Ever thought about researching how much per household for the friends of W? I bet that would be millions per household.... where was all thisfiscal angst and coutcry from the rabid right when they were enriching themselves with your tax dollars. example plz- where rich people were given tax dollars for personal use. 2. again, the main point of my post is that the government officials have no working knowledge of the business world, how is it that they can stand on their high horses and dictate policy that disrupts the biggest contributors to our regular economic process? We could go on and on about the taxes, of which 10% sales and 10% income is RIDICULOUS for a state to collect... but i'm curious to your opinion on what i previously stated. So there I was... 3. focus on cuts, that's what the rest of the country in the real world is doing. the real point of my post is where do state and federal lawmakers get off telling businesses what to do, when the only skillset they know how to use to fix a problem is force all of us to pay. If they don't know anything about a topic, stay out! I understand if they have an interest in a company from the bail outs, just as any stockholder would. But everyone else? i guess it is like this- i understand why my boss tells me to do something- he has experience and the know-how to make things work, where do these professional vote-generators get their justification? So there I was... Making friends and playing nice since 1983
  4. In SFO as of April first sales tax is INCREASING to 9.5%, or 1-1.5% state wide. It is said to generate a few $billion more for the state (duh). This is coming from the governator i believe, who i do like, however this is a prime example of why politicians cant get their hands into business- all they know is tax, spend, cut. If they don't have enough money, they make it illegal not to pay them. Imagine if it were that easy for businesses! They just have no REAL concept of how our universe here in the real world actually works... Thoughts? So there I was... Making friends and playing nice since 1983

add interest, what is it then? Glad we put so much thought into all that spending, clearly all politicians are very well versed on the 8500+ earmarks on the most recent one... must have their doctorate on the first couple that were larger in spending seeing how they had a whole month and a half to pass it all. Just like they were experts on sarbaines-oxley and the patriot act. Geniuses... all of em. nothing like scared reactionary politicians to run the country. 'Hurry do something so we can go yell our rhetoric again and get votes!' I just wish either side could put SOME thought into leading our country rather than just doing shit to do it... 6. While I was in school I sold everything I possibly could and cut back on my midweek partying. End of the semester was GREAT! selling all my books was like 25 jumps. ...then I had to buy em for next semester after i bought a block but yeah, dig through everything you have- ebay and craigslist saved me, don't eat out, eat lots of ramen, and get a part time job, i waited tables (free food as well). 9. already been done, those scales are semi-innaccurate to lighter loads... plus, have you ever sh*t without peeing? there is weight right there too, i must have my solid mass number. I could see beer being wagered @ the DZ with the results this device creates... it would eliminate all other factors, or most anyway. the dropzone's own drop-zone! Clearly this needs to be on the top of our stimulus package's list! 1 for every household and DZ So there I was... Making friends and playing nice since 1983

  12. So I've never made a poll, hope this comes out fine... After spending too much time perusing SC, I need some brain candy. I had a highly intellectual conversation with a buddy of mine and we decided, without a doubt we would like this device should it exist: Would you purchase a device that attached to your toilet which, hands/touch free, could tell you exactly how much your sh*t weighed? In a solid or sloppy state. Discuss. So there I was... Making friends and playing nice since 1983
  13. I was inferring that, yes Tex. However I meant it in a tongue in cheek manner so calmate por favor. The point of my post was for you guys to read the article to show that us godless heathens are becoming less of a minority. I was then curious to see what peoples' thoughts were for why that may be happening. I wonder if it has to do with people following the scholastic path and are now relying more heavily on empirical evidence, rather than following "faith" blindly. Blindly meaning there is no universally accepted physical proof. Any other theories? So there I was... Making friends and playing nice since 1983

