  1. When did I say I wouldn't or shouldn't be? I said they have ramifications for their actions, and I'll have ramifications for mine. I come from an old school background I guess. If you have a grievance with someone, you take it up with them. You don't go running to the government to help. That's where the society of law suits came from. I think there would be a whole hell of a lot more civility in the world if people got a smack in the head for being dumbasses every once in awhile. If I'm on the subway and some jerk is blasting a radio...I don't sit nervously and try to ignore it. I ask them to turn it down. If I'm in a restaurant and some jerk is screaming into their cell phone, I don't get the waiter, I walk over and ask them to quiet down. If I'm at a bar and some guy hits his girlfriend, I don't ignore it, I tell the guy if he hits her again he'll have to deal with me. That's the way I am and I make no appologies for it. I agree with all that ...right up until you decide to strike someone. At that point, an apology might be of some benefit in a sentencing hearing. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  2. Ummm..yes. That's kind of the point of it. As for the rest of your post....if you're trying to insinuate that anyone who ever got in a fight in school will become an armed robbing, rapist, kidnapper...you're stretching things a bit. And if people can't control their ignorant mouths, nature has provided a fist for them. There are certain things you DO NOT DO in polite society. You don't go to funerals and scream into bullhorns. And you don't say that someone deserved to die in front of their good friend the day after their demise. Back in the day, I guess I'd challenge them to a duel. But we don't have that option these days. Sometimes honor is worth defending. With those words and that attitude, you make an excellent argument for your being arrested and punished for your actions at the time. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  3. Yes. Now can YOU read what you JUST posted after the "punch in the face" line? A fight occurred from the initial blow. A fight is an act of two people. How many fights do you know of that do not start with one person striking first? I simply took issue with the statement: 'What you describe is not a fight" when he CLEARLY said a fight was the result of the punch. But thanks for questioning my comprehension skills. Ironic. Correction accepted. I now clearly see that is not your comprehension abilities that should have been questioned. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  4. What you describe is not a fight. You struck another individual. linz He said that it led to a fight. How exactly did fights start when you went to school? Children in school usually should not be sent to jail for starting a fight. Half of my school would not had graduated had that occured. Can you read??? He said, I punched him in the face and we got in a fight ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  5. Jail is harsh?!?!?! OMG! At the risk of sounding like an activist again, did he break the law? Did he commit battery against another person who broke no laws and represented no threat? Yes, I would support his arrest and detainment until a very reasonable bail was posted by parents. Do I think he should have been sentenced to jail time ...sounds disproportionate from what he states, but arrested and taken to jail, you bet! Such mistakes are the main reason juvenile records are sealed when you become an adult. FYI, I spent a total of 6 days in the hospital and had two surgeries for a fractured jaw and a Laforte (sp?) fracture when a student struck me. The student was suspended from school, arrested and placed on probation. That was seven years ago. He is currently in jail awaiting trial in Orange Country for four counts of Armed Robbery, rape and kidnapping. If you can't control your testosterone, society has passed laws to help you. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  6. While my sympathies would be with you, I would not have accepted your action. He made a shitty comment. He didn't earn the suspension and you deserved to go to jail. Perhaps if you had served some time you wouldn't currently be so willing to "do it again". ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  7. Christmas even started out controversially in North America. Reverend Rel Davis writes: The festival of Christmas has always been a controversial one in Christianity. The Puritans banned Christmas altogether and during the Cromwellian period in England, anyone celebrating Christmas was jailed for heresy. Probably the most hated of all Puritan laws was the one abolishing Christmas and probably led to popular acceptance of royalty (nb: the Restoration) -- at least the King allowed the masses to celebrate Yule! In America, Christmas was generally outlawed until the end of the last century. In Boston, up to 1870, anyone missing work on Christmas Day would be fired. Factory owners customarily required employees to come to work at 5 a.m. on Christmas -- to insure they wouldn't have time to go to church that day. And any student who failed to go to school on December 25 would be expelled. Only the arrival of large numbers of Irish and northern European immigrants brought acceptance of Christmas in this country. Christmas did not even begin to be a legal holiday anywhere in the United States until very late in the nineteenth century CE, with Alabama being the first state to make it so. http://www.locksley.com/6696/xmas.htm ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  8. Not sure which of my comments you are responding to but, did you not read this: "I empathize with his feelings but would not accept his actions" I'm in agreement with his feelings. Remember, Bill, attack the message not the messanger. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  9. Yes he did. "I am sorry but if someone protested at one of my fellow Marines funeral then I would be facing more then a battery charge." Later he sniveled and stated, "Keep in mind that I would not actually start anything with them that just how I feel about what they are doing" I empathize with his feelings but would not accept his actions. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  10. I'm wondering which idiots you are referring to. The freakazoids who dishonor a family grieving for their lost loved one ...or the more dangerous subspecies who would beat and/or kill those who broke no laws and presented no threat to anyone, while wrapping themselves in the flag of honor? ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  11. hehe, I'm gonna burn, aren't I???? ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  12. It's a good a time as any to get naked and over-indulge in just about anything pleasurable. Or do you celebrate in some other way???
