  3. 'Slapshot' was entertaining no doubt~ ...but 'The Color of Money'... putting he and Cruise together, was one of the finer 'acted' movies ever made. 'The Hustler' tie-in was pure genius. The Hustler and The Color Of Money were both novels by Walter Tevis. The movie version of The Hustler closely resembled the novel. The movie version of The Color Of Money strayed pretty far from the novel. The real genius was waiting until Newman was old enough to play an older Eddie Felson before releasing the sequel. TCOM was okay, and did great things for pool rooms across the country, but it also elevated 9-ball's popularity to the point that most bangers don't even know the rules of more technical games like 14.1 and one pocket. There's way too much luck in 9-ball until you start playing long races (race to nine, race to eleven, etc.). Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  4. Another favorite: "I coulda beat that guy, coulda beat 'im cold, he never woulda known. But I just hadda show 'im. Just hadda show those creeps and those punks what the game is like when it's great, when it's REALLY great. You know, like anything can be great, anything can be great. I don't care, BRICKLAYING can be great, if a guy knows. If he knows what he's doing and why and if he can make it come off. When I'm goin', I mean, when I'm REALLY goin' I feel like a... like a jockey must feel. He's sittin' on his horse, he's got all that speed and that power underneath him... he's comin' into the stretch, the pressure's on 'im, and he KNOWS... just feels... when to let it go and how much. Cause he's got everything workin' for 'im: timing, touch. It's a great feeling, boy, it's a real great feeling when you're right and you KNOW you're right. It's like all of a sudden I got oil in my arm. The pool cue's part of me. You know, it's uh - pool cue, it's got nerves in it. It's a piece of wood, it's got nerves in it. Feel the roll of those balls, you don't have to look, you just KNOW. You make shots that nobody's ever made before. I can play that game the way... NOBODY'S ever played it before."--Fast Eddie Felson The Hustler (1961) Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

  6. Which is an absurd assertion. Unfavorable compared to whom? McCain? Sorry, but Obama's platform is far better than McCain's in the objective opinion of many people. Race has nothing to do with it. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

  8. Hilarious, considering your accusation to Kallend that he's voting for Obama because of his race. I said I suspected projection. Bullshit. Did you even read your own response to Kallend? Why didn't you just accuse him outright of hating whites? Could you possibly be any more hypocritical? Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  9. It's funny how many people think that Obama's supporters base their support on race. Projection, I suppose. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

  11. I'm sure we've all heard and read about Obama being Muslim, or his refusal to wear a US flag lapel pin, or any number of other claims. That doesn't mean they have any basis in fact. So now you're establishing the things you think I have come to believe about Obama, on my behalf? Not at all. I never said nor implied that you thought Obama was Muslim or that you believe that he refused to wear the flag lapel pin. I only offered them as examples of things most everyone has read or heard about Senator Obama. Without checking to make sure things (regardless of what they might be) you've "read or heard" are factual, then you have no way of knowing that your personal beliefs about Senator Obama are based in fact, or are the result of personal prejudices. I still am, despite your misinterpretation of my last past. You're unwillingness and/or inability to cite credible sources to support your assertions justifies the challenge. Math tutoring available. 12. To repeat myself again: Both "contribute" to the mess. Your sources do not support your initial assertion: ""Forcing banks and loan companies to give loans to people whose only source of income is welfare and public assistance is another way of preying on dumb people with the offer of a "free" house." Nor do your sources support your assertion that properties purchased with mortgages from CRA banks were more likely to go through foreclosure than properties from non-CRA lending institutions. In fact, evidence suggests the opposite to be true; properties with mortgages from CRA banks are in foreclosure at a lower rate than properties from mortgages from non-CRA lending institutions. Please, show us evidence supporting your claim that banks were forced to loan money "to people whose only source of income was welfare and public assistance". Math tutoring available. 13. Fair enough. The comparison you proposed had nothing to do with the topic at hand. If McCain was black and Obama was white, we would expect to see Obama's support increase. Make no mistake, race is a disadvantage for Obama. But, that is what the comparison you suggested would require as an underlying assumption if the comparison was to be at all meaningful. I would say the vast majority of Obama's supporters, regardless of race, fall into that category. Senator Clinton did very well among blacks during the primaries, indicating that race was not the primary consideration. I only had your post to go by. If it is inconsistent with what you meant to say, I have no way of knowing. You said there was a miscommunication, and I'm quite willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. Math tutoring available. 14. I'm sure we've all heard and read about Obama being Muslim, or his refusal to wear a US flag lapel pin, or any number of other claims. That doesn't mean they have any basis in fact. You crack me up! It's rather telling about your personal beliefs on personal responsibility when you refuse to pay your own debt. 15. Yes the the $16.37 surge in oil did hold at the end of the day, according to Marg's cited source. It was the $25.45 surge that did not hold at the end of the day. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  16. That's nice. I'm not here to convince anyone. And I'm not interested enough to go digging up links and lines for you to read. You have your mind made up, and I have my mind made up, based on our respective experiences and the things we've seen, heard, and read. I'm OK with that. In other words, you are basing your opinion on prejudices, without first considering whether they have any basis in reality. BTW, when are you going to pay your debt? Where's the money you owe me? Don't you believe in personal responsibility? Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

