Sure, you cited one case of a nutter with a gun, yet 40% of Americans own guns (Joseph Carroll, Gallup Poll Assistant Editor) And the U.S. has an estimated 283 million guns in civilian hands (Brady Center http://www.bradycampaign.org/facts/gunsinamerica) So, I'll let you do the math if you like, but 283 Million guns/the one that this idiot used. Or maybe try this math in 1994, 44 million Americans owned 192 million firearms.... Just totally ignoring the 4-5 million firearms sold each year on average and using this number 44,000,000 to 1.... Again, you can do the math if you really want. Current numbers show between 77 million and 90 million gun owners in the United States. But you will see that you are really crying wolf due to your fear of an object. But please, use whatever valid numbers you want and show me what percentage of gun owners vs total gun owners are a problem In 2010, a new high of 14.41 million NICS checks were carried out, and for the first five months of 2011, checks have been running at a rate about 10% higher than 2010, suggesting a total for 2011 in the order of nearly 16 million checks – nearly twice the rate of nine years earlier. Go ahead.... Back up your claims for once. And even if that number is as low as 99%.... You are still just crying wolf.
-
And in a related note.... The majority of guns owners (99.999999%) didn't shoot anyone yesterday.

Well, the anti's never have really cared for facts. -
Yes, but you can adjust. But if the target is far enough away, you can find a better shooting stance. The laying on the ground sideways thing is only for very close distances where you need good cover. Yes, and no. I have done it and you will have no issues.
-
Most SD uses are less than 10 feet. Much further and running to cover becomes the better option. Think about it this way.... What is the longest shot you can take in your house? Wore out is the problem. Right handed shooter? And the grouping has nothing to do with the sights.

high-end homeowners have chosen to pursue a "strategic default."

The answer is in bold. -
Not really. A criminal can't fillout a 4473 and walk out with a gun. And you still have not provided your 'plan' on how to stop criminals without trashing the rights of honest citizens.
-
Yes you can.... A gun by itself does NOTHING. The 9/11 hijackers didn't have a single gun. And if the 'victim' were armed they would also have a much better chance at protecting themselves. We already have these rules.... The criminals ignore them. 1. With a govt that is bugging phone calls on its citizens without a warrant already.... Already a clear violation, you think that this would not be abused? 2. The original intent of the 2nd was to be able to be armed AGAINST the govt. Giving them the ability to track you down is not exactly inline with the intent of the 2nd. I am fine with regulations and laws to keep guns out of criminals hands... What I am not fine with is rules that hurt citizens that have not been proven guilty of anything. I'd rather just tag the criminals with GPS devices.

And yet when people say you have an irrational fear of guns you claim that it is not true. Fact is that I am more worried about the ATTACKER than the weapon. Because a gun by itself does absolutely nothing. http://montego.roughwheelers.com/gun_cam.html

Doesn't prevent rape though. A PERFECT answer.

Like stated already, cars kill more people than guns each year by a significant number. Alcohol kills more people each year by a significant number. The fact it kills more does in fact mean exactly that..... You can pretend otherwise, but the numbers show you to be wrong. Why is it the anti-gun crowd refuses to admit that most gun owners don't do anything wrong? Why is it that the anti-gun crowd refuses to understand that a criminal is not going to follow the law and register/not carry/not use certain calibers/fillout forms/get a license... etc?
-
Might want to check your facts here. It did equal that in Germany, England, Australia.... Even in NY city and in California...... So you can't say it does not when it has in fact happened.

And you should check your irrational fear of an inanimate object. -
One method of dead is worse than the other?

