Studies suggest texting and driving is as dangerous as drinking and driving. Just because you do it regularly does not mean it's safe. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

NSA collecting phone records of millions of Verizon customers daily

He appears to be doing just that. The problem seems to be that people don't like the law. That's completely understandable, but not the fault of the Executive Branch. That issue needs to be taken up with Congress. Otherwise, it's just unproductive whining. Well, we're making progress. A few days ago you didn't think it was surveillance. Collecting metadata isn't. Collecting the actual data might be, and certainly is if it is analyzed, and not just warehoused. To be clear, just because I don't fault the administration for using their power under the Patriot Act does not mean I support the Patriot Act. But the reality is that it is law. How long before you considered yourself a nom-smoker?

I don't remember if I ate more or not. I had a pretty physical job at that time, so it didn't matter much if I did. I haven't had a problem with weight since I quit. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials! -

I lived in Florida. Cars and cigarettes were both readily available. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials! -
I joke about how you can tell someone is a bad driver from a distance. (A: They are behind the wheel.) In all seriousness, I think most people are good drivers most of the time, and nearly everybody is a bad driver occasionally. Some days, the joke seems to mirror reality the closest, though. I feel that way about cigarettes and gasoline. Both have become far more expensive than I was ever willing to pay. Giving up cigarettes and going car-free were the two best quality of life improvement decisions I've ever made (and not just for monetary reasons). Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! No one is claiming that every Republican rejects science in order to further their agenda. But I think you'll find that among politicians who do reject science, the overwhelming majority are Republicans. Liberals tend to embrace science. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! He's not the only politician making such absurd claims, and it seems that only the Republicans are doing it, so it does, indeed, appear to be a Republican thing. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

Still think it's cool? http://news.cnet.com/8301-13578_3-57589495-38/nsa-admits-listening-to-u.s-phone-calls-without-warrants/ I never thought it was cool. It's just appears to be legal, so any outrage should be directed to Congress and the people, not the administration. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials! -
How long before you considered yourself a nom-smoker?
jcd11235 replied to Nataly's topic in The Bonfire
The most important difference between the time I successfully quit (over 11 years ago) and the many other times I tried to quit was that, the last time, I never considered myself to be trying to quit. As soon as I put out my last cigarette, I began thinking of myself as a non-smoker. I wasn't trying to do anything. I did it. Someone who looks at the process as trying to quit is not only acknowledging that failure is a very real possibility, he is setting himself up for that failure. Someone who honestly considers himself a non-smoker is putting cigarettes behind him and moving forward with the rest of his life without them. Do or do not. There is no try. Math tutoring available. Yet one more example of Liberal Spitefulness

Agreed. There's no evidence to suggest the principal is a liberal or that politics played any role at all in the student's audio being cut. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials! -

jcd11235 replied to turtlespeed's topic in Speakers Corner
There is no evidence of that. All that we know is that the speech he tried to deliver was different from the speech he submitted, and that the student speakers knew that any deviation from speeches submitted would result in their audio being cut. If you can provide some evidence that there was more to it than that, then there might be something worth discussing. Without any such evidence, it's a non-story. Math tutoring available. What the student did wrong is right there in your quoted passages. "The subject of the addresses shall be related to the purpose of the graduation ceremony, marking and honoring the occasion, honoring the participants and those in attendance, and the student's perspective on purpose, achievement, life, school, graduation, and looking forward to the future. … The District shall treat a student's voluntary expression of a religious viewpoint, if any, on an otherwise permissible subject in the same manner the District treats a student's voluntary expression of a secular or other viewpoint on an otherwise permissible subject and shall not discriminate against the student based on a religious viewpoint expressed by the student on an otherwise permissible subject." It appears the student was wrong, in more ways than one, and the principal acted properly. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials! -

I already did. Perhaps a quoted text then? Why bother? There's nothing to suggest the student's audio was cut because of its content. The onus is on you to make the case that that is what happened. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials! -

If you read carefully, you'll see that the policy you posted isn't applicable to the situation. If you can show us how he submitted the speech he delivered, and that submission was rejected, then you might have a point (though first amendment considerations would trump district policy if the student was trying to deliver a sermon). "I know you have comprehension problems, but please, try stay up with the rest of the class." The passage you quoted refers to the speech to be submitted. It doesn't address what happens if the speech delivered deviates from the speech submitted. There is zero indication that the audio was cut off because of the content of the speech, except that it deviated from what the student submitted. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! jcd11235 replied to turtlespeed's topic in Speakers Corner
Yes. Had I known that would happen, however, I wouldn't have walked. The student deviated from the speech he submitted for review. The stated policy was to shut off the mic if that happened. The content of the speech isn't relevant. Show me in the literature of the student handbook and policies that I provided links to where it mentions that microphones will be shut off for sensorship. Show me where it mentions that the school or its supposed leaders are entitled to edit a d revise a speech they are not writing. Show me where the policies were adhered to. From your source: "The Joshua ISD issued a statement to MyFoxDFW noting, 'student speakers were told that if their speeches deviated from the prior-reviewed material, the microphone would be turned off, regardless of content. When one student’s speech deviated from the prior-reviewed speech, the microphone was turned off, pursuant to District policy and procedure.'" Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour!
