I am younger than you and I can tell you that there was black history in MY textbooks. So please don't paint me with your views and personal experiences....I am not your generation, lots of things have changed.
-
You mean how some of your guys keep saying how America should ban guns like you did?
-
Yes, I guess it is better to watch your job dissolve and just sit around and bitch about it and expect the Gov to make it all better. Only a fool would realize that that job at the level you USED to have is gone and go get trained for a new and better job that has security. And on another note, I just got offerd a new job last night...With around a 20% pay raise. But I don't like the job nor the hours and I am doing fine and I like what I am doing.......So I really don't know what I am gonna do. Thats a nice position to be in.

If the president could stand for a third term...
DaVinci replied to speedy's topic in Speakers Corner
He did what they all did...Went along because to not go along would be career suicide. They wrote it so that later they would have an exit plan if it didn't work. If they really didn't want to use force, they should have voted no. -
I was not born in 1968. So it is quite possible that *I* have not been given and benefits for being white. Historically, yes there were issues. But today we have reverse discrimination problems. Well, I have a friend that keeps getting passed over for promotion. He has been told it is due to needing blacks and females in those positions to meet quota's. Pointing out an issue does not make you a racist IMO. Wearing a white pointy hat makes you a racist, doing things to hurt a person based on race, holding hatred towards a race makes you a racist. That *includes* blacks hating whites or mexicans hating blacks....Well really ANY combination, not just white on "X". I never know when it is either...But then again, I don't know when it is any "month".

Well, then if you do so well then why the worry about being unemployed? I noticed you never answered my question about what car you drive or how many appliances are from China in your little one bedroom apt. Funny how you bitch about outsourcing and Americans losing jobs but I bet you own a ton of Chinese made stuff. I own an American car, so don't blame me for Ford losing the most money EVER. You make some assumptions you can't back. Don't you know I am one of the "rich" living off the backs of the "poor" . I can tell you this, I do fine thanks. I OWN my own home and in no danger of losing my job to India. And if I was losing my job, I would not just sit and bitch about it . On here several times you have stated you can't find a job yet you still do nothing about it. You are the elevator man of this era...Going the way of the dodo, but YOU refuse to do anything about it. More assumptions. I have a nice job and have worked solidly for 15 years without one layoff or worries about getting laid off. I changed my career to one that could not be outsourced or done by a machine. I go to school (and not just in one career field) to continue to be flexable and able to get and keep a job. You sit jobless in a one bedroom APT and bitch about outsourcing while driving an import and watching your Sony TV. No, I care. Notice I did not call you a loser? Thats why I made suggestions as opposed to wanting you to sit and do nothing and having a harder and harder time. You are expecting to live the high life that you had...But that ship has sailed. Don't sit at the dock and bitch about it. Years ago a boss gave me a book. I do not remember the title, but the jist of it was that this generation needs to be able to not only company hop, but will have several careers in a life time. The boss that gave it to me had been a police officer, a Pharmacist, then an IT guy with CISCO before being my boss. You have a valid point the the debt is way too high. But Congress has half of the balme there. so I don't understand how you can just blame Bush. And you ignore ALL the other factors that the economy is strong. You use your personal experince of being unemployed and expect that means the economy is bad....No it means YOUR economy is bad. The country is doing well according to most economic indicators. If I don't get back to you, I'll be on Vacation for the next two weeks...Have fun with the job hunt!

Sort of...I think John was saying that even banning guns will not stop gun crime. Didn't work in England, will not work in the US. Kallend just pointed out that a country without a gun ban also has gun crime. My thoughts are that: 1. It is in the 2nd that we can have guns. For me, that is enough. 2. Gun crime is going to happen. Just look at the fact England banned them and they have increasing gun crime. As a tool of violence, a gun works so criminals will use them. In a state where guns are illegal, the law abiding citizens will be put at a disadvantage.

