  1. This was my first year training as vidiot with a 4way team and competing at Nationals. I built a camera helmet with two Gopro 3+s on the front. Started with my primary on 1080p on medium and back up on wide. I do jump with wings and have some range where I want to fly. After a few training weekends, changed the settings to narrow and medium as back up. And fly a tiny bit higher. It provides a nice full image on the screen for debriefs. I have a ringsite and having that to aim the helmet also helps with the narrow FOV. The one place that it is more of a challenge is exits. If you lead, you have to nail the exit. If the team starts turning points on the hill and your timing is off, you can easily have a bust. Since you don't have wings, I would suggest you peel or trail on exit. You will be above the formation from the beginning and the narrower FOV will be fine. Most importantly, have fun. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. You know you want to spank it Jump an Infinity
  2. A word of warning, The Pilot will pack bigger than the Sabre2. A ZPX version Pilot will pack about the same size as the Sabre2. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. You know you want to spank it Jump an Infinity
  3. The portable Sailrite machines are powerful for their size and the LSZ-1 is a walking foot zigzag. Add the monster power wheel and it can do heavy work. They do have a good foot lift clearance. The only complaints I have heard are they have a shorter underarm distance needle to body and no leg lift of presser foot. They are small so can be carried aboard boats for sail repair. For the price, I would go with the used Pfaff, Bernina or Singer, in that order. I was able to find one of each model listed for under $400. Just takes patience and watching Craigslist and newspaper ads to find them. They can be found in your neck of the woods. I got a Pfaff from up there and had it shipped down. 50 donations so far. 4. Keith, I'd say go with a 30" ZP or 32" F-111 PC. Bridle length is the new argument. I think 9' is fine. Others like Lurch had deployment issues when going to the mega suit and the longer bridle seemed to fix it. The longer the bridle, there is more material dancing around that can get looped around the handle of the PC. For that matter, suggest a PVC tube for handle with ends either taped/corked/stuffed with light foam so a finger won't get stuck. If you prefer a hackey, it should be as small and light weight as possible attached tight against fabric of PC. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. You know you want to spank it Jump an Infinity
  5. I have had the 20U. Good starter machine. I have a Pfaff 138. Better starter machine. It doesn't have as wide a zigzag or as high a foot lift compared to the Singer, but does a more consistent stitch and you don't have to work so hard to keep the thread tension adjusted. Also look at the Bernina(Chandler) 217. It has stitch widths up to 12mm. And if you can find one with the cam drive attachment, you can do a 308 stitch as well. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. 12. Strong machine. Built like a tank. Big bobbin so plenty of working time between bobbin changes. IIRC, 9/16" foot lift for thicker projects. Only negative is when it needs parts, more expensive than old school singer. If you keep it oiled and keep it free from lint, should last a long time. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. 18. Not knowing your current canopy experience will give a starting point. If you are intending to go the PD route of canopies, start on a Sabre2 of appropriate size. It has a neutral recovery arc(not steep, not flat) and if you work it, the sucker will swoop pretty nice. Then the transition is to Katana and then Velocity. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. 19. A Pilot has a very flat glide. The Storm in comparison will fall out of the sky. It has a much steeper glide. The Storm will have a nice flare from top of toggle stoke to the bottom. I have found the Pilot has a weak reaction in the toggle stroke at the top, but becomes stronger as you flare and a powerful flare in deep stroke. If you don't finish your flare deeply on the Pilot, your landing will suck. I have long arms so not a problem, but for folks with short arms, I don't suggest the Pilot. YMMV If you like the flat glide of the Pilot but want a better flare, look at the Nitron. Ask your local canopy coaches/instructors if it might be something for you to try. At a 170, it would be more sporty than a Pilot, at a 150, it would be zippy. At your jump number/experience, I would suggest sporty before zippy. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. 20. A "normal" tripod screw to fit the bottom of most cameras is 1/4"-20. Here is something a bit closer than Cookie. 5/8" Knurled thumb screw 1" knurled thumb screw If you order the longer one you can always cut it shorter. Cutting stainless isn't easy though. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. You know you want to spank it Jump an Infinity
  21. Using the idea that learning to flare your canopy as being the metric as when to downsize would be the same as learning to stop your car before going to a faster car. Wrong concept. I was jumping a canopy at 1.17 at 38 jumps and standing them up. I still had lots to learn under that canopy. Should I have downsized to a smaller canopy because my jumpsuit stayed clean. Learn how to fly your canopy before downsizing is the test to use. A stand up landing is not a good measure of skills learned. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. 24. The machine only has a single bobbin, so not a true double needle. Often referred to as twin needle. The single hook catches both threads on the underside and has a zigzag appearance. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. You know you want to spank it Jump an Infinity
