pre skydiving (aka 7 AM in Manifest) the DZO usually brings all us early morning office people a big 24 oz coffee, I'll usually eat a cheese and tomato bagel melt too. Then I usually get so busy I don't eat until after sunset load, which means pizza (cuz it's free) on Sat and Sushi ideally on Sunday. mmm sushi... Stacy http://astro.temple.edu/~sweeks

I dont' have any personally, but I'd like to see some (love to see the downplane image if you still have it)... I watched a dual canopy-out incidentt his summer, luckily the lines were clear of each other and the guy was safely able to chop the main. Saw a vid of one of our instructors with 3 canopies (2 out and a chopped one from a CRW entanglement) all partially inflated and he landed it, walked away with maybe a scratch if anything. Would love to see accounts of this type of mal as I'm really interested in doing more CRW. blues... Stacy http://astro.temple.edu/~sweeks

I don't understand what you mean by -28 ft2, etc... I'm guessing that's some sort of wing loading reference. This is what I did: Student jumps were on a 235 PD. I then started using a 230 Silhouette, then 210 Silhouette, 190 Sabre, 170 Sabre. I tried out a 160 Triathlon as well but didn't like it much so I went back to the Sabre. THese were all rental rigs from the DZ on my first 50 jumps. It might seem like a lot of downsizing for only 50 jumps, but all 50 were in the time span of about 30 days which kind of makes a difference. My thought was if I can land it comfortabley in any condition (down winders even) then it's prolly OK to downsize. THen buying gear comes into teh picture and it's based on cost efficiency too. My first canopy was a Falcon 175. It was affordable to me and it was a really safe first canopy, esp since I was packing it all the time. Easy to pack. a 175 ZP canopy may not have fit in my J2 as nicely. At about 115 jumps I wanted to start having more fun under canopy (the was about a month in a half after buying the first canopy, 3 months into the sport). I demoed a spectre, safire, crossfire (conservatively loaded @ about 1.2).. bought a spectre 150. This is a canopy I can see myself with for at least another 200 jumps. Then again, who knows if I'll be jumping more than I did last season, etc. That said, I recommend the incremental stages. Not buying a new canopy every 10 feet per se, but maybe try a demo program. SOme gear stores have them (Square 1,2,3 do I know) where you put money down towards a canopy and can demo sizes, etc for as long as you like basically. Call manufacturers and try stuff. PD and Icarus are great with demoing canopies. Hope this helps! Blues! Stacy http://astro.temple.edu/~sweeks

I have to say that for an RW suit I recommend Bev, hands down. She did a lot of custom stuff for me and I would estimate that 80% or more of RW suits at my DZ are by Bev due to high recommendations. She does a lot of stuff for teams and is pretty good at doing anything to customize. For Freefly stuff, Firefly definitely kicks a@@!! They take a bit longer than others to order and receive from what I've seen, but they were flawless! Exactly what I wanted. THey will basically create anything you can design, within reason or not! I'd like to see one of their RW suits since they are making them now... Stacy http://astro.temple.edu/~sweeks

My story is kinda similar. My best friend from high school and I were watching Road Rules and teh cast did tandems. He mentioned that it would be fun to try skydiving. I said that I woudl do it if he did, and about 5 minutes later we were on teh net looking for a DZ. We started reading this stuff about teh AFF prgoram where you could do a first jump with your own rig and i told him that if he was making MY rear end jump out of a plane I was damned sight gonna do it on my own, might as well go the whole 9 yards. I was petrified and hoped that this would scare him away from the idea. Nope. He signed us both up for ground school on my 20th BD. Funny thing, he ended up being one of the "paralyzed in fear" students that tehy had to pull for and hope for the best. and how far in debt am I because of this? Something's not fair. =c) I ended up going back for a Level II that month, then returned to school. Started back up at a DZ near school (Cross Keys, my first DZ was in Ocean City Maryland) and graduated within a month. That was late June and now I'm getting ready for my 200th and D license 9 months later. Go figger. Stacy http://astro.temple.edu/~sweeks

Hey! I did a few jumps with Skydive U right after finishing AFF. Really helped to pound out that arch into a neutral box position, also teaches you more about flat tracks, pivot point turns and level control. When I did it it didn't so much emphasize canopy skills. Did the wind tunnel in Orlando as well with coaches. WHAT an experience. I would recommend that to anyone, but definitely take in a coach. It's not as easy as it looks to stay stable in there and really makes you think about every little aspect of your flying. It's a great place to practice verticals as well. Hope this helps you out a little!! Blues! Stacy http://astro.temple.edu/~sweeks

are you insinuating that I fall a lot? =c) I have no problem with dancing on the Tiki Bar. Hell, every time I spin the Wheel of Debauchery it lands on Bar Dance anyway, so what's the difference??!! Stacy http://astro.temple.edu/~sweeks
