Tandem. Best birthday present I've ever gotten. It came from my sister who makes awesome money and has no children. She also jumped with me and I'll never forget that day. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28

__________________________________________________ Mockingbird, Well, we as Christians have sort of a disadvantage in that we have something to base our beliefs on besides our own wisdom. The Bible I think provides a way to get "digs" in without actually attacking the person. Most non-believers are guided by their own personal wisdom as opposed to something written down and if we were to attack that we would be breaking the rules. BTW, I am not saying that you non-believers don't read and study books and are not intelligent so please don't read that into this. I do respect your opinions and views. My kids are well taken care of thank you very much! You don't know what I do or don't understand or what I have or haven't been through. Yes I am new to this sport but does that mean my family can't enjoy what I'm doing as well? I wasn't trying to force my ideas or opinions on anyone...but just merely stating what skydiving means to me and my family. My husband almost became a police officer several years ago and yes I thought about the possibilities, but I knew we couldn't live our lives in fear. I just wish you all would try and get to know me first and get all the facts before you come at me with both barrells. How would you feel if I did that to you? First of all, what did I ever do to you? I thought I was just posting my sympathies and expressing what skydiving means to ME AND MY FAMILY. No, I don't mind being critisized when the person doing the critisizing has some knowledge base for it. It bothers me when people try to counsel me and know zero about me or my situation. Especially when I wasn't asking for advice. Now, I do realize that you don't have to ask for it to get it. Something that concerns me is the quick assumptions you made that I am neglecting my kids to skydive. If you had some firsthand knowledge to back this up (like my boys had shoes that were too small and not enough to eat and I was jumping) then I could understand and even accept that. What you don't know is that I only jump once a month and that I have been a stay-at-home mom from day one. Oh, and by the way, I also homeschool. We are very involved in a homeschool group and my son does martial arts and loves it. There has never been a time when we've missed any of his activities because of my skydiving. Still think it's all about me? Yes, I'm skydiving for me, I never said I wasn't. But just because we do something just for us doesn't mean people closest to us don't get something out of it as well. If you don't believe me just ask any counselor or psychiatrist. Also, I feel great when skydiving whether anyone is there to watch me or not. I don't depend on my children to boost anything. Why are you preaching to me about being an involved parent when you have no clue what I do with my children? How would you feel if I posted attacks on your parenting skills without knowing anything about you? I know some parents who skydive and they have gone into debt to do it and are out there every weekend jumping! Should I give you their information so you can slam them? You are telling me to grow up?! Most grownups I know try to get the facts first before making these kind of broad assumptions. And you don't get to decide if a dropzone is the place for my kids or not. If everyone felt that way I don't think Skydive Spaceland would have a playground and swimming pond for the children. I don't know what your problem is, but I do know it's YOUR problem. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28

Yes, you were wonderful. What those sharks don't know is that I'm tough and don't taste so good! No, really, it was not a bad experience, just not the place for me. I'm too nice. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28

__________________________________________________ First of all, do you even have a family? When one member is happy and fullfilled, the rest of the family DOES BENEFIT!...and second of all, you really should not make statements like that about someone when you don't at all know them or their situation. You have no idea what myself or my family have been through, and I'm not sure if you know what it's like to be a parent. It's a very wonderful but very taxing job. I have been through major depression and all kinds of issues that my children and husband have had to watch me go through and have only recently come to terms with it. Since I've discovered skydiving, I am a much more confident and happier person. You will never know what it is like to watch my boys run out to me and hug me after I land. They get almost as much out of it as I do. Since I am giving to myself now, I have much more to give to them so please don't tell me they don't get any benefits from it and if you got out of my post that I was downplaying the dangers then you read something of your own into it. I did a lot of research before I decided to take up this sport. I also did a lot of research on immunizations and there are some major risks in that as well. Again, my point is that sometimes the benefits are worth the risks. Nothing at all bogus about that. It is really insulting that you think I'm deluding myself. You don't have any idea what my skydiving is or isn't doing for my family! I am modeling living life for my children and teaching them that if you love something enough you should go do it! My husband says I'm a different person in so many ways since I've started skydiving. "The only benefit it provides is that it makes you feel happy.." Again, how do you know this is the only benefit? You do not know anything about me and to my knowledge you've never asked my family how this benefits them. Also, I never compared skydiving to immunizations, it was the benefit/risk thing I was using as the comparison. Did you completely miss the point? I really hope you think next time before you make assumptions and judgments about people you know nothing about. ------------------------------------------------------------ Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28

