  1. We have their word on that, right? A case of 'trust me, I'm from the govt and I'm here to help you'? What bothers me is that if they want to take it further and tap pretty much anyone they want ...who's to stop them? I have to ask ...what do you want? I may be that the FISA law may be unconstituional to begin with. So, what do you want? Hell, nothing is an absolute. My next question would be is, who would you rather see with this power, Bush or Hilary? This is the president of the US. The primary concern of the the President is to protect US people and the US Constitution. Is there anyone you would trust with this power, or do you just hate Bush? Other than I am embarassed that our president is stupid, I have nothing particularly against bush. I mean, come on, it's not like he's actually guiding policy or anything. :) I trust no president, past, present or future, with this power. Do you? He has a higher IQ than the smartest President ever (Clinton). And I enjoy how a stupid man makes all his critics look more stupid than you think he is. This "stupid" president (I can't believe I am replying to someone who uses name calling in a debate) has had a great year. The left has yet to stop almost anything his is doing. Who is stupid? You honestly believe dubya is intelligent?!?!?! I know you have difficulty supressing your "but Clinton" knee jerk reaction to criticizms of your heroes, but to compare your ideological prince to a Rhodes Scholar should reveal (even to you) the absurdity of your response. Michael Jordon is tall, Water is wet and Dubya is stupid. Sorry if you don't like it (I don't either ;) but the man is stupid. Rhetoric aside (as you profess to prefer more refined discussion :) how bout answering the question? I trust no president, past, present or future, with this power. Do you? (I can't believe I'm responding to someone who won't respond to a simple question ...and stop calling me a name caller, you ...name caller :)~ jen P.S. You need better bait than that, bubba. ;) ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".

  4. It seems the officials went way over the top. People can get over-emotional over what appears to be an innocuous act. From the link supplied: "The first-grader was suspended for three days for sexual harassment after he put two fingers inside a classmate's waistband." ...and you turned it into this: First you make it into "under-garments", then you choose an emotionally charged "stuck their hands in ... under garments" and sum it all up as "a violation on another child". I understand and agree with your statements but you bumped up the kids reported actions to another level. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".

  6. He was an addictive personality. The addictive personality is capable only of moderating the direction of their disintegration. He did what he did to satisfy his own needs. He fucked up his life with drugs and alcohol and found something to be addicted to that allowed him to feel good about himself and feel he was contributing to the world. He was no different from the people who pretty much ruin their lives with addiction to drugs and behaviors who turn their addiction to working with Mother Teresa and cling to Jesus in a desperate attempt to feel good about themselves. Their new addiction grips them as powerfully as any substance but comes without the high societal judment pricetag . For Treadwell and those who mainline religion, they are doing nothing more than giving in to their addiction, but now they can hold high their banners of self worth. Given the mess of their former lives, it is a step up and I can see the benefit for them. It remains, however, nothing more than an addict who cannot stop being an addict. More power to them but it pretty much seems to me kind of like social methadone. That being said Treadwell developed a passion and pursued it with his entire being and while I can't see where he was doing anything of real benefit, he did no significant harm and lived and died doing what he loved. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  7. Worry no more. I have long been familiar with The Onion. I was wondering if people would actually, actually think I couldn't see the joke of that article. There are people here who think that little of my intellect, you know. - Yep, I think you swallowed that hook. ;) ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  8. Reading this and a previous post of yours, am I mistaken that you recommend a relative brief course of institutalization for the purpose of obtaining theraputic med levels and hormones, followed by release under med supervision? No. I'd recommend that she be institutionalized and placed under the care of doctors who can treat her appropriately. If she was truly suffering from an extreme case of PPP, as evidence seems to indicate, I think the only appropriate verdict would be not guilty by reason of insanity. Sounds appropriate to me. As opined elsewhere in this thread, the most humane thing to do would probably be to execute her, but as horrendous as her acts were, I believe long term care in a secure facility is appropriate in this case. I'm not sure about climbing on the PPP bandwagon however (nor the 'blame the man' or the 'kill the rabid cunt' bandwagons). She was psychotic long before this happened. I believe she was insane, at the time of the murders, in every meaningful sense of the word. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  9. The medical world is virtually unanimous that smoking pot provides significantly better relief of symptoms than oral preparations for cancer patients. Would you really deny them this? Why is this such an emotional issue with you? ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  10. Spew hate and divide people has pretty much become SOP for the Libs. I'm predictiing it will take the loss of one more Presidential election and a few more seats in the House and Senate before they finally figure out people are turned off by their tactics. More blacks are turning away from the NAACP because of leaders like Bond. The GOP uses hatred and fear far more effectively, don't you think? No I don't. Can you post an example that compares to this? Hey, I thought you had a PhD to work on? How are the cheeks? An example of the bush admin using fear and hatred for political gain gain?!?!?! You jest, Shirley. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".

