  1. Most treatments are about the balance of good vs harm. In my example, my concern over the immediate irrigation of a nasty wound from dirty, rusty metal to avoid infection or tetanus, would far outweigh a possibility of slightly delaying wound healing by bitch slapping a few regenerating cells. If I have hydrogen peroxide handy ...I'm using it. Roughly a 4% povidoneiodine (betadine)/saline solution is pretty much the standard for wound irrigation in the ER. I would treat my wound with hydrogen peroxide (for gram positive bacteria and tetanus), then the saline/betadine (for gram negative bacteria), followed by irrigation with sterile saline (0.9%) solution. That's why I include then in my first aide kit. http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/510898_4 Wound irrigation with dilute betadine before wound closure, as we describe, may be a simple and practical method of infection prevention. The main effect of betadine solution is to eradicate bacterial seeding from the surgical wound and to achieve intraoperative disinfection. Topical irrigation with dilute betadine solution in our study was safe, fast, simple, and inexpensive, and reduced the incidence of infection after spinal surgery. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  2. It's not about brains, it's about focus. I sometimes rant about women who focus their lives on their shoes, clothes, makeup, fashion ...all superficial stuff. I don't believe most are stupid ...simple, shallow and self absorbed, but not genetically deficit. Spend your life concerned about the horrors of leaving the house with shiny skin and your world becomes rather narrow. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".

  4. It can do a lot of good and might (depending on concentration and amount) might cause a little harm to regenerating tissue. Let's say you were camping and cut yourself on a rusty piece of metal. If you had hydrogen peroxide, you would be well advised to irrigate the wound (copiously!), as it is quite effective against anaerobic bacteria such as the tetanus bacillus. Now if you happen to have a bottle of sterile saline solution and a bottle of betadine, I would recommend combining the two and irrigating with that. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".

  6. And I suspect that you simply don't get it. mh . Dude. Salute/don't salute. Since it has no significance to anyone but you, it really is all about ...you.
  7. Defending your president to this level of absurdity is not patriotic, it's just sad. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  8. Honest question: Do you trust what this administration tells the American public? Do you take everything they say at face value? Ummm ...yes, he does. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  9. Nicely put! And here I thought this thread was going to drop out of sight right away. I live on an Army camp, and being a veteran, I always feel awkward when retreat sounds. We civilians normally just stand still and face the flag, but it would be cool to know that it's acceptable to render proper honors. mh . I suspect what you are really saying is you want more recognition for your service. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  10. Your memory of the dialogue is incomplete. When questioned on whether requiring military service made for a better society, Mr. DuBois replied that it was just one system and like many others, functions to one degree or another. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  11. I think it was your "I get it. You're old." comment that led some of us to believe you were coming from a different place. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".

  15. Not sure, but I CAN PAINT THAT CAR FOR 39.95! You need to find the NY equivalent of 'Bubba'. Around here, I'd go to the Auto graveyard, get a muffler for around $50 and another 40-50 for Bubba (yes, his name really is Bubba ). If there is a tailpipe problem, soup can and hose clamps. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  16. "I can't believe that!" said Alice. "Can't you?" the queen said in a pitying tone. "Try again, draw a long breath, and shut your eyes." Alice laughed. "There's no use trying," she said. "One can't believe impossible things." "I dare say you haven't had much practice," said the queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." Best response of the thread!!! ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  17. Gee I just don't know John. I guess before tasers were invented security guards were all completely helpless First off I think that talking to the man for more than 2 minutes while backup arrived would have been a good start. He was evidently no where near an exit at the time so it wasn't as if he could have disappeared at any moment. Question to you John, do you really think that tasering a man holding a new born baby was an intelligent course of action? No less so than fighting a man holding a new born baby. Tough call. With the taser, you immediately incapacitate him and perhaps control his fall to protect the kid. In a physical struggle, the kid could easily be crushed. I know it takes a minimum four well trained individuals to safely restrain an out of control adult to keep him for hurting himself. How would you go about restraining someone in this situation? ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  18. Almost the exact situation when I was 14. I've always tried to remember what my Dad told me, "you don't do the right thing for the reward ..you do it because it's the right thing to do". ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".

  22. In Texas, they are Guilty of Murder and face the death penalty. That is why this person is going to be executed. That is the Law there. Perhaps you weren't paying attention, it's the law that is the center of the discussion. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
  23. You are right. I am sure the nonestremists in "North America, Canada, and Western Europe" feel a whole lot safer with what the US is causing in Iraq Goo! Cause they should
