No problem. man. Philly is one of the very last places I'd like to ride. Easy Does It

(Please note- This is not a personal jab, attack, or anything like that!) [Dennis Leary mode] That's why I get really defensive when I get on the bike - As soon as I'm in the saddle, I automatically assume everyone in a car/truck/suv/whatever is an asshole hellbent on running my ass over. I love these cagers that say "I didn't see him". My bike weighs 500 pounds, and I'm another 180. That's damn near seven hundred pounds of mass, sparky!! How can you miss that? Maybe if these folks would get the damn cellphone out of thier ear, put down the Times, or whatever they're reading when they're supposed to be watching the road, and remember how to use a frigging turn signal once in a while, folks like me wouldn't have to worry about becoming a hood oranment on some yuppies' Land Rover. I like loud pipes because they're just that - Loud. I don't wear a helmet, either. Don't like 'em, and I don't like people who try to protect me from myself. [/Dennis Leary mode] Gee- That was fun! I am now content with the sound of my Harley. I put a pair Screaming Eagle II slip-ons on last year, and while it was louder, and performance was OK, I took the advice of a friend who works for Harley in Milwaukee - "knock the baffles clean out." So I did. Drilled out the one pop rivet, and out they came. Nice and loud. Nice crackling when I let off the throttle without backfiring, or that nasty growling like with an S&S carb and straight pipes. And she doesn't hesitate or spit back through the carb like she used to. The great part is, I set car alarms off in parking lots all the time now! SWEET!!!! Easy Does It

Racer - DOM '95- Reserve pin protection is great- Make sure your rigger gets the pop top nice and flush, to reduce line snag hazards. Main pin protection is mediocre by todays' standards - The main reason I don't freefly yet. Won't buy another one unless they make some major changes to protect the main pin. Nice and comfy otherwise, inspite that I bought it secondhand. It's all black. Next rig I buy will be yellow w/ purple tye-dye. Next rig will be one of three - Vector, Javelin or Wings. Easy Does It

Does skydiving affect your view on mortality?
Dumpster replied to weezil1's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Some whuffo told me all skydivers are suicidal - First I asked him where he got his info from - I want to know who did the clinical study, and find out what else makes us "tick". (he really stumbled when I called him on that-) Then I told, if we were suicidal, there's be alolt more dead jumpers. Actually, we are quite the opposite! Easy Does It -
pack yourself or getting packed
Dumpster replied to feuergnom's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Same here! Once in a while I don't feel like packing, - Or at meets where there isn't much time to dirt dive, much less pack between loads. But on "normal" jump days, I pack myself. But I usually do an extra-careful check of my main bridle and pin when I don't pack myself. On the other hand, I am appalled by the number of newbies I see that "learned" how to pack, but will stand around waiting for a packer to come available and miss loads for it. WTF? Easy Does It -

[:)] New skills / What you would like to learn how to do...
Dumpster replied to airann's topic in The Bonfire
A big part of my job is welding- It's a matter of getting some instruction then lots of practice. Welding something like coat hangers could be tricky, not for the size but the metalugy is usually on the poor side, so (as mentioned earlier) something like that would be better off brazed or soldered (described as "gluing" operations since the metal isn't actually fused.) There are several different basic types of welding, and lots of cool things you can do with different metals. It really offers alot to your creative side! I seldom get artistic, but just building what I need too excerises my creativity muscle pretty good. I would look at some of the local trade/technical schools for evening classes, and maybe try to find a local welding shop that may let you practice in exchange for some work or whatever down the road. It's a skill that can earn you a pretty decent paycheck if you're good, particularly if have a knack for tricky stuff like aluminum and cast iron. Myself, I'd like to learn to land my canopy a bit more accurately. I can land where I want to, but not dead-nuts-on yet. And I'd like to get into machining work. Easy Does It -

