Eric Butts had a similar experience. My instructor in Beaumont was actually a witness. Said the reserve finally inflated and they he just flared with all his might, and then rolled around on the ground laughing. Glad to be alive I'm sure. 3. ***p.s. it's not the parachutes you need to be afraid of, it's the ground __________________________________________________ Or the steps of the Cessnas Seriously, great job on the jump and best of luck with your new way of life as a skydiver! 4. ***Lisa, contact Mutal of Omaha and ask about the Accident Insurance. It will only cover you in an accident, but skydiving is included. __________________________________________________ I did now know that there was such thing as accident ins. I am going to look into that myself. I suppose I could get this coverage even though we also have health ins. right? Thanks for the information
  5. I appreciate your support and compliments. I still feel like I'm thousands of feet in the air! Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  6. Thanks Beth. I think I was more ticked off than anything when it happened because I had such a great jump earlier. I was determined to make this jump a great one too, blood or no blood Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  7. ***Sorry for the long story _________________________________________________ Don't apologize! I love hearing about other's experiences. Thanks for sharing and for the great advice
  8. No problem, I certainly do not mind talking about it. First of all, I was a bundle of nerves the first few jumps and so didn't always think like I should. I believe I made the hook turn because I was scared of landing on the concrete (which there is a lot of at my small dz). All I had to do was make a very small (flat?) turn and I would have missed the concrete just fine, but it's as if my left arm just took over. My instructor ran out to me and said very sternly "explain to me just what that was all about". So I did, and have never made another turn like that. Very ironic, the next jump I made, I DID land on the concrete runway and it was actually my first stand-up landing. I did post about my hook turn but I'm not sure how to link it to this post. I guess you could click "show users posts". The title is "has anyone ever done this". You might also be interested in my most recent eventful jump. It's in safety and training and the title is "hit the step of a C182". Really sucked, but I have so much confidence now because of it. Any comments or advice you may have are greatly welcomed
  9. Thanks, that means so much coming from someone with so much experience. I didn't start out in the sport like this. I was really a bundle of nerves in the beginning but I just kept pushing and I'm glad I did. Yes I am proud and amazed at myself, yet guarded against overconfidence. As for the instructors, I think they were in shock more than anything. Seeing someone land while covered in blood has got to be a sight!! 10. MAN! I didn't realize it was so common. I really can't wait to start jumping from a bigger plane. It will be a luxury to me after only jumping from the C182! Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  11. ***Glad your nose isn't broken and that you're not discouraged. __________________________________________________ Thanks! I'm glad it's not broken, and I'm especially happy I didn't hit with my mouth. No way would I let something like this ruin my skydiving adventure! I've been through too much to get to this point! __________________________________________________ ***Best solution? 12. Did one of those myself on jump #2 but it involved a hook turn Thank the Lord for BIG canopies! BTW, I did not mean to do the hook turn. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  13. How did it go? Are you addicted? Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  14. Glad you joined us! I'm very new to skydiving but sounds like you and I have a lot in common. No cutaways but some unfortunate circumstances (from which I have learned much). Welcome to the group! Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  15. ***either way, i am proud of you for hanging in and getting it done _________________________________________________ Thanks Ali, I still don't know how I did it Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28

  17. How fantastic! It is both the most wonderful and hardest job you will ever do and nothing else compares to it. Congrats! Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  18. Thanks everyone. I feel better knowing that has happened before and I'm thanking God it wasn't my chin or my mouth that I hit. I have braces and that would have been REALLY, REALLY bad!! I'm looking forward to my next jump
  19. This could only happen to me! My second jump for the day, and technically my 13th. I had already done one awesome jump with my JM hanging onto me and I was super stable! So we go up to do one more with my Jm still exiting with me but not hanging onto me. He climbs all the way out and hangs while I hold onto the strut and have one foot on the step and one dangling! I initiate the count "ready, set, go" and bam! I hit the step with my nose. So all I could do was arch with everything I had to stop the small spin I was in. I managed somehow to do everything I was supposed to and pull at the correct altitude. I thought my goggles were fogging up during the freefall but actually they were covered in blood. When I went to unstow the breaks, my hands were drenched too. It was my first jump without the radio as well. I still landed where I was supposed to and will never forget the look of shock on the instructor's face when he saw me. I must have looked like I had been shot! The JM that jumped with me didn't even know I had hit and he was actually flying with me the whole time unaware anything was wrong. The pilot did see me hit and thought I was just too far up on the strut. Needless to say, I am NEVER exiting like that again! My nose is pretty swollen, but not broken, yet I can't WAIT to jump again. Man I must be crazy Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  20. If you can find something you love to do, and it's possible to do it on the way up, you might try it. I was an absolute bundle of nerves on my first 5 SL jumps. I LOVE to sing! So on the last two jumps, one of them being my first freefall, I sang one of my favorite songs. I was not absolutely terrified on those jumps and they went great! Of course breathing and smiling don't hurt either. Best of luck! Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  21. I guess if you don't take birth control it doesn't matter
  22. You've sure been a big help to me in becoming a lot less thinned-skinned, and I'm certainly happier for it. I still stand firm in my beliefs and convictions, but do not feel threatened by anyone who disagrees with me anymore. So there is at least one good thing that came from SC
  23. ***What, does she wear shoes around her neck? That seems very bulky. __________________________________________________ Wearing a canopy around my neck would be even bulkier! No, seriously, it's actually a stick figure of someone running. My parachute necklace is prettier Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
