    sometimes kids need to be spanked. spankings aren't very effective with my oldest child, so he doesn't get many of them. they seem to be most effective as a quick swat on the butt on the way to a timeout, but if they were more effective than timeouts, then i would use them more. i was spanked with a switch as a child and went to my room many times with welts on the back of my legs. that will not happen to my child.     the only reason i have hbo is to watch the sopranos. of course you can't just get hbo, you have to pay for some big fucking package. it was a little annoying for half of season 6 to air and then nothing. where's the rest of it? i had heard that the rest of the season would air this january. they are schedualled to play reruns for the next couple of months so maybe they're leading up to it.     coming back from vegas a few months ago, the woman in front of me had only a couple liquid items all under 3 ounces, but she had them in a gallon size ziplock bag. the security guard was very snotty with her and gave her a huge ration of shit and then let her through. when i went through, i got my toothpaste tube confiscated because it was full size, although it was nearly empty.     my wife has travelled several times and the bill was due before getting reembersed every time. fortunatly we've had the money to pay it, but it still pisses me off. expenses can add up quickly, especially if there's a hotel and rental car involved and many people in the military don't have the extra money laying around. it's a very shiity position to put people in and it's a terrible idea. just because something is cheaper, doesn't make it better.
