  1. i understand your point but then this leads me back to my original idea where you have pockets all the way up the bridle. not the massive ones in the pictures of ones actually made but lots of little cells running the full length of the bridle. i would of thought that if you have them running both sides then theres got to be enough drag there and not cock up any deployment. maybe one day when i have some money and experience i'll make it and try and let you all know what happens. im tempted to patent the idea just to kill some time over the summer and enertain a little hobby to keep me busy (i know its a crap idea really but i'm having so much fun with it) "When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading."
  2. i just find this thread really fun trying to work out the way i think it would be best done. by learning how its a crap idea, as you guys have said, i learn more about how the gear works. at work again, my internet went down at home but i did have about 10 diagrams and explanations drawn up for my "next level" of complexity.   3. i wrote a long reply but something about a fatal error meant it didnt get posted so im just going to explain the picture i just drew. 1) normal reserve deployment 2) attachment of secondary pilot chute. red - normal attachment point, green - reserve bridle with slack between two attachment points to allow the PC to fully inflate. yellow - secondary attachment point. 3) deployment with a horshoe mal. i guess the second PC would have to designed slightly differently because of the second attachment point OR there could be "string, bridle, etc" between half way up PC and the reserve bridle. this would mean that the normal deployment would be unaffected (pretty much) as the secondary PC would be deflated. the only thing i could see wrong with this would be that the secondary point could cause the 2nd PC to deform and not inflate properly? dont shout me down too much if im completely wrong here. i type as i think, this thread is FUN

  5. i just thought if you have 2 PC's or these pockets the freebag is going to rocket off your back. 2 PC's - twice as fast to line stretch?? i was just wondering and trying to see holes in the idea of having this modification. i say its a hole in the idea because i thought that if it was beneficial to have the freebag extracted at this speed then wouldnt it be standard already? not a very concise line of thought but its all i could think of with my vast amount of knowledge about the gear we use so, anyone out there with any negative points about having this on your reserve bridle? any "possible" nasty outcomes with having ths setup?   7. and how does this affect a normal reserve deployment? if you have two PC's do you have to reduce the size of the normal one? or just add this extra PC and get much faster openings? edit : if the PC is attached at the reserve bridle with none of its own bridle i guess that snagging or additional wrapping of the reserve bridle isnt going to happen? cheers for all the replies. this is a great way to learn about the kit and its limitations / strengths and of all the other options and possibilities out there, "When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading."
  8. with this line of thought, why dont they add more pockets to the bridle then to make sure that the freebag CAN leave the container? with the pockets facing the way they are they shouldnt make a normal deployment any different, right? now, if they don't need to make the bridle longer so that these pockets work (i dont know the length of a reserve bridle) then why dont manufacturers have this modification? it seems like a no brainer to me (unless someone can explain a negative side to having these). edit to add: seriously, manufacturers out there. why dont you have this modification?     I might be going over to visit this summer. Haven't decided yet. I know that I'm taking a couple of months off before starting work, but just too busy finishing stuff now to actually plan for vacation stuffs. I would love to visit Stonehenge (as does everyone, I'm sure) there is a DZ a few minutes away from stone henge. netheravon or "nethers". its a wicked drop zone.   10. Once you get the bag high enough for that to happen the canopy will deploy without the drag of the PC or the bridle. The hard part is just getting the bag to come out of the pack tray.
  11. but looking at that diagram i see one problem (again most likely wrong but thats what stands out to me), although they are facing the correct way, as the bag gets higher the bridle gets shorter on the bag side (if that makes sense) eventually these pockets will go over the peak of the bridle where it goes back down towards the PC and there fore become useless( as they are facing the wrong way), the question is, could these pockets still extract the reserve before this happens?   14. after a long waffley post that i deleted by accident and cant be arsed to type again i just wanted to ask: does the speed of opening directly translate into reliability of opening? (i read somewhere that base canopies open as reliabily as reserves or even better) my 2nd question is: as we want performance in our canopies we sacrifice opening charachteristics found in a reserve. students dont need this performance so i was wondering if student canopies are based on /are very similar to reserve design?   16. i always assumed that if the canopy was about to collapse plunging on the front risers would be the best thing, get that canopy to scoop up some air. i have been in turbulence and never did anything of the sort but i just though if you are up high and it collapses that would make the most sense.   17. maybe change your handles colours ? something that will stand out from your suits? edit : i have no idea why all the stuff below is crossed out. ignore that. i only have 100 odd jumps but the way i see it before you have some serious jump numbers that should be your first decision making criteria for them, not what goes with your colour scheme on your rig?   20. i just thought. im newbie with 100 jumps and only one year in the sport. i figured my idea although does make some sense is probably silly and not reallistic. it popped into my head and the only way i can share it and see if it would work would be to post here. the fact you said that makes me so happy that you think it would be an idea worth nicking!!! if it becomes standard (ha ha in a dream world!) then im happy with taking the credit! of course making money would be great but thats a bit late now i think unless manufacturers feel like employing a student bum who stilll sucks at packing "When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading."
  21. cheers! ok here is my idea. 1) "nose" of cell to catch the air 2) ZP material to catch the air sewed ontop of reserve bridle 3) 2nd cell, pointed the other way so drag can be induced no matter the position of bridle 4) seem to split the cells. 5)reserve bridle my 1st idea is to sew the opposite facing cells ontop of eachother so the end of the cell is sewed ontop of the "nose" of the other. the 1st way mentioned is easier to draw to explain though i just figured that if you had these on the whole of the bridle (both sides) thats got to be the same amount of surface area as a pilot chute. how do you think this would change a normal reserve deployment? edit to add: credit to my friend jack for the diagonal seem idea. we were chatting about it and drawing it this morning whilst very hungover.   22. why not just make the pockets larger then or cover more or the bridle? i guess this could affect the deployment if the PC is pulling on the reserve and so is the bridle. would this make a normal deployment too fast (if there is such a thing)?   23. ok maybe this is a dumb idea but what if the reserve bridle had pockets on it? small material pockets placed all along the reserve bridle. these would catch the air, and create a higher pull force and not cause any extra entanglement issues? well something along those lines anyway. most likely a dumb idea but "could" this work? edit to add: if it works you gotta let me name it!   24. what is "the catapult"? and from what i understand the best thing out there to prevent you tumbling through your reserve is the skyhook because it opens your reserve so fast that there is less time for you to tumble through it. "When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading."
