Yet another reason that I am REJOICING that my husband and I decided to HOMESCHOOL! Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28

***Show me one person over 120 years old who refused *to die* and I'll be impressed. __________________________________________________ That's pretty funny! That is not the only reference, just one of a few I could have posted. I don't see anything that forbids goverments from carrying out the death penalty in the bible though, but I do not claim to know it all, that's for sure. ***The Bible (New Testament) doubtless is against the death penalty. __________________________________________________ "For if I be an offender, or have committed any thing worthy of death, I refuse not to die:..." Acts 25:11 Also Romans 13 verses 1-5. Not trying to turn this over to SC or anything...just thought this might shed a little different light on it. OOPS! How did you pay for your skydiving training?
skydivermom replied to skydivermom's topic in The Bonfire
***Just a note, no matter if you do SL or AFF, or IAF for that matter, you are still a student until at least 25 jumps (that is the minimum if you have met all the other requirements for the A license by 25 jumps). __________________________________________________ I don't mean to hi-jack my own thread, but I really hope you can clear some things up for me. My small dz has it in writing that when you complete the 12 jump SL course, you are off student status even though you still have at least 13 jumps to earn an A license. Also, my jumps will go from $100 to $20 (and gear rental of course). It doesn't matter to me whether or not I'm still considered a student, it will just be nice to not have to pay so much for each jump. Personally, I find it easier to arch from the hanging position on the strut. I jump from a 182. I have not done freefall yet, but my JM tells me I have a perfect arch so far. Yes I am still a little nervous about doing the freefall part, plus all the turns and such, but I actually think I was nervous on the AFF jump in part BECAUSE of the two instructors holding onto me. Please offer me any opinions and advice you have. I would greatly appreciate it. You can even PM me if you want to. ***Ireland Oh, and I did SL. Not that expensive, just slooow. The expensive part was my rig. I suppose my GF is going to forgive me eventually (paid that out of an inheritance) __________________________________________________ I probably can't make that boogie How did you like SL? I love it so far. Yes it is cheaper, but at my dz I will be off student status after 12 jumps (if all goes well). At the other 3 dz's around here that do AFF, it's like 14 or more jumps before you are off student status. I also love the gradual nature of SL because I had a very frightening AFF jump Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28 -

Just curious how all of you have funded your training in this awesome sport. I'm sure there are some creative and interesting stories. I am a homeschooling mother of two so I HAD to get creative. I babysit a darling 9 month old from about 7:15AM to 4:30 (at the latest). I have two after school kids (which I pick up) from 3 to 5. Then 3 evenings a week I pick up a 3 year old from day care at around 5:30 and he stays until 7. I am completely exhausted and some of you may think I'm crazy, but it all becomes worth it when I'm flying that canopy! I must REALLY be addicted. My sister was visiting from California (around my birthday)and she was going to get me a massage for my birthday. Somehow we got to talking about phobias and about how mine is claustrophobia. She asked me if I was afraid of heights and I thought for a moment before responding "no, not really." She asked me about roller coasters and rock climbing and then skydiving. I heard a voice say "I would love to skydive!" It took me a moment before I realized it was my voice!! So then she asks me "why don't I take you skydiving for your birthday instead of getting the massage?" The next thing I knew we were both getting on a plane with our instructors! After that tandem I was never the same. Watched my video over and over, had countless skydiving dreams, and then decided that tendem would not be my last. I just did jump #7 the other day and I'm so glad I have continued with this. It has changed my life. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28 -

It really upsets me to have to admit I am not surprised by this. Children seem to be more of an imposition and inconvenience these days and it certainly shows when people do stuff like this. What I don't understand is why don't more folks realize that someday these "inconveniences" might be taking care of us! Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28 -
God Bless your wife! I feel for teachers these days. I know a handful in my hometown and they are certainly not in it for the money (or the appreciation from a lot of parents). I even babysit for a school teacher and she often tells me to keep on homeschooling! You are also right on about a lot of parents....and I'm sure that is one main reason why the schools are stepping over into areas that really involved parents would consider none of their business. I hope your wife still teaches because we need ones like her! Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28

I've been homeschooling my son since day 1. He's in second grade now. Every time I hear something like this I am even more glad we decided to homeschool. I am very territorial with my boys and I'm pretty sure I would not tolerate something like this. I understand what some of you are saying about parents who don't care about their kids and probably welcome all the intrusion from the government because that means it's one less thing they have to worry about. I've met parents like this and it's sad. I would never have submitted to such a test when I was in school. Of course I wasn't/am not overweight but I definately would have considered this to be NONE of their business. I think that's one of the problems these days. Some public schools want to get into areas that are really not supposed to be in their jurisdiction, but we don't see a majority of the parents standing up and telling them so. Whoever came up with this idea is probably very well-meaning, but there is nothing wrong with simply saying "no thank you, this is MY responsibility." What's sad IMO is that (at least in Texas) there are so many other more important areas that desperately need attention and yet they are spending time on problems that are clearly at home issues. Just because some parents aren't doing a perfect job at home(I guess none of us are), it doesn't automatically make it a government problem! LOVE IT! It's so cool to climb out of that Cessna and just hang. It's kinda old schoolish and they teach with Static Line, but I just had my best skydive ever (out of only 7)last Sunday! Oh, and I showed up the Saturday before and it started storming I spent the next several hours watching and learning how to pack! It was great. My 6 Year Old made took her first Freefall!
skydivermom replied to catfishhunter's topic in The Bonfire
I rode one of those at Schlitterbahn on Labor Day. I was wearing one of my skydiving shirts and this man approached me and asked me if I would ride it with his two nephews. (they were from New Orleans and were staying with him). They wanted to ride it but were kind of spooked and i guess he figured I would not be scared. It was really fun to be able to fall like that and not have to worry about doing anything! Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28 -
You may not think you have a grip on life, but you sure are funny! I hope that if you do decide to watch Dr. Phil you can find something of value to you. He can be pretty funny as well; and his jokes are usually at his own expense, like about baldness or something! Cracks me up. LOL I didn't think I would ever see a post like this. I lost one of my shoes during my very first(I've already bought root beer) AFF jump! It was kinda interesting to do my very first solo landing with just one shoe. I kept the other one and decorated it. My son and I got the markers out and had a blast! Some of the things I wrote on it were "lost my buddy during freefall" and "I made it back to the dropzone". Probably sounds kind of corny but I'll always look at that shoe and laugh! Alcohol destroys families and drunk people suck

My dad was an alcoholic. We watched him die a horrible death from liver failure. I personally am amazed he lived as long as he did. He never caused an accident, but he sure caused plenty of pain that I have only just begun to deal with. Talk about an effective sobriety program!