  18. Answers to your questions: 1. No 2. Yes >>What kind of comparison would that be? >1. No That wasn't a yes or no question. >>Are you claiming that every single black who supports Obama does so because Obama is phenotypically black? >2. Yes So, why do you believe that? Also, why did you ignore my third question? Yes Did you happen to notice what I wrote in my very first sentence? I read all of the sentences in your post. You just said that you think that you think every single black who supports Obama does so because he is phenotypically black. Apparently you're trying to bash blacks in general. 20. The effective date of the law was 8/14/00. True, but those two charges for 2000 do not account for all the charges we should have seen Wasilla pay if the Wasilla police chief, appointed by Palin, can be believed w/r/t his estimation of costs to Wasilla due to the bill, i.e. up to $14,000 per year. By that estimation, we should have seen the amount Wasilla paid for rape kits in 2000 be much closer to $8750 than the $1060 that you documented. A much more plausible explanation is that Wasilla police changed their policy sometime between the time Governor Knowles signed the law, and when it actually went into effect. Not at all. Why would Wasilla be mentioned specifically in the minutes? It was statewide legislature that was being discussed, not anything that singled Wasilla out. That Croft was motivated, in part, by Wasilla's policy wouldn't have changed that any. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  21. Widely reported and not just on Fox News. I already posted one article from Newsweek. Do a little research to find your answer, or is your question a slippery way of trying to debunk my original post? I didn't notice any percentages in the article you posted. Perhaps you should do a little research to find data supporting your assertion. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  22. What kind of comparison would that be? Are you claiming that every single black who supports Obama does so because Obama is phenotypically black? Have you considered the possibility that they might actually recognize his political platform to be superior to Senator McCain's, and thus support Obama based on the issues? Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  23. Not from what I've seen. For example, one of my roommates, who is black, supported Senator Clinton over Senator Obama, as did I. It certainly wasn't uncommon for such to be the case. In fact, every person I know who has supported Senator Obama since he first announced his candidacy for President have been white males. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! 24. Other than proving the city WAS paying the cost BEFORE they were required to by law? How is that NOT relevant? How did you come to that conclusion? The bill was signed into state law in May 2000. The earliest charge paid by Wasilla for which you provided evidence occurred in June 2000. From Wasilla's newspaper, The Frontiersman: JO C. GOODE / The Frontiersman / May 23, 2000 ANCHORAGE - Gov. Tony Knowles recently signed legislation protecting victims of sexual assault from being billed for tests to collect evidence of the crime, but one local police chief said the new law will further burden taxpayers. The governor signed House Bill 270, sponsored by Rep. Eric Croft, D-Anchorage, outside the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) exam room at Alaska Regional Hospital. In attendance at the signing were members of victims advocate groups, law enforcement agencies and legislators. The new law makes it illegal for any law enforcement agency to bill victims or victims insurance companies for the costs of examinations that take place to collect evidence of a sexual assault or determine if a sexual assault did occur. We would never bill the victim of a burglary for fingerprinting and photographing the crime scene, or for the cost of gathering other evidence, Knowles said. Nor should we bill rape victims just because the crime scene happens to be their bodies. While the Alaska State Troopers and most municipal police agencies have covered the cost of exams, which cost between $300 to $1,200 apiece, the Wasilla police department does charge the victims of sexual assault for the tests. … From USA Today's Palin's town used to bill victims for rape kits: By Ken Dilanian and Matt Kelley, USA TODAY WASILLA, Alaska — In 2000, Alaska lawmakers learned that rural police agencies had been billing rape victims or their insurance companies $500 to $1,200 for the costs of the forensic medical examinations used to gather evidence. They quickly passed a law prohibiting the practice. According to the sponsor, Democrat Eric Croft, the law was aimed in part at Wasilla, where now-Gov. Sarah Palin was mayor. When it was signed, Wasilla's police chief expressed displeasure. … Until the 2000 legislation, local law enforcement agencies in Alaska could pass along the cost of the exams, which are needed to obtain an attacker's DNA evidence. Rape victims in several areas of Alaska, including the Matanuska-Susitna Valley where Wasilla is, complained about being charged for the tests, victims' advocate Lauree Hugonin, of the Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, told state House committees, records show. In cases when insurance companies are billed, the victims pay a deductible. [Then Wasilla Police chief] Fannon told the Frontiersman that the tests would cost the department up to $14,000 per year. He said he would rather force rapists to pay for the tests, not taxpayers. Fannon, who is no longer police chief, could not be reached for comment Wednesday; his home phone number has been disconnected. It is not known how many rape victims in Wasilla were required to pay for some or all of the medical exams, but a legislative staffer who worked on the bill for Croft said it happened. "It was more than a couple of cases, and it was standard practice in Wasilla," Peggy Wilcox said, who now works for the Alaska Public Employees Association. "If you were raped in Wasilla, this was going to happen to you." … Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  25. According to the article in the OP, "That’s also why, when news of Wasilla’s practice of billing rape victims got around, Alaska’s State Legislature approved a bill in 2000 to stop it."
