i dunnno if you read what i wrote, and obviosely this is a very personal topic with many people , and quite rightly so. I dunno if youre referring specifically to what iw rote, but i did write was fair in both tone and language. I DIDN'T MEAN TO OFFEND ANYONE, and honestryly i don;t think i did. IT wasn;t a post with an attack on anyone or any values . It was polite, but just giving a conflicting oppinion to what yourself and others heard. You might hate bush, as do many other people, probably the majority of the US do, but it is still important to respetc the supporters of him - i aint' even American - point being we have no influence on the campaign of what he does so you can;t really blame us (and if you are having a subtle go at me well im in england so have no infleucen whatsoever on the USA elections). Geez, i know things can get hot in here, but we can still discuss calmy. Sorry if ive taken yopur post the wrong way. Please don't hammer me for it, i meant no harm. If i was wrong in posting what i did, then ill gladly apologise for that. Im not arrogant and will readily admit when i am wrong. Thankyou, Mike

War is alwasy an emotional topic, and i do disagree. but ill remove it cos i dont; wanna cause any trouble. I fully respect your oppinion and your frustrations, Ignoring the fact that i do fully respect you and your oppinion would be unfair. I hope no offence was taken, but there was no intention of any. i do hope you see that. Anyway, point taken.

Tent City, Arizona - should prison really be this tough?

Fully agree. Im hope not going back on myself, and i dont think i am, but i agree with everything in your post. And yes it is a gamble, but worth a go if it works in some cases. -
lol im a pro-bushie, and therefore disagree. Its very easy for people in hindsight to say "well its not going great". They can probably see that. But what use is it? We are there now, so i would think it would be better to think of solutions rather than say the obvious + do the troops really need all the bickering going on at home, as if there job isnt stressful enough. + now they have to be more modest about their hopes, did you expect to achieve a lot or did you always think there would only be modets gains? The problem is now, the media have so much damn access that they report everything, so every casulaty is reported making it seem like a lot. There is no easy way to say this but in comparison with other campagins the Americans have done very well with little losses- 60,000 lost FIRST DAY of the Somme on the UK, in a smile battle aread, never mind 2,000 in IRAQ - = country. BY modern wars, it is helluva a lot, by older ones, it isn;t I mean. all the lives that have been lost are veyr upsetting and indded VERY VERY VERY trajic. but a lot more were lost elsewhere - vietmnam - 60,000. That is not meant to piss anyone off. it is just the fatcs. Please do not assume im trolling or stirring up shit. + this is not an attack AT ALL, if it comes across as one then im very sorry Just giving me 0.02

The paroll system - they go on paroll and you monitor them. But yes, it would be foolish to assume immediaetly that the paroll system would solve all problems, and it might be inneffective. But apart from general judgement and that system and similar ones thats the best we have, Can you think of any others? -

Mike111 replied to Newbie's topic in Speakers Corner
Im not including them in minor cases at all, cewrtainly not and i appreciate you feel strongly about it. But, i guess it would be fair to sya to have a flexible system - certain methods work on certain people depending on their psyhcology and character. Brute force for one, encouragement for the other -

I would personally place the society firts in order of protection, but still ensure the victin family were compensated. Agreed wie must protect society, but if you rehab a guy, society is protected and it is onn less future reoffender - less crimes, 1 less reoffender. Agreed though yes protetcion comes first, but i wouldn;t view it personally as people feeling good about themselves or view it as experimentation. just my 0.02 -
england drew. the Aussies , especially PONTING, played really well tho. well done Aussies!

Tent City, Arizona - should prison really be this tough?
Mike111 replied to Newbie's topic in Speakers Corner
Although the victim's life may be ruined, if it was a minor case, they to would recover in time - hnce why there needs to be thought into rehabilitation. But if there was a murder, the prisoner is in for life anyway, so rehab doesnt really matter cos they will die in jail anyway, thus justifying the fatc the victim relatives may never recover from it. just my 0.02 -

"When someone... them Around" - Unfortunately, thats one of the downsides which these people face. I feel sorry for them in some ways , because one stupid error they made can often ruin the rest of their life even if they only go to jail for a year or so. The two ideas you made about working hard but fairly and then being encouraged with more when they start to cooperate i think are really good. IMHO, its a really good balance between demonstrating the severity of the crime while also pointing a way out for the future. And, like you said, education is needed to curb the view that "prison is cool, im hard cos i went to prison etc etc" in young kids, although how this to be achieved i have no idea. Thanks, that was a really good, informative post. -
Tent City, Arizona - should prison really be this tough?
Mike111 replied to Newbie's topic in Speakers Corner
Agreed. But one reason they turn out better criminals is because they all learn from each other new tricks of the trade - they would do that anyway reardless of how severe or strict they were. Putting them all in Solitary could do the trick, but wouldn;t go down well with the old human rights. I agree you shouldn;t make them easy, they should be punished harshly yes. But excessive punishment doesn't do the trick. There needs to be a balance between the prsion on the article and the prisons of today. However that is eays to say and easy to say what should be done considering i don't have to do it, but thats my 0.02 again. -

Mike111 replied to Newbie's topic in Speakers Corner
But doesn't that often have the reverse effect/ Prisoners become so alienated from society that they go and reoffend again as no attempt to help them get back to a normal life AT the the same timne as punishing them has been made. Then they often go straight back to prison. Just my 0.02 -
Likwise.

Sure, there are some parts of our society who are asholes and has done terrible things - but that doesn't mean ALL Uk people are like that. There are people who are like that in every society. + what happaned years ago is hardly the fault of todays generation - we don't hold grudges again germany because it was hitler's lot that did it, not the generation of today.

. Why you seem to hate the english now is rather confusing... ... you might not like the attitude or the culture or the British people... ... but is that a reason to dislike them that? We have a veyr diverse culture... ... generally warm and welcoming people to tourists and immigrants and a very demoicratic society. That sounds pretty good to me.