  13. By miracle, do you mean something on the order of: an event in the external world brought about by the immediate agency or the simple volition of God, operating without the use of means capable of being discerned by the senses, and designed to authenticate the divine commission of a religious teacher and the truth of his message (John 2:18; Matt. 12:38). It is an occurrence at once above nature and above man. It shows the intervention of a power that is not limited by the laws either of matter or of mind, a power interrupting the fixed laws which govern their movements, a supernatural power. Sometimes, things happens I don't have an answer or explanation for. As an example, this is the second time I have typed the above response. As I was reaching my little finger over to post, the power blipped off for a second, rebooting the computer. Now, I could a) fall to my knees in religious awe that my lord and savior cared about me enough to send me a sign to accept jesus in my heart as my personal savior and spend the evening in prayerful repentance that I felt that those who had conversations with imaginary beings were nuts. b) attribute the likelyhood to the extensive work being done on the power system down here following Hurricane Wilma and with full and certain knowledge, deny the existence of god. c) accept the fact that the power blipped off for a sec. At the risk of furthering my rep a rigid, uptight religiously intolerant (of christianity only) name calling, activist who lurks in the shadows seeking out only those select individuals deserving of my satanic wrath to thwart spiritual awareness and growth ...I'm gonna go with 'C'.
  14. I appreciate your measured response. We disagree on what are 'facts', but I can live with that. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  15. Whatever. Go ahead and falsely cast me (and others here) as right-wing fanatics -- just like last year. Next, start insinuating that all of us "right-wing fanatics" are closet homosexuals with a secret chest full of brown shirts and white sheets in the attic -- just like last year. See where all of that leads -- just like last year. I don't think you are a fanatic, I think you just lost sight (as others have done in different eras) of what freedom really is and what has made this country great. I'm here to remind you and help you back from your poorly chosen path. No need to thank me, I'm not doing it for you. I'm doing it to try and save my country from you. I have absolutely no reason to think, nor have I ever implied, you are in the closet. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  16. Hmmm, it's precicely such issues that makes the first amendment vital to freedom and the reason it was the very first protection written. "America isn't easy. America is advanced citizenship. You've got to want it bad, because it's gonna put up a fight. It's gonna say, "You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil who is standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours. You want to claim this land as the 'land of the free'? Then the symbol of your country cannot just be a flag. The symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest. Now show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms. Then you can stand up and sing about the 'land of the free.'" --President Andrew Shepherd in The American President ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  17. Well, if you also feel you have no bitch coming when you are arrested and tried for assault and battery ...and receive no more consideration in sentencing than any other individual who was unable to control his aggression and attack a cititizen who was breaking no laws and no direct threat to you or others. If you agree with that, then I have no problem with your position. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  18. Your flury of responses seem to be getting weaker and weaker in substance. In all honesty, perhaps it's just me as I am no where near your data point on the freedom-oppression graph. I'd be interested if others shared my assessment, but they made a special rule here that prevents a simple poll of what I consider to be a reasonable question, but I'm thinking you are a short step away from "I know you are, but what am I?". No matter how ardently you wish to support your government, there comes a time (now?) when you have to admit your support is unwarranted. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  19. I wish it were possible to calculate the % of ongoing US Soldier deaths which are attributable to those people. Are we back to the 60's, "you are killing our soldiers by your lack of support for the war" kind of thing??? The people that sent them there are responsible for 100% of their deaths! See, I don't give a rat's ass about democrats or republicans. What I care about is that we have a president selling hatred and fear; sacrificing innocent lives to perpetuate power and profit!!! So keep on yelling Democrats! Kennedy! Kerry! while our soldiers die in vain. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  20. The doc makes his own decision, no? True, but you know very well that no doctor would ever assist in the suicide of a healthy person. It was a total drop of the ball by the doctor in question to not check the diagnosis. I just finished talking to my mom (ICU nurse) about this and she says something is not right here. Even accepting the doc does not perform a simple blood test to confirm the diagnosis, mom states any experienced nurse could identify someone "terminally ill" from end stage liver disease from several feet away. The whites of the eyes are unmistakably yellow, as well as the skin ("sometimes they glow like a caution light or a pumpkin". Whole body fluid retention (ascites) and a quick look at a urine sample would reveal it would be "coca cola brown" from the liver disfunction. Absent these very obvious symptoms, she doesn't understand why the doc would accept the diagnosis. Unless the article is off base (no surprise there, right?) something doesn't add up. Any experienced medical people here have a comment? ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  21. Believe it or not, we agree on this. I'm pointing out that I fully understand why someone might get hurt. I place these protests on the same level as though that burn the flag, I hate both of them, but think both should have the right to do it. I also think those that do it, should make sure they have their asses covered, because while the law won't stop them, others might -- whether it's right or wrong. I disagree. Burning the flag is a political statement. Disrespecting a dead soldier and his family is personal. Well ....damn. Well said, dude! For me is was disrespectful to the family and friends burying someone they loved, soldier or not. I do not excuse the violence but I see no reason to cause further pain to the family. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  22. What proof do I offer that something you say exists actually does not exist ...I think you got that backwards. I'll bow out now and let you talk amoungst yourselves ...or to whoever you believe exists. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  23. If you are referring to me, I got nothing figured out. I have no answers at all. I just refuse to make shit up and worship my creation and am tolerant of every religious person's beliefs ...as long as they keep them to themselves. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  24. Michele, I'm glad you love your brother and his family. Live and be happy. jen ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  25. I see your point, but that just leads us back to the question of why FOX news is popular. I think part of the answer to that question is because they are more accurate. Obviously, you don't. Dunno, why did the Black Legion (the more aggressive successor to the KKK) have over 7,000,000 active, proud and public members? ------------------------------- The Black Legion primarily targeted communists, blacks, Jews, and Catholics in the name of God and protecting white Protestant America. The group was also opposed to FDR and his policies and was involved heavily with the Republican Party. The group was political, large, and took serious action, including lynching people, shootings, murders, floggings, kidnappings, and general threats of violence against people and groups that they opposed. The Black Legion was also acting in accord with the interests of some corporations as will be discussed below. They were involved in union busting and threatening labor organizers. In addition to this there were institutional members of the Black Legion, just as there had been institutional members of the KKK. As discussed above, members of the military and National Guard were of the Legion. ----------------------------- ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
