  1. Would this be a heavy gauge copper wire they recommend? Quote Sounds like something that could bend and poke you in the eye !

  4. geeze, I might just take the helmet and ditch the camera. You can get a brand spanking new TRV19 for about $450. Quote Bad idea , The Sidewinder is camera specific .
  5. QuoteThere are a lot of parrots that these boards have created. People have to start some where , I am sure that with 9400 posts and 700 jumps that you might have been one of them at one time.
  6. I broke my leg in 2000 , I had back problems for 15 years to the point where i thought that i might have to give up work , With one good smack and three months off i can now say that i am pain free and enjoy our sport even more . I still jump with the metal spike in my leg .
  7. QuoteIf your at the DZ I work at and you rip a 270 and then tell me you don't know how high you are when you land "like that" I'll pop your reserve. I am usually at 0' when i land .
  8. I've just had one hard opening under my Cobalt in 500 jumps , I tried packing different ways and always get the same soft opening , I love mine .
  9. I will be 47 when the spring jumping starts again , I have been jumping since 95 and have 900 weekend jumps , I am still having fun . The thing i like about jumping is that when i do it i don't think about work . ( Good medicine )
  10. I questioned the people at Mirage about a smaller P/C, They told me that they use a P/C that will extract "all" canopy's from their container ,They also seemed to be worried that i might re sell my container with the smaller P/C to someone that did not know better and then have an accident with it , so i guess in the end they are more worried about potential law Suites that what will work best with a Cobalt. At least that was the impression that i got from them ,
  11. ***So, were you not impressed with the way it extracted the bag?...or the way it fit in the pocket? I did not like the way it fit in the pocket ,I tried the 22" a few times and did not notice any difference in the way my canopy opened , I was uncomfortable it so i switched back to the one that came with my Mirage ,
  12. ***What is "correctly"? You want your pilot chute to open your container and the pull your bag away from your container quickly, but not too quickly. From Bill Booth : ***The ideal separation velocity, that is the speed which the canopy is traveling away from you at line stretch, is 50 feet per second. An acceptable range is 30 to 70 FPS. If a pilot chute causes separation velocity outside that range, I do not considerate it "safe". How can you tell what your separation velocity is? You can look at a video of one of your deployments and count video frames at 30 per second. An acceptable time from container opening to line stretch is 0.45 to 0.75 seconds, or about 13 to 22 frames. Any faster or slower and you are "asking for it" For the record i have a Mirage and a Cobalt 120 and use a 28" pilot chute without any problems , I tried a 22"Cazer P/C but was not impressed with it , I felt it was too small and slippery to be put into a spandex poach that was built for a 28" P/C .
  13. ***Bill's reply: Your pilot chute is "unsafe" if it doesn't deploy your main correctly. What is "correctly"? You want your pilot chute to open your container and the pull your bag away from your container quickly, but not too quickly. If your pilot chute accelerates your bag away from you too slowly you have the potential for line twists because of the extra time your unsymmetrical deployment bag is exposed to the slipstream, or a bag lock caused by your suspension lines actually "blowing up" above your bag and entangling with it. Not to mention taking more altitude than necessary to deploy. If your pilot chute accelerates your bag too quickly, you have the potential for inertial line dump, high snatch force (when the canopy hits the end of the lines and is decelerated back to your speed), slider rebound (where the slider bounces off the slider stops and your canopy starts its opening sequence with the slider a few inches down the lines. OUCH), and a generally disorganized opening, increasing your chance of malfunction.
  14. Every once in a while you see something interesting on these forms and this is one of them . I am not sure that a smaller knife would have done the job of cutting the seat belt , Another instance where bigger is better .
  15. They are known as the Sidewinder line of helmets. Ether the Sidewinder (based on a factory diver) or the Sidewinder O2 (based on the Oxygn) are avaliable from SkySystems, exclusivly through Square One. Quote I have a Sidewinder O2 that i sent back to Skysystems last year to have a new liner replaced in it , They told me that they stopped producing it because it was "so camera specific" , Like Diablo pilot said it is a great helmet for coach jumps and i carry it along on most of my RW jumps , Most of the time i don't even know it is there , I have a Vortex which is much more stable and is a full faced camera helmet that can be used with or without the shield , I took mine off and use an eye site , [url] http://www.dropzone.com/gear/Detailed/121.html I use my Sidewinder O2 for freeflying and have never had a problem with it. It is a great camera helmet for someone just getting started.
  16. I think the Bone Bond has been discontinued .
  17. I was not talking about building my own but having a rigger build a set for me as opposed to just installing one from Atair . If he built a set would the tolerances be as close as the ones manufactured . I am thinking there is room for error ,
  18. It is time to get my canopy re lined , Any thought on building a new set from scratch vs. buying a new set , My canopy is a cobalt and Atair sells the lines but does not install them ,
  19. I used to have one. Nice canopy, VERY VERY responsive to toggle input, good openings, short recovery arc and decent surfs. Quote i have a 135 with pretty much the same qualities except that it opens pretty hard , i am going to have a h-mod done to it this winter , that should fix the f....er !
  20. (Soft reserve handles ) , I have one , Used it , No problems !
  21. The things you should be looking to are: Too short of a distance from riser to first stow, stows too tight (I don't mean they should be loose), placement of the risers in the main tray (should not wrap around/against the bottom of the reserve), canopy out of trim. Quote He has 10 jumps with just 1 good opening on different rigs , I find it hard to believe that it would be packing problems with all of the rigs .
  22. Why don't you just ask your J/M for his opinion ,If you are always jumping a different rig then maybe it is your body position , Mike is always around to deploy students and does video as well ,ask him .