I'm scared of the PLF technique becuase both times I've attempted it I've sprained an ankle. The last time I came in for a landing (made a low turn, landed downwind) I was afraid of spraining an ankle or worse so I put my feet out in front of me and slid. I was not hurt and actually did a great landing (according to my instructor). Of course he wasn't happy about the low turn. I just want to get past this fear before I really NEED to do a PLF. And yes I know ...DO NOT TURN LOW! I won't. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28

Send Phil and Brent from Tulsa OK after him. Have you ever heard of RD Mercer? He has some CD's of pranks that will have you rolling on the ground. He would get this guy but good! Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28

How sobering. I am a student and I have two little boys. 3 and 7. They love watching me jump but I can't even imagine if they witnessed a horror like that! I guess to me the benefits that this sport provides for my family and myself far outweigh the risks involved. I had to think the same way when I decided if I would let my boys have immunizations. There are terrible risks associated with those, but there can also be wonderful benefits. That is so tragic though. I will certainly be praying for all involved. As far as continuing with the skydiving sport, that is certainly a very, very individual and personal decision. So sorry you had to witness that. God Bless that sweet little girl! I don't know. I made the mistake myself of posting there a few weeks ago. It can be very informative and entertaining, but I'm not cut out for it that's for sure. Much too sensitive and thinned skinned I am. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28

After doing my first tandem and becoming addicted, I found the San Marcos DZ website to get info. on lessons and found dz.com. It's too much fun! Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28

I did my first 4 jumps (includes 3 tandems) from an otter then switched to SL at a different dz. It is more unnerving to hang from a Cessna, but I found for me it seems easier to get into the arch position from a Cessna. The scariest part for me is when the instructor says "climb out and hang". I'm always worried I'm going to lose my grip before he tells me to go. It is fun though once you let go! Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28

I am certainly no doctor but I can tell you antibiotics generally cause more problems then they solve. I, too, had bronchitis about a month ago and tried the antibiotics. Didn't do a thing. I now take something called Airborne every time I feel any kind of sinus or allergy problems coming on. It does a great job without all the side affects. Also, I'm doing a Candida cleanse right now. Candida builds up in your body when you take antibiotics and it stays in your system, causing all kinds of problems. After three days of doing the cleanse, my allergy symptoms have almost vanished! I encourage you to do your own research on the subject and ask a healthcare professional that specializes in this kind of stuff. I'm certainly not telling you to go against your doctor. Some people do better with antibiotics than others. I just wanted to offer you an alternative. Good luck and I hope you feel better. Hey, Well, allow me to introduce myself. I'm Kathleen Mayfield from Baytown, TX. Not sure where in Texas you are from but I do SL in Beaumont and sometimes jump in San Marcos. I'm very new to the sport and am having a great time. Now you know who I am. Maybe we can jump together someday. Blue Skies! Bryan, I'm sorry about your bad experiences. You are a great guy and I think you deserve to be happy. I know you don't remember me, but you played with my little boy (3 years old) back in April when I did my first tandem. I could tell you were great with kids and had a soft heart. I guess my husband and I are just very blessed because we've been married 10 years and neither one of us would ever change a thing! Although I make extra money to pay for my skydiving, he completely supports me every other way. I would never dream of betraying that wonderful man! Just wanted to tell you don't give up on us, there are still some great gals out there and I hope you find one! Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
