i did the south spur last summer, camping at the lunch counter (9000'). i've also hiked to looking glass lake and spent the night, and thenbush whacked five miles down the creek to a logging road. my next goal is to park on the south side and hike around to killeen creek meadows and traverse the north cleaver to south spur. mt hood is also a goal in the next couple of years, but i was under the impression that even the south side was more technical than adams. Sciences, yes? The science books for me is what is costing the most. $177 used for one text...and then add manuals and lab logs, and it gets to about $230 before I get the required ones. Not the recommended ones, the required ones. And the text is used. Glad to know others are feeling the pinch too...I am soooooo questioning my decision to change my life and go back to school. Sometimes I think "what kinda fool am I?????" Ciels- Michele my wife's books are science books, medical books in fact. i wish this thread had been brought up a couple weeks ago, i may have saved some money with all the resouces people have listed here. i'll have to dig this back up before summer session. i am fortunate though that i have the gi bill. i won't have to come out of pocket until summer of '08. skydive toledo has some great people. its not far off of i-5 but is only about 6 hours from vancouver (unless you try to get through seattle during rush hours). shoot them an email and let them know if you will be stopping and you will be taken care of. this is true of many other drop zones as well. likely you will meet some wonderful people who will gladly offer up their couch. just be careful of which offers you take. if you don't feel comfortable or something in your gut just doesn't feel right, politely decline and get a hotel. is adams harder than hood? while i wouldn't say that adams was easy, i was able to haul my fat ass to the top last summer. i haven't been abave mount hood meadows, but always thought that hood was a notch up from adams. if hood is in the same league as adams, i'm so there in august. no. they were very experienced and chose to do what they did because they wanted the challenge. no different than an experienced skydiver doing a more challenging skydive like a high performance landing or large formation or water jump. unfortunatly they have found one of the climbers dead in a snow cave. he is not my god and i don't believe in him. i'm happy for you that you have found something that works for you and i would never want to take that away from you. after about 3 years of internal struggle i have come to terms what i truly believe and have found something that works for me. as for where i'll be going when i die, it will be back to wherever i was before i was born, which is also the same place i go when i go to sleep.