  15. hmmm, lack of response in this post makes me wonder people just dont know about world affairs, or if we all fall into the "if it doesnt directly affect me i dont care" category. So there I was... Making friends and playing nice since 1983
  16. Or just less gullible? http://news.aol.com/article/religion-in-amerca-survey/374444 "A wide-ranging study on American religious life found that the Roman Catholic population has been shifting out of the Northeast to the Southwest, the percentage of Christians in the nation has declined and more people say they have no religion at all. Fifteen percent of respondents said they had no religion, an increase from 14.2 percent in 2001 and 8.2 percent in 1990, according to the American Religious Identification Survey." So there I was... 18. Yay! money well spent. So what is the tally now? roughly $1 out of every million the government spends is worthwhile? ...or will be. So there I was... Making friends and playing nice since 1983
  19. That is seriously your answer? a nonchalant 'why not?' when speakin in terms of 'fairness' do you find it fair to tax the same dollar twice? JCD- a competitive advantage like how our unions are currently creating one for the foreign markets? he he he... So there I was... Making friends and playing nice since 1983
  20. I'll admit, the CEO job is less life threatening, despite many having a security detail because of the uneducated @$$holes in the world. But with regard to risk of responsibility, which is what gets you the big bucks in our society, they have the most! The guy in the coal mine or on the construction site is dependant on the executives to keep the business healthy so they can continue to BE EMPLOYED. if a coal worker dies, sad as it is, he can be replaced in less than a day by almost anyone physically capable of the job- millions of qualified people. If say, bill gates or steve jobs were removed from microsoft and apple as they were expanding, who knows what could have happened to the company and the thousands they employ. Risk doesn't necessarily mean 'of death and dismemberment' my well informed adversary... webster defines it as 'the possibility of loss.' When viewed as how much one can contribute back to society, which is how an individual in a capitalist market can be quantified, CEO's have the most value and in turn, take on the most responsibility and risk. ...because they can help or harm society on a significantly greater scale... Aighty, I'm off to tahoe to stimulate the economy. Have a lovely weekend ladies. So there I was... Making friends and playing nice since 1983
  21. you absolutely can generalize certain types of people. If you believe otherwise, youre from another planet. Why do you think politicians spend so much time with statistics on varying demographics? there is the black vote, the white vote, the latino vote, the lower class vote, republicans, democratics, green party, young vote, middle age, baby boomers, college educated people... we're all individuals but we CAN be broken down to groups that do act on trends as a whole. the personality type with CEOs and top level execs have their own trends as well. I'd love to see you prove this inaccurate. of course some indivduals may vote or act against the trend, but the fact remains TRENDS still exist, so it is possible (and accpetable and normal) to generalize various types and classes of people. We should be best friends, we seem to make each other laugh all day! So there I was... Making friends and playing nice since 1983
  22. CEOs won't work for free, yes they are ENTITLED to higher pay than everyone else in the company, because they take significantly higher risks than EVERYONE else in the company. So in that sense, they are motivated by money, as we all are. But what I am saying is what TRULY drives them is to maek the company successful and beat the competition. Sure, there may be extra incentive by way o fbonuses and/or stock options, but at the end of the day it is the success that drives them, and the success is measured by numerous factors which include company growth and yes, compensation. The compensation is not the main driving force for these guys though, it may be a factor, but their sole focus every day they wake up and motivation for being CEO is NOT compensation- the big bucks just happen to go to the top execs that win, and that makes sense in every field of work, the top guy gets paid the most for doing a good job. he also gets paid the most if he does a bad job but not nearly as much as if he did a good job. He (or she) also does not last as long... So there I was... Making friends and playing nice since 1983
  23. "Corporate bailouts are a different story...For me, I think that is much more destructive to a free market system." I agree! let em fall on their face. John stewart had a great segment last night showing all the CEOs that were full of sh*t saying everything is fine, 3 months later they were all f*cked. Bad leadership should not be rewarded, just like poor management of your personal finances should not be rewarded. Truthfully, I'm not 100% against some social safety nets, the problem is the dems spend SO MUCH, it is out of control. Living in the state of CA, i make less than 100K and some how I lose a total of 43% of my paycheck to taxes and other government programs- and that is just based on INCOME! doesn't include all the other taxes we pay out here. I just think it is SO WRONG to take home 50% or less of your paycheck at the end of the day, cut the spending and let us live our lives, buy sh*t and stimulate the economy! It just isnt fair for any of us. the government should be able to operate at MOST on 25% of what it's citizens make. The fact that more taxes are on the horizon makes me want to throw up. So there I was... Making friends and playing nice since 1983
  24. Yup! Well, at least youre right when analyzing the issue from a logical and rational point of view. but instead, let's roll the dice and go full blown irrational, label it something sexy like the 'progressive' standpoint and just blame everything on the biggest minority in the country (rich people) so we can rile up the majority of 'have-nots' and legally steal from the rich to produce an unnatural balance in a democratic and capitalistic society to slow the recovery and stay elected so we can pass more socialist...errr I mean social program policy. Anyway, I'm doing my part to keep the economy turning- i'm donating all my income to rent, Budweiser, and the wind tunnel. Oh yeah and my gas guzzling sports car that actually gets better mpg's than 3/4 of the hybrids, but without the smUg. So there I was... Making friends and playing nice since 1983
  25. I totally agree with you on the aspect of getting paid just by having the right connections. The sad truth is that does happen sometimes. The vast majority- especially at the top tier executive level in the corporate world- have had to work their way to that spot and were not handed anything. Also, with regards to Wendy's comments: I absolutely think that a great CEO can make a substantial difference in how well a company does. These guys dont just sit up there and collect, they have a vision for a direction of where a company should go and take it there. When they are right the pay off for everyone can be HUGE- whether it is massive growth and job creation, or higher salaries for all, or investors making money off the stock. A bad CEO can do the exact opposite, cost people money and jobs. In this scenario he certainly doesnt deserve the huge bonuses, but he is entitled to his severence just as the hourly employee is. It just happens to be much larger than the hourly employee. So there I was... Making friends and playing nice since 1983
