  1. Not according to Florida law, and not according to any State law in any place I have ever lived.
  2. If a guy has fire detectors and a fire extinguisher.... Is he paranoid, or just stacking the odds in his favor? Serious question.
  3. 1. The govt should not be able to force you to buy a product. (Mandate, but you covered that. 2. Its expensive * The CBO foresees an 87 percent overrun, not even 24 months into the plan. * The CBO’s latest valuation now reflects two more years in full operation. Gross costs for FY 2021 and ’22 equal $250 billion and $265 billion, respectively. This nearly doubles the act’s advertised price. * They used 10 years of taxes and only 8 years of benefits paid out to make it look less expensive. 3. It is designed to force people onto the govt roster: *"The CBO expects an additional 4 million Americans to lose their employer-provided coverage, as managers choose to pay fines rather than premiums" * As the Washington Examiner’s Philip Klein observed Tuesday, the Unaffordable Care Act will drive at least 39 million people into the govt HC plans. 4. And this is the big one.... Name me a govt program that works well? Social Security is basically a ponzi scheme that is falling down. * The post office has been running in the red for years... Just last year, the Postal Service ended its fiscal year $2.8 billion in the red, The USPS lost $2.8 billion in 2008, $3.7 billion in 2009, $8.3 billion last year, and it was $8.5 billion in the red in 2011. The US Postal Service is so deeply in debt that it could default on a $5.5 billion payment for retiree benefits. *Amtrak commenced operations in 1971 with $40 million in direct federal aid, $100 million in federally insured loans. Officials expected that Amtrak would break even by 1974, but those expectations proved unrealistic and annual direct Federal aid reached a 17-year high in 1981 of $1.25 billion. Losses in 2010 were $419.9 million. They were topped again for the fiscal year that ended in September when losses hit $560 million. This year’s losses are projected to be in excess of $600 million. Since the start of the 2000s, the United States has dedicated more than $1 billion per year to the broken system, and matters were only made worse by the Rail Safety Improvement Act signed into law in 2008 by President George W. Bush. The Act guarantees annual funding of $2.6 billion through 2013. Even with the cash flow of such charity, Amtrak continues to string together losses. So we give 1Billion to Amtrak each year and they still lose money. This the kinda business plan you agree with? So, if Social Security is facing a problem, medicaid and medicare are facing problems, the Post Office and Amtrak can't run a balanced budget.... What in the world makes anyone thing the Govt can run a HC system? 5. And with all the attacks on personal freedoms from the govt in the past... Patriot act for example. Do you REALLY want the Govt in charge of your HEALTH? 6. I have had US run healthcare (Army/VA)... It sucked.
  4. then why did you post this: "The tactic of blaming the government (i.e. Obama) for gas prices is a transparent Republican election ploy, entirely without factual merit but nevertheless appealing to those for whom stimulus/response is the limit of their capacity for critical thought." When you now admit both side do it?
  5. Seems the lefties have selective memory and a sliding scale of outrage based on who said what. If a Republican blames a Dem for gas prices, they claim there is no way a President can influence gas prices. But if a Dem says a Reb is to blame... they pile on with outrage. Normal, but not intellectually honest.
  6. You have to slow the bullet down below supersonic or you will still get the 'crack'. You can be several hundred feet from a weapon and not really hear the report, but you sure as hell will hear the crack as it whizzes past you. In a 9mm for example a normal target load will be ~5 grains of powder and a 115 grain projectile. To slow it down below supersonic you would load ~3.7 grains of powder with a 147 grain projectile. A 9mm loaded like this and suppressed is very quiet. It also is not as effective. Suppressors are great for hunting, but most people have big misconceptions about the effectiveness of a suppressor. Most of this is because people have only seen them on TV and associate them with assassins.
  7. Not really a big enough deal to worry about. Many European Country's think using a suppressor is the 'polite, responsible' thing to do. Yes, I think they are a great idea for hunters.
  8. Ever notice that crazies normally go to places that guns are not allowed to start killing people? You don't see many nutjobs start shooting at people at a gun show or range. Think there might be some reason?
  9. The concepts should never change. Religion should be free from Govt influence, and this should not only apply to religions that were in place before 1791. Mormonism for example should be protected even if it was founded in ~1820. The internet should be protected by the 1st, not just the printing press.
  10. Oh look two personal attacks in one..... Still your insult does not change the fact that the SC compared them.
  11. I would say yes, unless it went against a State Constitution.
  12. Wounded pride is not "great bodily harm". Words have to be matched with some sort of action. Him saying, "I'm gonna kick your ass" is not the same as him saying, "I'm gonna kick your ass" as he chambers a punch or lunges at you. Assault: An assault is carried out by a threat of bodily harm coupled with an apparent, present ability to cause the harm. Generally, the essential elements of assault consist of an act intended to cause an apprehension of harmful or offensive contact that causes apprehension of such contact in the victim. The act required for an assault must be overt. Although words alone are insufficient, they might create an assault when coupled with some action that indicates the ability to carry out the threat. A mere threat to harm is not an assault; however, a threat combined with a raised fist might be sufficient if it causes a reasonable apprehension of harm in the victim. So no, insults alone do not seem to be enough.
