Probably not. I read an interesting idea about how in any given population the number of crooks is relatively constant at around 10%. The difference is how people go about being a crook. So, for instance, when people have no opportunities to commit white collar crime, perhaps the crime tends to be committed through violence. Got a reference to that? I didn't say anything about the size of the issue at all. You should be careful with your reading. The police have a perception problem currently that they need to do something about. It doesn't matter whether there was one case of discrimination/racism/unlawful behaviour or 100,000 - the powers that be need to be shown to be doing something about it, rather than habitually exonerating people who are clearly in the wrong. The us vs them mentality is not helping anyone. That includes both the protestors (for want of a better word) and the kneejerk reaction of those like yourself that assume the police are in the right. Whether you like it or not, unless the police solve the perception problem things will continue to get worse. They need to "be the bigger man". Small point of order - the fact that there is sunk cost doesn't make them profitable overall, it just means that it doesn't make sense to stop production right now given that the ongoing extraction produces a margin. I've always thought when people label themselves "patriot" in this way, its analogous to countries labelling themselves "The Peoples Democratic republic of..."
