I must agree, we are getting exactly the government we asked for. Sometimes we even get what we demand, kind of sad sometimes. I once told myself I needed a new car, never considered the cost involved at the time, hard lesson to learn.

As are atheists. For most people, if you work at, say, the proverbial "Dunder Mifflin"-type office, and you're an atheist, you're best off keeping your mouth shut about it. I personally don't see a need in hiring atheist, because they bitch about everything.

Bill, I would think your total tax burden is a little more than 50% when you factor all other taxes you pay throughout the year. Now I don't believe I implied in any way that I would begrudge our military any portion of my income as a tax to support them. My point, if I ever truly got around to making one was the flippant way the poster expressed his williness to free himself of his imaginary money. My Money is my money. Its not nor as it every been Uncle Sams Money. Now my wife and I withhold 42% of every dollar we earn to cover our taxes. We currently don't pay a state income tax but we do pay county, school, MUD, utility, and sales taxes, hell there are probably more. I think at some point, Americans should have the right to say that this little pile of money is mine and you can't have any more. I don't know, maybe we can all act like a bunch of idiots and storm the streets like those in Europe and Burn our cities to the ground demanding more of someone else than of ourselves.

With an attitude like that, you will probably never be a millionaire or if you become one you won't be for long. Becoming a millionaire is quite achievable in the US given a long enough period of time (20-30 years). Spend less than what you make, protect what you own, don't give the government any more money that you have to. Now, if only a handful more DZ.COM members can muster the courage to be self reliant. His statement, "If I were a millionaire..." reminded me of a quote from Theodore Rossevelt, but I'll paraphrase, "A statement of intent is like a rifle, its usefulness depends upon the character of the user".

I'm all for getting richer as well. My family income as increased this year by about 15%, nothing wrong with working hard and making money. Hell my wife was able to bring on two more interpreters to our business. A win / win as they say, they are working and making money, and yes we are making money off their efforts. Well, it appears we are estimating the number of new un-employed filings. 472,000 new claims I believe was the latest data, which appears to have been estimated. I think the numbers were originally exspected to be above 500,000. But good news, is good news even if its trumped up, it makes us feel somewhat hopeful, well those of us that have jobs. From Bloomberg: "For the latest reporting week, nine states didn’t file claims data to the Labor Department in Washington because of the Labor Day holiday earlier this week, a department official told reporters. California and Virginia estimated their figures and the U.S. government estimated the other seven." Official data is now made up on the fly. This US economic data reporting has just entered the twilight zone. Also, when the data is officially made up, it is not that difficult to get data that is "better than expected." I think it would be worse to find out that it was intentional in some way. Obama was heard saying, "I want somebodies ASS!" He is expected to extend the Moratorium on oil drilling for another 6 months until he has time to get to the bottom of it. I was traveling in DC this past weekend and there seemed to be a large line of folks waiting to see the Lincoln Memorial.
