keep up the good work everyone- peace out. Beware of the collateralizing and monetization of your desires. D S #3.1415 -

Thank you, i see your point about this particular commander,i am just sensitive to any publicized events like this. Personally, I resent patriotism being crammed down my throat and being called a pinko or a commie in general just because I have differing views. I think actions like the one the commander took no matter his intentions drives dissenters away from any national pride, patriotism, or feeling of security here. As we saw in Nazi Germany seemingly innocuous public actions like this can lead down the highway to a military industrial utopia of a complete nationalistic martial lock down with a welcome mat for dissenters in front of a prison cell followed by an execution. I really don't want to be one day hastily driven into the hills by my countrymen while clutching my semi auto weapon with a backpack full of ammo and survival gear just because I refuse to salute or wear an arm band. thanks again, it is important that people share reality checks in these tough and uncertain times, they are appreciated and necessary for everyone -

Well you are correct in that I am trying to widen the scale of the incident and draw attention to a larger national level of conduct, with regard to free speech, the concept of patriotism, and the motivations to send troops into battle. To me all of these concepts are intricately related and you are correct that I am trying to draw you and others into a broader discussion . I think it has value to get to the fundamental psychology behind why military personnel think the way they do and expect citizens to think the same way. I see a direct connection between this microcosm event and global events. As for debate tactics I am not interested in a convoluted pissing contest or winning an argument with you,and you don't need to use this opportunity to make fun of Bill or Tom for my sake. I see you as an intelligent conduit to helping my understanding of why the symbol of a flag has to be so revered that examples must be made of people who do not show ultimate worship of it. To me there is a real socio-political danger in that. Yes I know what this guy did was wanton destruction of property. I am more interested in the associated symbolism. We may be on the same page on a few points here but reading your body of work over the years I think we differ on the patriotism subject. I am asking you or anybody else to help me understand this concept and in some way I am hoping you will. You have helped me understand that the actions of the arson were not philosophically motivated , it was just an impulsive idiotic taunting action... I now agree. Now I want to understand why the Vet needed to make an example of the man, a civilian as far as I know, by tying him to an iconic symbol for public ridicule, effectively turning a disciplinary action into an opportunity to publicize whatever cause the VFW commander is trying to advertise, which in my view is patriotism itself- and how his actions achieve that goal. We are headed into a period where we as a society have to make a choice, become more pro military and patriotic to survive by control and conquest of global resources, or seek more diplomatic and scientific alternative resolutions. Either way you have to win hearts and minds of the public.....this is a good place to have that discussion. It may be tangental but I think if we crack this code it can lead to a better understanding of our future as a species. Beware of the collateralizing and monetization of your desires. D S #3.1415 -

>are all abuses of reasonable discuss and healthy speech I agree I was invited to protest on a few occasions and I refused for those reasons, however protest does serve a purpose. It publicizes dissent. Dissent is good especially considering what government leaders have been historically capable of without the bother of public outcry. I feel for the warriors who fight for an ideology and the symbols like the flag because there is probably no greater horror than to realize that your life may be wasted on a battle field for no good reason. So it is imperative for ones own sanity to get ultimate support by the citizens for your sacrifice and also for your burned and dismembered comrades- because the horrible alternative is that you were used as the ultimate tool and fool for the agenda of some Govt. officials who enjoyed safety with their family in their own country while you were out there in a muddy piss filled ditch getting your shit all shot up. that my friend is the value of the protest and the protester- to shine light on the abuses of power. >the is no underlying ideological motives - that's just the excuse asswipes like this use after the fact. hmmm, how do you know? I'm not so sure that you are not taking this particular act personally by making such a broad accusatory statement- now would you be reacting like this if he actually keyed a car instead....I think the symbolism has significance, if not for the perp himself then the VFW certainly raised an issue about the US flag and free speech unwittingly by duct taping a person to it...because despite their disciplinary intentions- they used poor judgement in their action because the free speech issue can't get any more iconically symbolic in a negative way than tying a person to a flag pole with a sign on their chest. come on man...I know you're smarter than this- sell it to me. edit;spelling Beware of the collateralizing and monetization of your desires. >I suspect the 'message' is as follows..... This happened practically in my back yard, I will keep tabs on it but I would like to hear an interview of the perp himself. Alcohol has a way of putting peoples inhibitions into action to resolve hidden gripes. I would be interested to know if there were any underlying ideological motives he may have had and why he chose such strong symbolism, but you may be right it could have been %100 poor judgement and impulsiveness on his part. Here's the rub I think I face a lot of what I consider to be overzealous nationalism in my town. People who hold the "stand with us or stand against us mentality". Now I grew up with a father who spent 2 years in a Nazi prison camp as an allied POW, he got to observe some of his captors society first hand and noticed how a citizenry can be coerced into following the edict of a military regime. We saw the results of the ensuing atrocities.....not judging the people, but always telling me to be on guard for nationalistic mob mentality, it is very insidious ....it starts with National pride, which is fine but that can lead to an almost worship level of patriotic adoration, especially when people have sacrificed their lives in the process of defending "the cause". This leads to a process of singling non supporters out and publicly making an example of them, He always told me, if you don't think it can happen here, ask any German citizen of the time how easy it was to go there. Certainly I am not condoning the crime this guy committed, but by allowing himself to being taped to a flag pole he actually did his cause more justice and the VFW unwittingly supported his protest methodology. I get accused of not being patriotic all the time because even though I registered, I never served, don't have a flag outside my house (all my neighbors do) and I hold some socially liberal ideals. My answer is that I have enough people to fight in my own back yard who are much more of a direct threat to my intrinsic rights, survival and well being. >Arm yourself because no one else here will save you I hear ya. edit;grammar Beware of the collateralizing and monetization of your desires. I think she was hesitant to tell me cuz I advised against her trading in her other car as she was all paid up on that suckah.... Beware of the collateralizing and monetization of your desires.
