  1. Well, that's certainly a new take on the situation. There are tens of thousands of kids and young teenagers who go through tough times; definitely tougher than this kid getting a step mom. They deal with it without murdering someone. Concealing the gun in a blanket shows he knew it was wrong. Intentionally blowing the woman's head off, attempting to get rid of the shell, and the running off to school, again shows he knew what he was doing. I absolutely put a lot of blame on the father. At the very least he should've kept the guns locked up. However, and a big however, absolving the kid from all blame is wrong and claiming he isn't dangerous is just flat out rediculous. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  2. What does that have to do with the banks charging fees? All the banks are Republican and all the jobless are Democrats? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  3. It's not supposed to entice long term spending. The biggest chance it has of working is due to it being too small to be noticed, thus not changing spending habit from ~100% of income. The less likely that the extra money be noticed, the more likely it is to be spent immediately. The higher proportion that it is spent immediately, the more bang for the buck in terms of economic growth. The increased duration, as opposed to a single check, increases the chances of the growth being a trend instead of a short term spike. So, just to be clear, your argument is that an unnoticeably small increase in cash for the average American is the best answer for stimulating the economy? People will accidentally spend more because they have $8 a week extra? I never said it was best for the economy. I said it was better than a single large check. You also said it's not supposed to entice long term spending. If you believe that then what's the difference between the two? The reason the lump check didn't work last year is because people put it towards debt or savings. They knew it wasn't enought to count on so they didn't increase spending. These minimal tax cuts do the same things. People don't recognize they've gained $16 per pay check so they'll have no reason to increase their spending. It won't have any effect on boosting spending or the economy. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  4. The cartoon was a satire of two news articles; the rediculous stimulus bill and the chimp who was actually shot to death last week. Has no one heard the express, "you could train a monkey to do that" or "even a monkey could ______?" The sitmulus is such a joke that "even a monkey could've written it." It just so happens a chimp (not a monkey, but that's a different topic) was shot and is making big headlines. I never in a thousand years would've made the connection between that cartoon and racism towards the President without the idiots picketing and the media pointing it out. It's a stupid excuse for Al Sharpton and company to try and stay in the lime light. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  5. Agreed. This thread back fired pretty quickly. Edited: After watching that again, it's fuckin rediculous. He made a complete ass of himself. "GM helped create the middle class in this country.... We've lost something like 2.3 million jobs to China because of the unfair trade." It couldn't possibly be because of wages and benefits demanded by the UAW, right? Dick. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

  7. Had they worked, then why is there still need for more stimulus? If the current tax cuts prove to be helpful, it will likely be due to the fact that the money is spent continually instead of in a single shot. They didn't work. I was being sarcastic. The second part is basically true. An upturn in the economy will be due to sustained increased spending, not a spike in income due to a stimulus check. The tax cuts in this bill won't provide longterm increased spending. It's $32 a month. That won't entice anyone to make longterm spending commitments. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  8. "We" as in the American people who voted for him. "We" as in the people he told his administration would be different. If Tank was saying that six months ago then he was damn sure right. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  9. A classic Republican who called for the investigation herself. As opposed to the classic Democrat who will sit in front of a Congressional committee and try to explain why it's everyone else's fault. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  10. Your arguments have really gone downhill. The tax cut in this bill is rediculous. $8 a week. Really? The small business tax cuts were dropped from $64B to $4B. On the plus side, Amtrak will be set for a while. Let's say you break your arm (God forbid) and someone puts a Hello Kitty band-aid on it. You get pissed. Then someone says, "Why are you suddenly against medical care?" See where I'm going with that? It has nothing to do with who's porking it away. The tax cut is shit and not even close to something that may work. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  11. The spending need not be long term to stimulate the economy. To stimulate the economy, the money only needs to be spent. Ah, so that's why Bush's stimulus checks worked. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  12. Are you claiming that a $676 annual tax reduction is insignificant? In terms of stimulating the economy? Yes. That number is pretty optomistic considering it drops to $8 starting in January. What additional long term spending do you feel comfortable doing with an extra $416 a year? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  13. Do you realize the actual magnitude of the tax cuts you keep trying to throw in people's faces? $13 a week for the next year. Then it drops to $8. Good luck convincing people to buy a house or car on $32 a month. The small business tax break was raped from $64B down to about $4B before the bill was signed. Pick a new argument. Edited: I posted before I saw the last two people pointing out the same thing. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  14. Well said. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  15. Right, so ignore the part where she asked for the investigation and is now repaying the money. I'm fairly confident... no, I'm certain, I said "I'm not defending anyone." I am juse amused by the knee-jerk reaction to attack conservatives as a defense for anything a democrat does. How much ranting and TALKING IN CAPS have you done regarding the growing list of dems who didn't admit to fucking up their taxes until after they were caught? I think Palin was wrong. I also think these attempts to pawn off blame and point fingers is sad, but typical. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  16. Annoyed? Really? Because according to the original article, the investigation was at her own request. "At the Governor's request, we reviewed the situation to determine whether we were in full compliance with the pertinent Internal Revenue Service regulations," Kreitzer wrote. "As a result of this review, we determined that per diem needs to be treated as income, requiring a revision of W-2 forms for any affected employees." I'm not defending anything. I just think you should get your facts straight before preaching and bitching. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  17. It's in the stimulus package. That would mean it's being sold as stimulus. President Obama is actually the one who said that, almost word for word. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  18. Vinny..where was all that RIGHTeous indignation for the last 8 years when YOUR hero was spending your childrens futures and DOUBLING the national debt. Oh thatsa right he was spending it all on you and the things you find acceptable. I seem to remember your support for Bush revamping Social Security into the Stock Market..... boy.. that would have turned out good considering where the markets are now. BDIF Bill? Bill?? Ah yes incapable of any cogent answer.... so how about it... why no bitching when YOUR rubber stamp rePUBICan congress was raiding.. our treasury for 5 TRILLION dollars??? I wasn't active on this board back then. How's that? I'm not sure if anyone's told you, but Bush isn't President anymore. Bush's debt doesn't make it ok for the next President to do the same. Something about change... I don't really remember. It wasn't repeated enough to make an impression, I guess. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  19. Polar ice breakers break ice. Amtrak takes people from one place to another. Abandoned cole mines are... abandoned. Explain how any one of those is so stimulative that it needs to immediately be passed or the country will fail. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  20. This statement gets funnier every day. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

  22. Agreed. I've been in Circuit City twice to try and grab a good deal. Even after their price cuts, Best Buy was still cheaper. No wonder they're going out of business. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  23. I think these two statements go well together seeing as how Truman left office with a 22% approval rating (according to that article). He's now 7th on that list. Anyone read what Bush's final approval rating was? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  24. The relevance is that it appeals to FoxNews & its audience. Or perhaps a transgender person married to man who she then killed isn't considered "normal" by most. Just a thought. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  25. Trivia Without Googling.... who was the killer in the first Friday the 13th movie? Winner gets to rewrite the stimulus. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
