What is so evil about requiring id to vote?
Stumpy replied to Anvilbrother's topic in Speakers Corner
The tipping point for me would be if the voter fraud has the ability to affect the election result, then there needs to be something done. Currently, this does not appear to be the case however the measures being put forward to "combat" this fraud MAY WELL affect the election result, having a much larger affect than the problem itself. (Which, if you are honest with yourself you will admit. The GOP wins when turnout is low, the Dems win when turnout is high therefore it makes sense for the GOP to restrict turnout.) If you are going to do it, do it properly. Found this on a comment thread when reading up about this: 1. Federal elections should be under federal, not state, purview. 2. House Districts should be parsed by a federal civil service commission, not politicians. 3. All citizens should have a national ID based on either a state birth certificate delivered under seal or naturalization papers. They show the ID when they vote. Also - make it free, and make a real effort to help as many people as possible in all areas to get registered. Give it a couple of presidential terms to make sure there is plenty of time for those who have issues with documentation to sort things out. It probably only needs the constitution changed a couple of times but hey if it stops those handful of people committing voter fraud it'll be worth it - right? It appears you don't know the meaning of the words "statistically significant". But good to know you support increased government legislation and regulation where there is not a proven problem. Never try to eat more than you can lift -

Apart from your post not making any sense, if there was a genuine, statistically significant problem I am sure the GOP would have had a study commissioned by an independent body to prove it beyond doubt. Saying "you are hiding your head in the sand" is a conspiracy theorists tactic when they have no evidence of something. Seems appropriate. Never try to eat more than you can lift -

I suppose he isn't as protected when he speaks his mind. He isn't a good friend of te moderators, and doesn't share their political views. So when the rules are breached he doesn't get a pass like others. Ah so he got banned. I'm guessing self control issues wasn't too far from the mark then. Never try to eat more than you can lift

I think the Swiss get a lot of things right. Genuine question - are you aware how different Switzerland is to the US on just about every single social and economic indicator? They also have universal healthcare, and strong subsidies for those less fortunate which is exactly what the ACA is working to provide and the GOP is resisting. Arkansas gun range becomes the first to exclude Muslims
Stumpy replied to BillyVance's topic in Speakers Corner
this ^^^^ excellent - the key word "individuals". decision should be based on one's actions and impact on the business - not some irrational opinion based on stereotypes of a generalized group That sounds reasonable, but it doesn't allow for publicity. If I get bored enough, I may convert to Islam just so I can go visit her gun range and get away with it. Somehow I don't think they'll question the religion of a little white lady with a Texas accent. This is a good point. I strongly doubt she has banned Muslims unless she asks everyone coming in what religion they are. What she has probably banned is "people who look foreign". However I would love to be incorrect on this one. Never try to eat more than you can lift -
Its also EXACTLY like the movement of someone reaching in to a car to get their license, like happens thousands of times a day. No but he had a damn good try. Never try to eat more than you can lift

My godfather has one of those. It's awesome. One of these is in my future. Its not beautiful exactly, but it works for me. http://uk.caterhamcars.com/cars/supersport-0 For absolute lust though, I'd still go the Maclaren F1. Never try to eat more than you can lift

You are correct. They are trying to find something that isn't there. Reality IS a powerful foe. Or they are trying to find definitive proof of absolute incompetence and it is well covered by the Washington Two Step. Trying to find it and failing - because it isn't there, no matter how much the right would like it to be. Never try to eat more than you can lift

I'd be willing to bet he understands. Why don't you explain it to us? Well . . . he served in the military. Yep as did many of my good friends, and some of my family. (The skydiving scene in the UK is full of services guys and girls, particularly at a couple of the DZ's I used to go to, Weston and Netheravon.). I was curious about you choosing Prince Harry because he's somewhat of a special case. He's essentially a conscript - he's not forced to go into the forces but its "expected" of him. And back to the original point, he almost certainly wouldnt threaten to try and hospitalise someone for something they said either. Anyone doing that either a) has an anger management problem and is likely to end up in jail or badly hurt depending on who they rage against, or b) Is just flapping their gums on the internet. Either way, its dumb. Never try to eat more than you can lift