  14. I would not feel comfortable with her living in a non-institutionalized environment ...unless it were after a long period (years) of institutional evaluation and treatment. Seems there is a societal tendency to understand and forgive women who break the law. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".

  17. According to an article in USA Today, Britain has 2.5 million cameras watching it's citizens, with more proposed. This doesn't smell just a little bit like a big brother state?? ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  18. I have no idea why it is that those who post offensively always take refuge in conspiracy theories when opposed, but that does seem to be the pattern. As for you, O Wicked One, usually I think you're right. This time, I think you're wrong. Nothing pretentious in that post; it was a totally appropriate response under the circumstances, IMO. Of course, this will just be taken in some quarters as more evidence of the conspiracy. rl I confess, I posted the link in 'Let's get nasty' to trap you in your web of lies. The link was to a completely socially unacceptable video clip completely unrelated to any previous discussion between you, the other playmates in the schoolyard, and myself. My bet was that all of you would seize on the unralated socially inappropriate behavior (it was ) to further your silly and petty ...er, conspiracy. I missed out on muenkel (and lost a private wager ) because he was not online before the thread was locked. So the 'conspirators' ( you, sinker/micro, and michele) showed true colors and jumped right on it. Now there is not a damn thing 'wrong' with a clique of people roaming the board looking for opportunity after opportunity to provide grade school like support of each other and 'get even' with the person who offended a playmate. I simply grew weary of you (collectively) taking the high moral ground on the issue de jour and wanted to demonstrate that your responses were merely clique reinforcing behavior ...nothing more. Now I really must spend my sabatical for what it is intended and will make this my last post for at least six months. Have fun! Oh, BTW ...Checkmate!

  20. Where's Muenkel??? I was sure the link would bring out all the playmates, (you, rl, michele and muenkel) to lash out in petty vengefulness under the guise of standing for what is right and holy. The link is a thoroughly disgusting video clip (the worst I've seen). What it is, is a form of sexual expression between two obviously consenting and obvious adults that most of us find disgusting. Being warned it is nasty, sick and disgusting, RL goes to it and takes it upon herself to be the boards standard setter ...why? Under the guise of morality, dignity (and hygiene!) the playmates, once again, circle the wagons and attack with a frenzy. The point being, boys and girls, if you take issue with a post, say what you have to say about the content. For those who drag around the board seeking those who offended their playmate and are looking for an excuse to excercise pettiness ...well, what does that say about you? To paraphrase George Carlin. There are two dials on the radio. One to turn it on and off and one to change the channel. If you merely don't like the clip, don't go there. Addendum: I see muenkel has not posted anywhere tonight, so please do not drop him from the clique. I'm sure he would have done his part if he was here. Thanks for playing. kaching! ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  21. What part of nasty, sick and disgusting did you not understand ...playmate? ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  22. Consider this a contest. Post a link to the nastiest, most disgusting movie clip you know of or can find. I'll start with one that was recently sent to me. WITHOUT A DOUBT, NSFW!!!! OK, you sickos, beat this one! (link deleted) ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  23. Thanks Michele. I always look forward to your eloquent words masking resentments of a more ...basic nature. But WTF, we all express ourselves in ways that meet our needs. Mine is more straightforward and abrasive , yours plays to the audience. I will admit, it is frequently difficult to respond to points you raise when you are just jumping in with harbored resentment in defense of a playmate for a comment expressed at other times and in other threads. Nicer prose but the real issue is, 'you said something I didn't like about my playmate'. Be that as it may, I'm going to stop. I've taken a years sabatical to write my dissertation and in avoidance of that, far too frequently come here to trade childish quips under the guise of matters spiritual. So I (hopefully) will turn my efforts toward what I should be doing. It's been fun, if not productive. I will admit, I was looking forward to receiving one last classic Michele "and that's sad" "sadder still" or "saddest of all" as your way of saying "bitch!" but I'll live with the disappointment. Have fun and I wish you and your playmates well. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  24. And that would explain a whole lot. Ciels- Michele You got me there, Michele. I never saw that coming. For the adults ... Whenever we turn our lives over to ...something, we lose enormous growth potential. Doesn't make any difference (outside of potential incarceration ) whether is it religion, drugs, psychosis (or combinations thereof) when we allow anything to rule a major part of our lives there is a big price tag. Now back to Michele ... ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