I had mine done in '91, after my son was born - The doc gave me some really good drugs and I walked out of the hospital with a really sweet buzz going- Unfortunately it didn't last long - Codiene quickly become a close friend for a dat or two or so, then a bit of a dull ache for about a week - After that it was no heavy lifting for a few more weeks then back to business as usual - Sex drive was back to 100%, and even better after the follow-up sperm count. (No swimmers! WooHoo!) With no worries about BC, it was great! Easy Does It

Marriage coming close to hitting Critical Mass--
Dumpster replied to Dumpster's topic in The Bonfire
Time for me to dump big time on my fellow DZ.commers here- And "THANKS" in advance to all skydivers in general for being such cool people! The wife tells me I've become a totally different person since I've started jumping - (3 years ago, and this season has been my best as far as frequency goes- On a 4-way team and averaging 5-10 jumps a week) Her major complaint (as I perceive it-) is that I eat, sleep, and think nothing but skydiving all the time. According to her she and I have very little in common anymore. (I still have a monster sex drive, but don't get to share it with her, she says hers has dwindled. Hers used to be really strong, too- She is also 7 years my senior - I am 40 ) I can't remember what the "old Lenny" (pre-skydiving-) was like- I wonder what I/we did on Saturdays before this- other than sleeping off hangovers and working. I ask her what she plans on doing Satuday and she says - "clean house" So I go to the DZ, after making sure all my house chores are done during the week. I try to share what we do, and how cool it is, and try to get her to come to the DZ but to no avail. I feel like she doesn't even want to try to dig it. If she does come to a DZ she sits and is anti-social. We now have my 16 year old daughter living with us, who absolutely loves the sport, even though she has yet to make a single jump. She is learning how to pack for our RW teams. I would love to keep the marriage together, but I don't want to be one of those guys who quit jumping because of his wife/ girlfriend. If I ever quit it will be due to medical reasons or old age, whatever that is. I will admit to having what may be a bit of an obsessive personality. I rarely do anything halfway. I really don't want to go through the pain of another divorce, but at least there won't be kids involved this time. I thank her all the time for allowing me to indulge myself, and I find ways to pay for my jumping so we won't burden our finances. The house keeps getting colder all the time in spite of what I try to do to compensate - Flowers for no reason, I even had a masseur come to the house by surprise just for her. Now this may be the death knell- We have a date to see a marriage counselor. - Everyone I've talked to who has gone to one has wound up getting divorced. I don't plan on giving up skydiving, wether we stay together or not- If this marriage totally funnels and we cut away, I hope I get a decent reserve ride- Either way, I know I've got some cool people to fall back on. Sorry for the long post - but I just had to get it off my chest - I know this sport has split up a number of relationships - Ours won't be the first, or the last. Now I'm off to do some shopping with my daughter Sarah- And we're headed to the DZ in the morning!! Thanks and Blues! to everyone! -Lenny Easy Does It -
Depends on which rigger you use (there are 3 or 4 available to us here-) and what flavor rig you own (Some charge more for a Racer, etc-) Mine charges 55 bones to repack my Racer, and I get a very thorough inspection of pretty much the entire rig. He's done a few minor repairs for me, too, usually free of charge, or cheap (replacing my riser velcro for like, 5 bucks or something-) Some charge as little as 35.00 for a repack. I like the guy I use, and he's done 90% of the repacks on this rig, even when the previous owner had it. I also like using the same rigger, so they're able to get used to seeing your stuff. News- My 16 year old daughter Sarah is living with us full-time now, and is quickly learning how to pack. (She'll be practicing with my Racer all week-) Can't wait for her 18th birthday and her first jump. I've been told by many folks at the DZ to lock her up - She's too cute to hanging around DZ trash like us! Easy Does It

I've been wearing contacts for about 15 or so years, and jumping with them has been no problem - Wear a decent pair of goggles, and you're fine. Full face helmets present no problem. I open mine (Z-1) under canopy all the time with no ill effects. Might want to bring a bottle of rewetting drops, though. I ususally keep a bottle in my gear bag. You'll love it. Easy Does It
