out of interest why do you guys think this type of d-bag is better than the normal ones you jump with. i mean, the parachute is out so quickly that why would you want to change a d-bag that works fine and canopies that are already designed to open nice and softly? caspar "When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading."

Do skydivers care about safety? Bill Booth

guess this is a stupid comment because everyone downsizes... instead of downsizing your main couldnt you just stick with the same size but get a more aggressive/sporty design???? couldnt you have a very ellipitical 170 or something?? if you want to have an awesome time under canopy is downsizing the only way forward?? if you could just get more aggressive deisgns instead of downsizing wouldnt that solve all your problems?? im a newbie, thats my excuse for whats most likely a stupid comment... -
i weigh 12 and a half stone. started learning on a 280. have got 40 jumps and am now on a 190. theres no way in hell you'd get me using a 170. planning to downsize to that after a hundred jumps or so. read somwhere that your wingloading should go up 0.1 per 100 jumps (1.1 at 100 jumps, 1.2 200 jumps, etc) are you sure you are jumping a 170. thats pretty damn small....... remember not to look straight down but ahead at a 45 degree angle. that gives you a better view of how high you are. that helped me quite a bit. im newly qualified so dont listen to what i say as THE thing to do. definitely chat to your instructors... caspar "When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading."

what are cut-in laterals? would a sabre 1 190 loaded at 1.0 be ok for starting CReW with??? ive only got 39 jumps and would like to try it out once ive bumped up my jump numbers a bit. cheers, caspar "When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading."

i was reading in the incident forum about the sabre related accident. someone mentioned that the way you stow your lines has a huge effect on whther you get spanked or not. how do you determine what is a too tight stow and what is too loose? by trying it and feeling the difference? what would you guys reccomend for types of bungy? (i know there are alot of different types/sizes but i dont know the difference between them..... thanks again for all the help.. "When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading."

i dot do crew but am very interested in it. i was just wondering aboutlines snagging on your rig. is that somethng that just mainly happens in Crew?? i jump a javelin odyssey container.....do i need to wrry about lines getting caught on it???? probably worrying about it too much, the thought of lines wrapping around me has ocurred but not them getting snagged "When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading."

thats what a guy in my club said and laughed!!!.....think he wanted me to find out for him! think i 'll pass thanks!!! "When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading."

just started learning to the risers...was wondering what would happen if you pulled the front right riser and back left riser at the same time. asked the guys in my club and they didnt know. not something i want to try as i have no idea what woud happen...... bit of a pointless question but i have to ask! when i was doing my AFF in the states i met a guy who was jumping with those new oakley sunglasses which had an MP3 built in. he listened to music in freefall.... what do you guys think about listening to music in freefall?? not something im considering - only just started.... just wondered how many of you do, if it makes the dive better or it simply destroys your alti awareness?? i remember reading an article once that said if you listen to fast music (cant remember the number of beats/min they stated), on average you become a better driver....... psycho pack. i'm gonna be honest and say that ive never heard of that.... i really enjoy jumping with the sabre, i just seemed to pick up on a negative vibe about it somewhere along along the line... still not looking forward to getting spanking by it tho! another quick question (sorry!)- is a fast opening parachute like the sabre more or less likely to have a mal? im thinking that if it opens really quickly there wont be enough time for something to go wrong as its opening..... ? ?? thanks again guys!! out of interest....how many jumps do you think you should have to go to the WFFC and do one of those really high jumps (was told 26,000ft!?!?!). not the min requirement but what you guys think is a very safe min....millions of canopies everywhere plus i guess you need oxygen assist to do that big jump. edit sorry to keep replying. its 2am here in england and i have my end of year exams for uni at the moment. got one in oooh, 7 hours and i need to revise but have been revising for 14 hours so need distractions or i'll go mad! allowed to take notes in the exam and trying to squeeze it all on 1 A4 page "When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading."

i understand that if manufacturers put less pressure on the forward risers they'll put them on the rear risers but it sounds like most new canopies have lower pressure on bothe risers. does this mean that more pressure is applied to the center of the parachute?? does more toggle pressure mean that although you have to use mire force to pull them downyou get a more reposnive/effective flare- im assuming this with: more energy in - more energy out... although i know i dont really need to worry about this at my level its seems that this is a major flying determinant. for a beginner who is starting to think about buying a rig what would you recommend in terms of toggle/riser pressures?? ive been told all the popular canopy makes, id like to know as much as i possibly can about canopies before i make such a huge investment, it would be great to know what i want in terms of specifications before i even look at canopy makes. that way big brand names, or the "canopy you have to get" wont affect my choice, just the best i can get for what i want. i mainly hear what the size it is, how fast it goes, manufacturer, etc. cheers for all the great advice by the way!
-
when i think of less riser pressure i somehow think of that having adverse efects on the canopy. imean....theyve got to loose one thing to gain another right? and if thats so then changing riser pressure must do something to way the canopy flies?? any pros and cons you can possibly give on varying levels of riser/toggle pressure? "When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading."

heavy toggle pressure??? "When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading."

hi there, im jumping my club rig ( the main is a sabre 190). my wing loading is pretty 1 on the dot maybe a bit over (1.1).... people seem to talk about original SABREs quite negatively.....i know they can spank you quite hard and have yet to experience that momentous occasion but i was just wondering ...is that the only reason its not a prefferable canopy? im learning to pack it so it doesnt spank me but i keep thinking there may be other reasons why people dont seem to like it? or is it just because its a bit outdated now and most people have newer canopies?? cheers, caspar "When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading."

soeone said that the cypres cuts the cord(?) once and the vigil cuts it twice. i dont really understand the pro's and cons of that at all..... "When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading."

hi i'm newly qualified.....36 jumps..... you guys are talking about testing a reserve canopy and how it could save your life. how do you test a reserve canopy. put it on your main risers??? what do you do about a reserve incase the one you test f**ks up??? im using my universities club rig, theyve never mentioned testing a reserve . am i worrying too soon too early?? i doesnt seem so to me but i dont know how to go about testing the reserve we have (especially with my wonderfull, almost maxed out, overdraft]. how much would it cost to test the reserve im using now (in £'s) ??? cheers, caspar "When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading."