  13. IIRC, that statement was from a funeral home not the ME. Depends. If I punch someone in a soft area there would be zero damage to my knuckles... And if I palm heal a guy on the forehead, again zero damage to my hand. I have been knocked flat out and knocked others out and there was no visible damage to my/their face or my/their fist/foot. Seen it, done it, lived it. Walking around at night with a hoodie in the rain. This is just like a Rorschach test... You are gonna see what you want to see. That includes the people that try to claim it was *only* race based just as much as those that claim it had *nothing* to do with race.
  14. Words do not constitute bodily harm. So a person can cuss you out all day and that does not give you permission to hit them. Is it smart? No. Is it a good idea? No. But words don't put people into the hospital or morgue. In my non-lawyer opinion... Words do not allow the use of any type of force.
  15. Yet the police report shows he DID have injuries. EMT's DID treat him for injuries. He DID go to the hospital for injuries. There is a very easy answer to why the video didn't show any injuries. 1. It was taken 4 hours after the incident. Blood clots stop bleeding and he had already been seen by medical personnel. 2. The resolution of the video is terrible. While a big wound on the TV screen would have helped his case, the fact it can't easily be seen does not really hurt it unless you are fishing for a reason to doubt the police report, EMT report, and witness statements. See above You can claim that... it does not make it true.
  16. You knew about the price difference, yet you don't work for them. No, I think it is impossible to know where you actually stand since you never spell it out. I have come to believe that you do not give a firm and complete answer so that you can maintain flexibility in your arguments.
  17. *IF* they are doing it for the sake of discussion... You are correct. BV may be doing that, he might not be. I can't answer for him. But there are people that are holding onto the first version of the story no matter what data is presented and for no logical reason. If BV is not doing that, I can't say. I can say that it seems plenty of people are doing that.
  18. Again: 1. It is a STATE law in most cases, not FEDERAL. 2. You can drive in many States without car insurance... Perfectly legal Also, where is the penalty if you don't? Where is the penalty? Finally, do you claim you have to buy insurance even if you don't have a car? I'll ask again: 1. What is your *Constitutional* backing of that? Your LEGAL reasons why you think the Govt can mandate that you buy a private product. 2. I would like you to tell me where you think that line stops. Can the govt make you buy a cell phone? Cable TV? A car?
  19. And Roberts says Broccoli and HC insurance are the same thing. Does that mean it is true?
  20. 1. The business needing a fire extinguisher.... State and local laws, not federal and not an individual. 2. Car insurance... Not Federal and not required if you don't have a car 3. Child safety belts.... Not Federal and not required if you do not have a car. I'll ask again: 1. What is your *Constitutional* backing of that? Your LEGAL reasons why you think the Govt can mandate that you buy a private product. 2. I would like you to tell me where you think that line stops. Can the govt make you buy a cell phone? Cable TV? A car?
  21. No, it seems the more data comes out, the more GZ's story is believable.... Unless you just hold onto your already held opinions and discount everything that comes up. First it was an overzealous white nutjob ignoring police orders and killing an innocent 17 year old for walking with skittles. When it was pointed out that GZ was actually half Hispanic... You discounted that. When it was found out that TM was not exactly a model student, you discounted that. Then when it was pointed out that the dispatcher never "ordered" GZ to do anything and that a dispatcher does not have the authority to make an order... Well you just discount that. When it seems according to the phone transcripts that GZ actually lost sight of TM and started walking back to this truck.... You just assume GZ found him again and ignore that TM might have started to follow GZ. When reports of witnesses stated that TM was on top of GZ and beating his ass.... You ignore that and claim that the witnesses are either trying to cover it up, and instead give credence to the audio only witnesses that claim they 'knew' it was a young boy calling for help. When reports showed that GZ had a broken nose and a head wound. You claim that the police and EMT's lied about that. You base that on a low rez video made several hours after the fact and his lack of hospital report. When it was shown he actually DID get medical attention, you claim he could have done it to himself later. The more data that comes to light the more GZ's story seems to hold water and the less your version seems to stand up. Seems no amount of evidence is going to be enough to appease this mob mentality. You will just continue to ignore relevant pieces and grasp at straws. Zimmerman was not angel. He was pretty stupid to go following someone... But that is not illegal. GZ called 911, TM did not.
  22. A business is not an individual. We are talking about individuals. 1. Not if they don't own a car. 2. There is no penalty for not buying car insurance. 3. Last I checked this was a STATE requirement, not a FEDERAL law. 1. Not if they don't have a car 2. not if they don't have kids You also skipped these parts: 1. What is your *Constitutional* backing of that? Your LEGAL reasons why you think the Govt can mandate that you buy a private product. 2. I would like you to tell me where you think that line stops. Can the govt make you buy a cell phone? Cable TV? A car?
  23. True, but also 5-6 years ago and the restraining order didn't seem to hold enough water to stick. All I am saying is that the 'innocent 17 year old' story is not exactly matching the data that is available. And it does not seem to matter much to the mob mentality.
