  1. My sister is a marathon runner and for a long time I just didn't get it. Until I became a skydiver freak and realized she feels the same way about running! She wears a runner charm around her neck and I wear a skydiver charm around mine
  2. Thanks so so much! I'm looking forward to moving on with my training now that I've Jumped (excuse the pun) over a major hurdle! I don't even care if I get everything right the first time, I'm just so glad I finally did my own freefall! I can't wait to try the back and front loops and everything else. The best part about learning to skydive, for me, is that it has changed me in so many ways. I never imagined getting into this would have such an impact on everything else in my life. It's awesome!!! 3. Man, I can't even put it into words. Something amazing happened that day. I just got out there and had a blast. I did one more jump with the static line and then did my "live pull". Both jumps ended with stand-up landings, which I've heard are overrated, but I loved them. My instructor ran up to me after both jumps and hugged me and told me he was proud of me. It was one of the best days I've ever had. I remember thinking "so this is what it's supposed to feel like!" 4. ***Just remember, as you go thru your student progression, the key word for any student is PATIENCE as you learn to freefall with stability. __________________________________________________ That's one of the great things about SL. They can combine several skills in other jumps so that you can still finish the course in 12 jumps. Of course I have no problem going beyond that, but I just love how gradual they make it. So that it's not too overwhelming if I'm learning more than one thing in a jump. I love that I was already comfortable with canopy control and landing when it came time to freefall. Of course, I still have much to learn in canopy flying and landing, but at least it wasn't all new to me at one time. 5. yes, I kept my eyes on the plane and my head up the whole time. I was very stable, but my JM said the only thing he saw was I had a little trouble keeping my legs far enough apart, so next time I will work on that. Considering my classic d-arch on my AFF jump and flipping everywhere, I'm pretty elated! Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  6. Good luck with your training and have a great time! Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  7. I became a REAL skydiver today! No more dope rope! For the first time I was beyond excited and just had the time of my life. It was so awesome going into freefall and pulling my own chute! Stand-up landing as well. I was seriously crying when I landed. For the last few jumps, I've been mostly overcome by fear and anxiety. Having heard all of you talk about how fun this is, I can now proudly say I TRULY UNDERSTAND! Your support and encouraging words helped a bunch. Thank you
  8. Yes, it will be a 5 sec. delay. I guess I wasn't thinking of the first "live pull" as a freefall. Of course, what else would it be? Actually, I'm more excited about it than I've ever been. Of course I'm still a little nervous but I know the only thing I can do is just go for it. I just hope that the more freefalling I do, the more excited I will become. I've been hearing all of you say "RELAX AND HAVE FUN". I plan on smiling all the way in the plane tomorrow, hopefully that will help. I'll let you all know how it goes. Thanks for all the wonderful words
  9. Wow, I feel a whole lot better now! I didn't realize the canopy and landing were the hardest parts. DUH! Yes, I've still got much to learn about canopy flying and landing, but I feel much more confident about them. This last weekend I watched my friend pass her AFF level 7 at SSM and it made me really want to get out there and freefall. I just hope that's how I feel tomorrow when I have to do it. 10. sorry I'm so long in replying. Haven't checked this thread in a while. I'm glad I did though because my first freefall is tomorrow! No one will be exiting the plane with me. I climb out and hang all by myself. I think that is what is freaking me out. I went really unstable on my first AFF jump and was grateful someone was there to pull for me. 11. All of my solo jumps have been from a C182. It's still kind of spooky climbing out and hanging, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. I have never exited from anything else by myself. Did three tandems and one AFF from an Otter. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28

  13. "She Can't Be Really Gone" by Tim McGraw. My mother-in-law died of cancer in 1996 and it makes me think about her. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  14. I met Mockingbird for the first time out at SSM last Satuday to cheer her on her level 7 AFF jump! She was absolutely elated when she landed, and I loved hearing how her freefall went and seeing how confident she was! This sport is wonderful, but even more wonderful is the closeness between it's members. Anyway, big congrats to Mockingbird for such a great jump! 15. ***and I remember seeing the instructor who had followed me out smiling right in front of me __________________________________________________ I'm on SL as well and man I can't wait to freefall for the first time with someone. I honestly think I will feel so much more relaxed having someone out there with me. Just need to get through the first freefall by myself. 16. Man! I understand how horrible that is. I had to put my mini-dachshund to sleep a couple of years ago because he came in the backdoor dragging his back legs. The vet said there was nothing they could do except get him some wheels for his back legs, but he would still be in pain. It took every ounce of strength (escpecially since I was 8 mos. pregnant) I had to drive him to the vet and hand him over. What you did for your dog was a truly selfless act. I'm sorry for the pain you are going through and I hope you heal quickly. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  17. A lot of people say "you're doing that with two small children?" and I respond "No, they don't jump with me." And my response to the question "Why are you doing that?" is "you will never know that unless and until you do it yourself." They usually have no response to that. 18. What is a hook turn? I found out the hard way. Did one on my 2nd S/L jump. I did not intend to, just thought I hadn't made my final turn yet I was fine; just had to listen to my instructor chew on me for a little bit (as he should have). Luckily I had a large canopy
  19. Well, I am doing a live pull after doing one more practice one. Is that considered the first freefall? If so then yes, it will probably only be about 5 seconds. But after that I was told it would be a 20 sec. delay. That instructor could very well have misunderstood me but that is what he said. I'm only doing 12 SL jumps and then I'll be done with that part of the training. BTW, do you think it would be better if I asked an instructor to jump with me on the first "actual" freefall? Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  20. Honestly, I'm not sure what their protocol is. Not all of the instructors are on the same page. One told me "don't try to beat the canopy" and the last one who watched me said that I didn't get the dummy ripcord out in time, so yes, I'm slightly confused some of the time. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  21. ***What has been the longest delay you've experienced so far? Long enough to do a practice pull? __________________________________________________ I guess about 3 seconds. They always tell me to not try to beat the canopy when doing the dummy ripcord pulls, but last time my JM said it took me too long to get it out, but my body position was PERFECT! Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  22. __________________________________________________ Flying canopy and landing are, but not climbing out and hanging or the anxiety of going into freefall I'm going to have to work on those. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  23. *** i'm waiting for somebody to ask me if i've got a death wish, i'm going to reply... "no, i've got a LIFE wish" __________________________________________________ That is excellent! Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