From your source: "But this street wisdom is wrong, according to one....." So ONE person makes your argument? Keep reading, it gets better. "Wachtel (THE ONE GUY) says one of the most common ways criminals get guns is through straw purchase sales." BTW, you do know that a straw purchase is illegal right? "The next biggest source of illegal gun transactions where criminals get guns are sales made by legally licensed but corrupt at-home and commercial gun dealers" Look, that is also *illegal*. And "The report goes on to state that "over-the-counter purchases are not the only means by which guns reach the illegal market from FFLs" and reveals that 23,775 guns have been reported lost, missing or stolen from FFLs" Huh, *stolen*. "Another large source of guns used in crimes are unlicensed street dealers who either get their guns through illegal transactions with licensed dealers, straw purchases, or from gun thefts." But wait, there is more!!!! "Supported by the National Institute of Justice and based on interviews with those recently arrested, the study acknowledges gun theft is common, with 13 percent of all arrestees interviewed admitting that they had stolen a gun" And still ILLEGAL, BTW. So... Lets use your claim and your source: 1. Straw purchase.... ILLEGAL ALREADY 2. Illegal transaction from an FFL..... ILLEGAL ALREADY 3. Stolen.... ILLEGAL ALREADY. So you are raging against things that are already illegal and the crooks don't seem to be stopped.... So your 'solution' is to make it MORE ILLEGAL?????? No, your solution is to trample on the MAJORITY's rights to "fix" a problem that is statistically small in the first place (Chance of gun death is 1/32000) Yet you bitched about the ATF looking into regulating toy rockets? -
Compare them against the MILLIONS of citizens that own guns (polling organizations come up with ~40 Million admitted gun owners in the US) and you are crying wolf about the dangers. Hell, "U.S. citizens own 270 million of the world's 875 million known firearms" -- Small Arms Survey, (2007), Geneva-based Graduate Institute of International Studies. Fact is that unless you are suicidal (58 percent of firearms fatalities are suicides) or a criminal, your chances of being killed by gunfire in any given calendar year are approximately 1 in 32,000. So while each death is tragic, the sky is not falling and you are clearly crying wolf.

Simple is better for SD. I have seen adjustable sights fall off in classes. And you can adjust the G19 stock sights. And once zeroed, they should never have to be readjusted. I'd avoid the Gen4 G19... they have had a few issues. People say they are fixed now. But if a company that made a reserve that had some issues.... I'd stay away from them for a while till I *Knew* the issue was fixed.

I could say the same about the pro-choice group.

DaVinci replied to dannydan's topic in Speakers Corner
Unfortunately, you can't be home 100% of the time. Most guns used by criminals are stolen from legal gun owners..... Telling the criminals who has guns is like handing them a shopping list... Bad idea. -
Thats not exactly true. Some people ARE afraid of citizens being allowed to carry. It is the same as a kid being afraid of the boogie man, but there are people who are afraid of both.
-
It is already illegal to be a lunatic and go hurting people. Would it be better if the lunatic used a bat? Robbing people is already illegal. Would it be better if the criminal used a knife? That is their choice. But why should they get to make me feel threatened? Then those people do not HAVE to carry. Why should YOU get to disarm ME if I am willing to take the responsibility? Well, those same people are going to be afraid of the guy with a knife, bat, screwdriver. Fact is that it is illegal to do without a gun the same things criminals do with them. AND criminals still do the same crimes without guns. So taking a gun from me will not prevent a criminal from using one. I resent crime but I am smart enough to know that a criminal is going to be a criminal. If they can't use a gun, they will use a stick. I am also smart enough to know that preventing a citizen from something will not prevent a criminal. Just look at drugs... Illegal, but people get them. Just look at guns in Mexico... Illegal, but they have a major gun problem. Banning something from the citizens will not remove it from the criminals. Registering all of the guns will not work... Criminals are not going to follow the law and register their weapons.

1. Because it is in the Bill of Rights. The BoR's are Federal limitations and almost all of the BoR's have been incorporated to the States. Look at it this way, "Why isn't the right to free speech a local issue?" 2. Because the right to self defense should not depend on your geographical location.

Makes more sense than supporting killing unborn children and allowing people convicted of murder to remain alive. There are times when killing is justified.... To protect an innocent is one. To punish someone is debatable. But failure to use birth control should not be one.
