I think that is what makes it so 'Commie Boogeyman'. When a company does it, it is by the very definition free market. When a Govt does it and it is compulsory, it is exactly 'Commie Boogeyman'.

Agreed. I would be fine if the govt told all the people on federal HC programs that they had to stop smoking, stop eating crap, and start working out or be denied benefits. Agreed... And this is the big danger with the HC mandate. If allowed, there is basically nothing, that is legal, that the govt cannot be stopped from making you do. My parents used to tell me all the time, "When you quit living out of my wallet/purse, then you can decide what you will and will not do. Until then, we decide." I see that as perfectly reasonable. If I am paying for your lifestyle, then I get to decide if you can or cannot do something. To make this related to skydiving.... Skydiving is a HOBBY. If you are on govt HC, you should not be skydiving for fun. If you can afford 100 jumps a year, you can afford basic HC coverage. Same for smoking... An average pack of cigarettes cost almost 6 dollars that's 1500-2000 dollars a year, about 180/mth. My wife had Blue Cross with existing conditions for less than that/mth before we were married. What people want is the benefits without the sacrifice. They want HC coverage without having to sacrifice anything.

Great question.... I personally don't care how many you are with. Consenting adults should be allowed to do whatever they want with other consenting adults.... 1997 I had a friend that was looking to have a kid with her domestic partner. They both were trying to get pregnant so they both could have a kid. He should get no help, thankfully this school was not eligible for govt backed loans and student loans are not able to be expunged by bankruptcy. He was an adult that made bad choices...

What I have said is that the Govt should be investing tax dollars in the same way an individual would. And even you admitted that from an investors angle, investing in the student with an engineering degree is a much better choice than the liberal arts education.

Outliers happen in math and in life. Regional variances are not the NATIONS norm.... The average salary in the US is about 30k. That is not true in CA or NY, but that does not change the FACT that it is still the average. No, you are taking a small sample and trying to claim it represents the whole. This is what happens when people think politicians know better than you how to run your life or spend your money. Well, it did take a gun to stop this attack. And several people did pass by in the 18 mins it took police to arrive, to include an unarmed "Observer Patrol". Civil unions for everyone.... Hetero, Homo.... Everyone. Marriage is a religious term, get the Govt out of it and have it only grant civil unions for all. If a couple wants to get "married" then they can go to a church. If they want the benefits of a union recognized by the Govt, then they can get a civil union from the Govt also.
