  1. I'm glad you posted about this because I've been wondering all day if you found the dog or not. I'm sure she is well taken care of since there were two other people feeding her. You are such a great guy! Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  2. I made a couple of jumps (first ones off student status) with a freind and then we had BBQ and some great fun. I then went to a different party around 10 that night to do fireworks and poker. By 2 Am the chips were all the same color so we decided it was time to quit. It was a fantastic ending to an even more fantastic year! 3. You are a BAD boy! Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  4. Walt! Why didn't you tell us it was your birthday? We could have had cake with the BBQ or at least sang "Happy Birthday" in the plane! Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  5. Well, first I will have to actually get that 2005 is over! It went WAY too fast! Getting my A license, selling our house and moving back to the gorgeous HILL COUNTRY, homeschooling my two wonderful boys in a whole new place, jumping at the DZ where my love for skydiving began (SSM), and whatever else God has in store! I am truly excited!
  6. I am currently looking into "accident insurance". There are some policies I believe will specifically cover skydiving if you are a uspa member. I've gotten a couple of quotes for policies ranging from 2500-10,000 per occurance. The deductables range from 100 to 250. I'm still doing research on them so I don't know all of the specifics. We are insured but I'm going to sign up for this as well. For those of you who are not insured, this might be something to look into. I believe the costs range from $30 to $45 a month. 7. ***I believe I can fly I believe I can touch the sky I think about it every night and day __________________________________________________I sang this after I did my first 30 sec. delay. Walked into the hanger carrying my chute and just belted it out. One of the instructors who had never heard me sing on the plane ride up said "I believe you can SING too." It was a great day
  8. No one can break the ice quite like you!! That's great. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  9. Glad you are okay! I guess the first cutaway is a confidence booster huh? Reading about your experience makes me feel better. Some of my family are up in arms about me jumping and I realize it's largely due to their lack of knowledge. It's nice to read a story where the system actually works. 10. Not me. I have a husband and two little boys. You can guess what I will be doing that day...and believe it or not, I would rather be doing that than jumping. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  11. Another SL graduate here. Gotta love those line twists
  12. First of all, I want to say I am glad Shayna is alive and recovering...and that her bundle is okay. I am barely off student status, so I can't offer much except my very limited personal experience. I have had a premature brake release, a stuck slider and a couple of line twists (all on different jumps of course). I had heard repeatedly that they were quite common and simple to fix and I think that may be why I was able to stay calm and take care of them. Blessings to Shayna, you and the rest of the family. Merry Christmas! Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  13. Man I was lucky if I got 2 in a day with our dinky little Cessna! I really don't think I would have wanted to do more than that because of the mental thing. Plus every time I jump I am so sore for at least two days from doing the arch. I hope this gets better! Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  14. Congratulations on finding the best sport in the world! (understatement). I just graduated last weekend from SL and it's great! The longer I'm in it the better it gets. Good luck to you and ENJOY, ENJOY, ENJOY!!! Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  15. My husband caught this story on CNN (while away on business) in his hotel room. He was in a state of panic as he is telling me "turn to CNN, quick". Of course I had already read about it here so I was able to explain what happened (or at least what I read here). He felt much better after that and actually could tell the slider was too high. I'm sure I'll be doing a lot of explaining the next few days, as will all of you. Don't you just love the media?
  16. ***Did it happen to you again? Or just one bad hit and it was over and done with? __________________________________________________ I shouldn't have jumped that day. I had just gotten over an ear infection and I guess it wasn't completely healed. I had never jumped without anyone strapped to me and I was completely unstable the whole skydive. I believe that is what scared me so bad. I have not had a problem with stability since
  17. I left the dropzone in an ambulance on my very first AFF jump. I wasn't injured because of the jump, I just went into shock and had a bit of vertigo, but they were super sweet to me. They even babied me a bit when they had to start the IV (I HATE IVs) When I got to the hospital the only feedback I got in relation to skydiving was a bunch of jokes. If anyone would have treated me badly, they would have been glad they were already in a hospital
  18. Man, what happened? I was just wondering if you did, or didn't do, the same thing as me. Now when I stand on the step, my instructor is in front of me and he pushes me off. I can't wait to just dive off of it
  19. What a great post!! Let's see...I started posting in May of this year and had only done my first tandem, but was madly in love with skydiving. Since that day I went from fired-up and excited to a basket-case full of nerves, and then to a confident and empowered woman! Started out doing AFF, switched to SL (GREAT decision), and graduated last Saturday....YES!!! In my very limited experience, I've sprained two ankles, landed on target (without a radio) while bleeding profusly from the nose (after hitting the step right out the door) and survived a hook turn (woops!). All of this after one very scary AFF jump. This sport has transformed me into someone I never imagined I could be. It's amazing to say the least. I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about. My goals are rather conservative. I just want to have a blast, get my A license and save up for my own gear, while learning as much as I can about this awesome sport of course. 20. ***Wanna do an eight way? __________________________________________________ Geez! We had 20 mph winds a couple of weeks back and I was too chicken to jump in that! My instructors had confidence that I could do it though
  21. Good job and good luck to you in the rest of your jumps! Man I'm glad I live in Texas
  22. Well, CONGRATULATIONS to you too! Isn't it great? So your graduation jump was at sunset too? What a treat. Keep on flying!! Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  23. Thanks all of you! It still doesn't seem real. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  24. Which program are you doing? Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  25. ***congrats! was you kid(s?) there to see it? hope so... __________________________________________________No, my family missed it unfortunately. I probably would have been a little more nervous had they been there. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
