  1. Well I true do feel your pain, It just SUCKS going from being a truely activetive preson to just almost dependant onother people. I have been exactly where you are. It may sound stupid but just don't let yourself get depressed or frustrated. Remind yourself it is ONLY temporary and for some real fun show up at the DZ and when all the Whuffos ask( and they all will) "Did you do that skydiving?" Answer them with a "No" followed by a different wild crazy story. Heal Soon and never pass a chance for pain meds..lol Kelly
  2. I'm actually pretty good at this.....been busted up and casted, slinted and operated on more time s that i care to remember...actually my Ortho Surgeon jokes that i put his kids thru college and paid for his house... #1...the new "Glad Press and Seal"(plasic wrap) works wonders around casts and irregularlly shaped objects like splints and seal up water tight for a shower...been there done that!!! #2 cooking...in the freezer isles look for already cooked full meals that you just heat up...not the ones in a box but in bags that you stir fry in pans for a few mins. They are easy, tasts pretty good and clean up is 1 or 2 dishes...plus for 1 person they are a good Dinner and Lunch the next day #3 clothes.......well i am a guy and a skydiver also so Iam obligated to instruct you to just not wear any clothes ever.....lol #4 Hair washing....the local pharmacies actually have a hair cleaning product that you can use that doesn't rinse out, you put it in, scrub it and then towel dry it out, no rinsing......otherwise the Kitchen sink with the rinse sprayer works great #5....again a guy thing...no books I have to suggest on-line porn surfing all day #6...Take TV back up, or get into on-line poker otherwise witout being able to drive and house bound for 24 hours will drive you insane...or you can take up excessive drinking and do 24 hour drunk dialing...
  3. I doubt the braided nylon causes the cloing loop to fail. More likely than not you had a very worn closing loop that needed to be replaced. Just as a helpful hint, you should always check your closing loop before every pack job.
  4. I figured they would move to Sullivan after the letter received by the city council about their plans for a flight school and how DZ's can ruin airport business....Funny that came from a competeing DZO....HMMMMMMM
  5. Any problems I find get pointed out to the rig owner and the person who either caused the problem or didn't do a good inspection and missed something. Most riggers are very appreciative if you point something out and thats as far as it needs to go. I did have one major problem found before, the reserve was on the slinks incorrectly and not just a couple lines crossed but very badly done. Pictures were taken and another rigger was consulted. When I called the rigger who had done the assembly and pack job he was totally irate on the phone, so I took the next step and sent a report and the pics. to Oklahoma City. My thought about doing that was riggers(assholes) like him are eventually going to kill someone so just report them and let the FAA take the action of pulling their ticket.
  6. As far as I know....Right now only a tandem course director can sign off for a tandem instructor. An I/E can sign off for any instructor or coach.
  7. After all the City of Quincy's crap, you would have to be crazy to go back there. I've been to the last 14 conventions and the last few years at Quincy you could tell the vibe was dead and it just never recovered. I don't know where to move it to or even just leaving it dead. There are several other large boogies now that have been taking over anyway.Maybe a joint effort would be more beneficial, join up with Lost Prairie or Couch Freaks or one of the other large boogies.
  8. I've found the quality to be about the same...I have both 20U, the older blue and newer tan color and really can not tell the difference. I use both alot, I just have one set at a wide zig zag and the other is set for straight stitch....I really think that the 20 U is the best all purpose machine out there
  9. That has to be the luckiest Tandem instructor alive! If your ever near St.Louis and feel the need to for whatever reason to do another tandem just look me up
  10. Thats Ok...we are all big boys and girls on this site. You go right ahead and post up
  11. Please,Please,Please tell me what DZ this is a regular event at...I would have no choice but to move there and make it my home DZ
  12. But not NEARLY enough...scenes like that should happen on at least a weekly basis
  13. try spraying your hands with anti perspirant before packing. That should help keep the sweating to a minimum.
  14. And what a picture perfect ass it is
  15. Wow....I need to get to KC more often!!!!! Very nice pic
  16. CPR changes basically every two years, there are newer standards, different emphasis points, different ratios ...When I started teaching CPR we taught 5 compressions and 4 quick breaths,, now todays standards are 30 compressions to 2 slow breaths and none of these changes are big public announcements. What it all comes down too is the AHA wants you to attend a course every two years the renew your skills and learn the newest updates. This thought process isn't just for CPR, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life support, Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support, ect ect. They all want or expect you to renew your certification.
  17. well if you want a mouth full of vomit then your doing the correct thing but otherwise the slow 2 second breath is the best method....but also watch the way they open the airway, if they are too timid with the head tilt then they may cause gastrict inflation that way.
  18. The AHA has unofficially allowed it's instructors to talk about compression only CPR for several years. Their stance was it was for someone to do just compressions rather than doing nothing at all because they were afraid of giving rescue breaths. Actually now the HUGE push in CPR is good uninterrupted compressions. They aren't as focused on the perfect long slow building breaths anymore. Now this is for lay person CPR like the Friends and Family class, Not for health care providers.
  19. That was my interpetation of AC105-2C also. It seemed pretty clear that you had to get permission from the FSDO for an alteration, but after talking to SunPath their stance was a Master rigger could remove any compentent of the RSL(as long as he properly documented it) because they had already received FAA approval for the system with and without an RSL. I think this whole deal is just going to turn out to be a huge mess and pain in the butt. It leaves all the field riggers in a grey area when the FAA says one thing and the Manufacturer says another.
  20. I just got off the phone with Dave Singer from SunPath to get clarification on this issue. What I was told by him is this is not a SunPath issue but an issue with AC105-2C. The question of Alteration and modification is alittle unclear. His stance was that removing any component of the RSL system is a alteration. Basically there are 2 approved Javelin configurations on file with the FAA. Javelins produced in 1989 and earlier(Before RSL) and Javelins produced after 1989(RSL installed). By removing a RSL component you are altering the newer FAA approved system to match the older FAA approved system. He stated that because the paperwork is already on file with the FAA for a Javelin without an RSL then nothing other than a master riggers signature is needed. Now if a master rigger wanted to modify an existing FAA approved system say for example add dive loops to reserve risers then FAA or manufacturer approval would be needed and the proper paperwork would have to be filed. This holds true for any container out there not just the Javelin. Hope this helps clear things up, I know after talking to Dave it cleared up things for me.
  21. I have been trying to get ahold of Rigging Innovations for a few days now and no one answers the phone. I have been using (520)466-2655 and no one answers and there is no answering machine message either. Does anyone know if the number has changed or what is going on with them.
  22. you can always call the pope and ask for a Dispensation and let you eat your steak....for me the great thing about being catholic is I can break all the rules and as long as I go to confession I'm cleared
  23. The left side(reserve handle side)
  24. If they fit then you should be fine and your rigger is absolutely right in that they will last longer.
  25. After reading all these posts there is a simple answer. An enterprising rigger could schedule basic rigging classes. Go over basic inspections, gear functions, assemble mains, replace pilot chutes and toggle..ect, ect. Basically how to maintain your main canopy. They charge a fee for the class that way they aren't losing $$ by not doing those minimal tasks and ultimately making the sport much safer by education people about the equipment they use to save their lives.
