Apparently I support someone named Mike Gravel. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".

Hence the reason why it does not "equal" happiness. But considering that Gates likely has few worries making a mortgage payment or dealing with the bare necessities of life, what are your thoughts? I'm thinking you're a lawyer and thus have no standing in the discussion of human emotions. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".

Really... and what massacre of parents and children sparked the Iranian hostage crisis? Beirut? Lockerbie? The Achile Lauro? I know that "blame America first" is the popular mantra of the day, but "it ain't necessarily so"... You're back with your lifetime mantra of it's OK if we do it because some other country did it first. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".

Should you have to provide a license to exercise a right?
jenfly00 replied to mnealtx's topic in Speakers Corner
Your argument is predicated on the premise that the Second Amendment guarantees the right to individual gun ownership ...it doesn't. I very much support regulated individual gun ownership. It simply is not a constitutional right. You "patriots" crap on the first and fourth, fifth, sixth and eighth amendments, yet wave your interpretation of the second like you actually understand and support what America stands for. What's up with that? ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it". -

I'd rather (we) not see or hear any of it and be able to shop in relative peace. At least it only took one reply for you to start insulting. Sure you want to have another go around? The last time we tried this you insulted me, took your ball and went home. Pretty simple really. Your dishonesty on the subject was distasteful, so I stopped responding. Is that your strategy? Present yourself as repugnant, people go away so you ...win? ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".

WTF? The crowd gathering would be the onlookers who should have otherwise been shopping, until this lady started going off. Evidently it was enough for an employee to go get the officer. It's not a very good idea to wait for something to become violent, before taking action. If that were the case we could be just like fireman, sit at the station and wait for something to happen. Sounds great to me, just go pick up the leftovers. Society expects us to prevent as well as stop crimes. The bottom line is if I was shopping at Best Buy with my four year old (which I did today btw), and somebody starts going ballistic over a dispute, I would want the situation taken care of. I don't want to hear some tool dropping the f-bomb and other things infront of my kid or any other, especially after the cops show-up. If this woman would have acted like an adult we would'nt be having this conversation. Again, my wife works in retail and she takes all kinds of verbal abuse and even sometimes threats. No one should have to put up with that, period. That is what the disorderly conduct statute is for, especially when the behavior happens infront of an officer, I expect them to do something about it. You would rather your kid witness violence than hear a word?!?!?!?! Were you toilet trained at gun point? ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".

Where did you get the idea that I blindly obey and conform? All I've been saying here is that we don't know everything that happened leading up to the tasering. Do YOu know what was said? Do YOU know what the issue with her credit card was? Do YOU know whether she threatened the cop or someone else? I have no idea whether it was justified, I wasn't there and there isn't nearly enough information available on the net to come to a conclusion. Doing so without having all the facts-ALL the facts- including what was said, is stupid. Is it as stupid as taking a strong position over something you have not seen? ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".

Father denied day parole after mercy killing
jenfly00 replied to Richards's topic in Speakers Corner
Agreed, but ... "Tracy was a 40-pound quadriplegic, a 12-year-old who functioned at the level of a three-month-old. She had been repeatedly operated on and at the time of her murder was due for more surgery, this time to remove a thigh bone. She could not walk, talk or feed herself, though she responded to affection and occasionally smiled. Tracy was in constant, excruciating pain yet, for reasons not entirely clear, could not be treated with a pain-killer stronger than Tylenol." ...when you add the above, how much 'meaning' would you suppose? Would you agree with the govt's position that "her life had value and quality"? My question was what medical alternatives were available to him since for reasons I don't understand only tylenol was used for pain control. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it". -

I agree with you. There is a difference between euthanasia when a person has a terminal illness and has reached the end of what can medically be done to ease their suffering and a person deciding it's "compassionate" to end a 12 y/o child's life because of a disability. Many people have pain. I don't think that pain makes their lives meaningless. Lots and lots of people live with pain every day and don't choose to end their own lives. Why would someone else have a right to end it for them. I agree that this guy's probably not a threat to society anymore. I don't think that his crime can be overlooked though. That's taking the concept of what might be acceptable euthanasia a bit far, imho. linz What more compassionate medical alternatives were available to him? ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it". -

I always thought the term "progressive" was complete BS anyway. What exactly are they progressing towards? Lately? Progressing away from bigotry and hatred wrapped in the American flag. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it". -

Faith in your beliefs, in the face of overwhelming evidence that you are wrong, is indeed a wonderful thing. I await your evidence There are none so blind as those that will not see. It must be very difficult continuing year after year to defend an administration that has been proven to lie to the Congress and the people, to have run roughshod over guaranteed rights, to have presided over record deficits, to have stood by while the value of the nation's currency drops into the gutter, to have started an immoral war under false pretenses that continues to drain American lives and treasure. I have to say I admire your tenacity even if your judgment is terrible. I suspect it becomes easier for him as his withdraws further and further inside a world than can only exist in his mind. As less and less reality gets in, the more confident he is in what he spews out. I used to disagree with his ideology, now I just wonder how he can believe what he just wrote makes sense. It's quite sad, actually. Your insult some one to shut them up tactic failed again Why would I expect you to shut up when my post explains why you cannot?!?!? My intention was to sum up a process most of us have observed for some years now in the faint hope you might ...get better. I sincerely apologize for any insult you interpreted. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".

Do YOU? fas·cism /ˈfæʃɪzəm/ –noun 1. (sometimes initial capital letter) a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism. Now, tell me where that DOES NOT apply to Hugo Chavez and what he is moving towards in Venezuela. Really, read just a little. Then compare to how close we REALLY are here in the US. Seriously, no crazy conspiracy crap. How close are we REALLY? fascist noun 1. an adherent of fascism or other right-wing authoritarian views "A form of political behavior marked by obsessive preoccupation with community decline, humiliation or victimhood and by compensatory cults of unity, energy and purity, in which a mass-based party of committed nationalist militants, working in uneasy but effective collaboration with traditional elites, abandons democratic liberties and pursues with redemptive violence and without ethical or legal restraints goals of internal cleansing and external expansion." [Robert O. Paxton, "The Anatomy of Fascism," 2004] Some have moved way down that road. I'm ashamed they call themselves Americans. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
