  1. I was told my first one would be a 20 sec. delay. YIKES! I'm going to go out on a limb and BEG Jeff (one of the JMs) to jump with me. I think I would feel better if someone were at least out there with me. I am getting really excited about the whole thing though. 2. CONGRATULATIONS and welcome to this crazy sport! I'm now about to do my sixth static line. I get from your post that you are doing AFF. Best of luck, you are NOT going to regret it...and I don't believe any of us will get sick of hearing about skydiving! 3. Thank you so much! I plan to go out there and KICK BUTT! So, when it was all said and done, did you have a lot of FUN! That's what I'm hoping for
  4. Don't know them but did they get married? If so, my congrats
  5. I am replying to the original post, just so noone gets confused! First of all, man I'm so far away from where I want to be! All of you make that look so easy. Please tell me, once you do your first freefall, is it all FUN from there? I want to do that so bad one day! YOU GUYS LOOK GREAT! 6. Yes, it is hard to forget the AFF jump, but I will keep trying. I can't imagine freefall being that hard really, and if I screw up again, all I have to do is pull. Anyway, I won't have any instructors with me when I do the freefall, maybe that's what's making me nervous. It really helps knowing it is normal to have the anxieties. I remember the first SL I did and hearing Jeff tell me to climb out and hang. My first thought was "NO WAY!" I'm glad I didn't listen. I will imagine myself out there having a blast and keep talling myself I WILL KICK BUTT! Thanks for your thoughts and advice. 7. Well, great job! I'm doing the "dope rope" as well and will be doing freefall soon. How was it? Just wondering, when you did your "dummy ripcord pulls", did they have you turn your head when you reached? They had me do that once and it screwed up my arch, putting my canopy into line twists. The 2nd time I tried it I just looked up at the plane and everything was fine. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  8. Great job! I'm so excited for you. I'll be out there on the 22 and I'll cheer you on for level 8! Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  9. I'm pretty close to doing my first freefall and I'm half excited/half scared to death. After 5 SL jumps, I'm getting pretty confident about flying the canopy and landing. So far I've landed on the concrete runway (first stand-up landing), gotten out of line twists and did one without a radio. One of the instructors told me freefalling is not only the fun part, but it's the easy part. They said flying the canopy and landing is actually the hard part. It makes sense to me. Having heard and understood that, I can't figure out why I'm still phobic about freefalling! I really want to enjoy the whole experience. What do you all think? 11. Man! There must be a bug going around or something. How strange that you just replied to my thread about us moving out there and now here you go! I guess I'll see you out at SSM. Best of luck to you. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  12. Wow! I really hadn't thought about making money doing it. I only got into it because my oldest son has a deaf friend so we decided to make sign language a part of our homeschooling, but I did fall in love with it. My three year old knows a lot of signs too. I'm sure I would need a lot more training and practice before I could get a job doing it, but since I'm a woman I imagine getting financial aid would not be difficult. There is a university in San Marcos. Thanks a bunch for the idea. When I'm done with my skydiving training and we get settled, I want to look into that. 13. ***I hope there is a whole lot of equity in it so you can put a pile of cash on the new one. __________________________________________________ We have almost six years worth, and our taxes have gone up so much in that time that it is appraised at much higher than we paid for it. We are not going through a realtor so will be able to make quite a profit I'm sure. I am not looking forward to the nightmare of selling a house all by myself. My husband picked it out and bought it all by himself so I guess it's my turn. Oh, and he'll be staying with his mother-in-law until the house sells so I guess I have the better deal! Just kidding, my mom is great! Thanks for all the good vibes. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  14. We are not going to use a realtor this time. We are selling the house on our own (not looking forward to that) and are not planning on buiyng when we move out there. We are going to save for a few years. I know rent is not cheap but owning a home has been a real nightmare for us! I don't care where we live, I just can't wait to hang out and jump at SSM! 15. I will be moving to that area soon. Do you know if they are going to teach SL? Their set-up sounds a lot like the one in Beaumont where I jump now and I was just wondering if I could possibly continue my training there. 16. We're on the way to raising a bunch of wimps... *** -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Man you are so right! Just when I think it can't get any more ridiculous, I see something like this. Some schools around here have eliminated recess altogether, but I think it might be to allow more time for the lovely standardized tests (don't get me started on those ). I really can't complain about any of this because I am fortunate enough to be able to homeschool (and hopefully not raise a wimp!) 17. Wow! I just got some incredible news today! My husband's company offered him a transfer to the Austin/San Antonio area and we decided to go for it. We lived in New Braunfels for the first five years of our marriage and have been in the Houston area for almost six years. So we've been away long enough to truly appreciate it! (fellow Houstonians, please don't take offense; the scenery difference is startling) Oh and one more important bonus, my Mom lives in the area
  18. Baths definately. I would rather sit and relax instead of stand up the whole time. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  19. My non-jumping best friend and I have combined our interests. She's way into scrapbooking, so is in the process of creating a skydiving scrapbook for me. She asks me to save as much stuff as I can to put in the book. I'm not sure which one of us has the greater addiction! 20. Skydiving made fun and easy by Tom Buchanan Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  21. Jeff Paricio is the only camera guy I know of. Mike, Rock and Jo have been out there awhile too I think. Jeff is so awesome. He's been my instructor on all my jumps so far and I just love him. Hope they won't call it quits. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  22. I'm still in SA area but my husband headed back to Baytown area today. He just called me and said he saw my dz on the news and it's basically destroyed. I jump at a small skydiving club in Beaumont(ground rush). It's actually at the airport. What a bummer! I am VERY glad I'm posting about my dz and not my house though. Just wondering if anyone can comfirm this or has heard anything similar. I don't think anyone else from this dz posts here but I could be wrong. Hey, maybe I'll be joining some of you at Spaceland or Waller. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  23. Reporting in from Boerne (near San Antonio) I'm from Baytown and thanking God right now that it wasn't as bad as originally expected. My boys (plus cat, a dachshund and her two puppies) left Wednesday evening. What is a 4 hour trip turned into a 12 hour one. Would have been longer had I not left I-10 in Columbus (@ 2 am) and taken the back roads to Boerne. I was lucky enough to stop at a gas station in Columbus that still had fuel. I've never in my life driven all night, literally. Just glad our car had no trouble and the kids slept most of the way. Hope everyone else is okay as well. God Bless. 24. HUGE sigh of relief! I'm so glad it wasn't as bad as we thought it would be. The armadillos and raccoons okay as well? Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  25. ***I'm not linz, but I'll answer this one _____________________________________________________________________ Man, this hurricane evacuation has gone to my head! Your answer certainly helps. Now that my jumps have been put on hold for a little while, I can put some more thought into it; after the hurricane that is!
