  5. Yes. Had I known that would happen, however, I wouldn't have walked. The student deviated from the speech he submitted for review. The stated policy was to shut off the mic if that happened. The content of the speech isn't relevant. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

  10. Please tell us you don't actually believe that. Wow. It's trivial to obtain a phone and pre-paid service that is not linked to any particular individual, at least in the US. Give it a shot. When you're setting it up, lemmee know at what point you bailed out of the process. ETA: Or you could always give Mr. Skinner a call and see how that worked for him.. In 2006 the DEA arrested a man named Melvin Skinner, who was caught transporting 1,100 pounds of marijuana across the Southwest. The government was able to catch up with Skinner by tracking the signals being emitted by his two prepaid cellphones and subsequently triangulating his location. He even lost on appeal when he used the "burner non-traceable" right to privacy defense. http://www.ca6.uscourts.gov/opinions.pdf/12a0262p-06.pdf Not every pre-paid phone is a burner phone. And anonymity is just one more thing trumped by stupid. You'll notice in that case, the phones were not identified as the users' through data associated with the phone, but rather from other aspects of the investigation. The defendant was apparently too dumb to replace his phone regularly and often, and keep it turned off (with battery and SIM card removed) when not in use. (Keeping the phone in a Faraday cage should also work.) His phones were located via GPS, not a connection of the phone number to an individual. That case strongly indicates that you can't fix stupid, but it doesn't indicate that burner phones don't exist, as you claim. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

  12. That has been a trademark of the current Administration. Prosecuting criminals? Previous administrations also did that. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  13. Treason might be a stretch, based on its definition in the Constitution, but it is quite understandable that there are calls for Snowden's prosecution for leaking classified information regarding legal practices of the NSA. He should be prosecuted for the leaks. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  14. Really? Please be so kind as to link to an admission that NSA has direct access to the servers of Google, Facebook, Apple, Microsoft, etc. Or are you referring to the legal, court-ordered collection of metadata? That's a non-story. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  15. Oops. Sorry. Fixed. The ones that have been verified have been legal. Pointing out that the NSA uses legally the tools at their disposal isn't whistle blowing. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  16. I have no doubt that, as a network administrator, you are capable of some pretty nefarious stuff. I'd be willing to bet that you're quite capable of installing logging software on most of the computers on your network. I doubt you do so indiscriminately, though. Should we assume that you do that nefarious stuff simply because you are capable? Personally, there's lots of things I could easily do, yet I do not do them. Also, burner phones make reverse lookup pretty useless. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  17. ??? Anonymous metadata would be extremely useful. Detecting patterns in large data sets does not require being able to connect numbers to individuals. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  18. Yes, because you would have been surveilling the content, a critical distinction from what NSA is doing. Edit to add: Did you typically disconnect when you "accidentally bumped on to someone's phone call"? My guess is that you did, despite having the technical ability to listen in. If you really believe that, then you don't understand what metadata is. There is a HUGE difference between metadata and content. Yes, it can, but that information was attached to anonymous (from the perspective of NSA) numbers, not people. They had a valid court order. The evidence suggests they acted legally. If you want more disclosure, then take it up with your senators and representative. People already have access to the relevant laws and legal precedents. If they make no effort to do the research, they have no one to blame but themselves. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  19. Not at all. He already spoke to two newspapers, making the accusations and supplying them with classified documents. Snowden's most serious allegations don't pass the smell test. I need some actual evidence before taking him seriously. Edit to add: Google to DOJ: Let us prove to users that NSA isn't snooping on them How likely is it that Google would seek authorization to disclose more information about how they disclose data if they actually gave NSA the direct server access they have publicly denied providing? 20. Collecting anonymous metadata is NOT surveillance! Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  21. You'll forgive me for not being outraged that there are some aspects of national security that are classified. I'll ask you the same thing I asked Kelpdiver. You're a pretty intelligent guy. If you were going to blow the whistle on an organization, don't you think you would first gather some evidence supporting the most serious allegations you planned to make? Actual violations of rights, as they are guaranteed by the Constitution, as it is interpreted by the judicial branch. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  22. I used to work at a Gatorz dealer. I also have a narrow face. I'm not familiar with their current offerings, but at that time, the only frame that fit was the Demora (and it still wasn't as narrow as I'd have liked). Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  23. In Missouri, we have a part-time legislature, which effectively places much of the state government's power in the hands of non-elected officials who work year round. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  24. Show me the confirmation of the biggest claim, that the government has direct access to data servers of companies like Google and Facebook. That looks to be the big lie that kills Snowden's credibility completely. Without that, it appears that he hasn't uncovered any wrongdoing or illegal activities. He just leaked classified intel. It's wasn't honorable. It wasn't heroic. It wasn't admirable. It was criminal. Directing outrage at the administration because the government is using legally the very tools provided by the electorate (indirectly) speaks much more poorly of the electorate than the government. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  25. I haven't seen DC deny the story. In fact, no one is denying or questioning it- the fury seems to be that he told the truth and now you're just quibbling that they are only sort of fucking with us. You seriously haven't seen the denials about the government having direct access to data servers? There was no supporting evidence of the claim, and several people who were actually in a position to have known what was happening have flatly denied that it occurred. Fair enough. Of course, others arguing the same position as you have argued that those working in intelligence lack credibility. Of course, Snowden wasn't a CIA or NSA employee when he leaked the classified intel, so we shouldn't lend him any more credibility than the reporters who presented his unsubstantiated story.
