GoPro Hero4 for professional tandem video?
monkycndo replied to BeauRiebe's topic in Photography and Video
If you take out another jumper, that goes down as two dead jumpers. People think we are crazy and no big deal. We know the risks. You take out a TI and a paying passenger, all hell will break loose and anyone involved with the DZ including the DZ dog will be sued by the Pax family for wrongful death/negligence. 50 donations so far. How to know when its time to downsize
monkycndo replied to Brad2's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
When people ask if they should downsize, I compare it to going to a restaurant that doesn't post the prices of the food. If you have to ask, you can't afford to eat there and following that thought, if you have to ask if you should, you shouldn't downsize. There are bazillions of threads on here about skills you should have before you consider downsizing. First thing you should answer to yourself, why do you want to. And it shouldn't be because it is cool, you want a smaller rig or everyone else does it. Regarding the Crossfire, other than the person wanting to sell it to you, doubt anyone would suggest that canopy type at your jump number. When I started, you had to have 500 jumps to even demo the canopy. And a good rule of thumb for wingloading. Stay at or below 1.0:1 for first 100 jumps, then add 0.1 for each 100 after that. Edited to add, going below a 150sf canopy no matter the wingloading puts the jumper in the high performance range by size alone. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. Forget trying to sew the shoulder straps. Find an old backpack with good shoulder straps. Cut the straps off and sew them into your gear bag. A lot of bigger rolling gear bags have the shoulder straps in a zippered compartment on the bottom of the bag. I have never used them in the 10 years of jumping. But when I want some shoulder straps for a project, know right where to find a set. As a sewing project, I am considering making a version of a rig sleeve to completely cover my rig while traveling by air. Having it as small as possible to fit under the airline seat is necessary. I have a huge roll of cordura, so material cost is minor. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. You know you want to spank it Jump an Infinity

GoPro Hero4 for professional tandem video?

Thats BS. I always do it, and there is no reason why it would be a bad idea. Premature deployment on your main or reserve. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. You know you want to spank it Jump an Infinity -
If you are doing it as a sewing project, reverse engineer a bag you like. Then start sewing. If you want to do it to save money, fuggetaboutit. I picked up a good used, simple one compartment backpack that holds my rig and logbook, and maybe a wingsuit shoved in. Cost me 5 bucks at the flea market. The zipper and fabric alone would have cost me that much, let alone all the time to sew it. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. You know you want to spank it Jump an Infinity

One thing to consider about the Pulse. As you get closer to a WL of 1.4, the flare power diminishes. I would suggest another canopy instead. If you like your Safire, stick with it. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. You know you want to spank it Jump an Infinity

Yvan, the problem is, most people think they are above average. Kind of impossible. Finding out where one falls on the bell curve takes some time. So starting out expecting everyone is on the left side of the curve hopefully prevents those that are from injuring themselves. The fact you are asking these questions is a good sign. When starting to skydive, there is so much that you don't know that you don't know. There are quite a few people on here that pushed the limits on canopies and got away with it. They will also tell you they were damn lucky. There are also folks that pushed and got bit. Here is a thread about Sangi, only jumping a WL of 1.2. If you read threads by/about him, he felt he was above average until the ground told him otherwise. Taking your time to learn to fly what might feel like a tug boat will build skills that will translate to smaller canopies. Jumping a smaller canopy where you will be OK "if you fly it conservatively" can lead you to injury when you get cut off in the landing pattern and have to make an evasive maneuver. A hard toggle turn on a boat will turn you. A hard toggle turn on a heavier loaded zippy canopy could turn you into the ground. Natural ability only goes so far, then experience has to kick in. The only problem is, it takes experience to know where that is. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. You know you want to spank it Jump an Infinity

The center/centre cell takes the abuse from packing, so has more wear than the rest of the canopy. Full cell topskin replacement is neither uncommon or common. It takes a fair bit of work. If the rest of the canopy is in good shape, the cost to replace the center cell would be worth it. Have your rigger give it a good inspection. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. Everyone will tell you to buy the same rig they own. Why else would they have bought it. Size depends on your weight. Canopy type depends on do you like a 7 cell or 9 cell. Always try to demo before you buy. Most will tell you unless you are an outside the norm, very tall/very short/super skinny/BIG BOY, buy used because your landing skills may not be the best, so why get your shiney new rig all dirty. Also, new gear takes a big hit on depreciation. Save some money and buy used. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. You know you want to spank it Jump an Infinity

Spendy little buggers aren't they? A good used Singer 132K6 will go for about $1200; if you can find one. Then you will probably have to put a few bucks into it for odds & ends. Jerry Baumchen I have found 3 so far. All were demilled navy sewing machines with little wear. One has been sold. One is sitting in my garage, and one is set up for use. Really like how smooth it sews. What have you done/added to your machine? 50 donations so far. Give it a try. You know you want to spank it Jump an Infinity

This is what they go for new. The Consew SK-6F and Singer 132-K6 are the exact same machine. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. You know you want to spank it Jump an Infinity

I hate the two of you for the deals you found. I had to pay a bit more for my Consew SK-6F(clone of the 132-K6). Been using it lately to repair the covers for the exercise blocks at my gym. Love the machine. Terry, $1400 for a 1900, . 50 donations so far. Give it a try. You know you want to spank it Jump an Infinity

The DC3 is not an ideal WS plane. It is fine for small flocks. The door is on the smaller side if you are used to an Otter. It isn't bad if you are used to a KA. But it is not unsafe. My most memorable jump out of it was the New Years eve midnight jump. It was number 666. As long as exit and keep your wings closed until you see the horizontal stabilizer, the tail is far enough back. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. You know you want to spank it Jump an Infinity