A swing and a miss. Nice that you can't debate facts so you attack the person. As opposed to the "I don't want to have to do anything and expect you to pay for me" crowd?

Only if those with the talent pick a job field that is dying and stick to it even though they can see the crash coming. Then that guy does not bother to pay attention to the data that shows a degree will get you more money than not having a degree. Thats not Bush's fault. Several economic experts see outsourcing the same as the assembly line. Bad for a few that refuse to see the path they are no is doomed and refuse to change...Good for the whole. Would you prefer that the whole goes to shit so you can have the job you wish? If you are as good as you say, then you can find a new career in little time. The evidence points to the fact that your dream job is not coming back and sitting, wishing, and bitching about it will not change that.

Maybe those people should have bought what they could afford and not gotten the ARM so they could afford it? Even then your own source says that more people own homes than ever before.
-
Not yet, but they will. Like I said, I know a 15 year old with his MS certification. And his Dad said he is BEHIND for his generation. I can SEE people who used to get paid tons of money getting replaced by guys fresh out of school for less than half. I can also see your jobs being shipped overseas. That tells me that your career field is dying and you will not be able to demand the large paychecks you used to. I am not in IT, but thats because I was warned not to get into it. I am amazed being part of it you can't see that you need a new career and not just keep doing the same thing and expecting all of a sudden to get a different result. You and others like you keep expecting that the spoils of the past will come back, like they are OWED to you. I am reminded of the stories about the telegraph operators bitching about the telephone. News flash, your services are no longer worth what they used to be worth...And that is not going to change. Another news flash, Outsourcing started even before CLINTON http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outsourcing More about progress : What you are doing is being a blacksmith bitching that you don't make horeshoes anymore. Don't be mad that we don't need guys to run elevators anymore...Get a different job. Notice 1999 was before Bush took office. It was the start of the Dot Com bust.

Other stuff after a quick search Same guy, and the same group: http://money.cnn.com/2007/01/16/real_estate/December_foreclosures_up_from_2005/index.htm?section=money_latest Adjustable-rate mortgages, especially subprime ARMs, continue to drive the spike in foreclosures: many of those loans are due to reset in 2007, and many of the loans written in 2006 are performing less well than in previous years. "The combination of slower home sales and rising interest rates on ARMs continues to drive foreclosures at significantly higher numbers than a year ago," said James J. Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac. Another contributor is that some lenders tried to maintain business in a slower market. To do that, some relaxed their underwriting standards, approving more marginal borrowers for loans. Overall, however, Duncan is optimistic that the pain will be minimal. He expects the economy to keep adding jobs through the rest of the year and for mortgage rates to vary little from around 6.2 percent for a 30-year fixed mortgage.

Maybe you should move to a place with lower rent and a better job market than California where you can't swing a dead cat without hitting an IT guy. Part of the problem, yes. But the thing is I thought about going to one of those schools that get you a bunch of IT certifications. My buddies who are already in the IT field (and doing quite well) told me that I was too late to get into the game. All those schools turned out a bunch of guys that made the market go flat. Think about it this way, if Chevy started making as many Corvettes as they do Cobalts. The demand would go up for a while, then the market would get saturated. Then the prices for those cars would drop. It is simple economics. Your job had a high demand and you could demand a high salary. Now it has a low demand and TONS of people willing to do it both abroad and at home. If you had a company and could hire a guy that was WAY tallented for 100,000 a year. Or a guy that could do the same job, but not quite as well for 40,000. Who would you hire? Out sourcing started under Clinton, not Bush. Once it got a foot hold it took off. The law of supply and demand took over. If people better than you can't find work, what makes you think you should be able to? Like I said a career change might be in order. There are tons of people who would take your job that are here in the states as well. But I have a buddy that just got a high paing IT job...so they are out there, but you REALLY have to be worth what you think you are...Not like it was years ago where if you could plug in a computer you could get 100k a year. No, jobs that can't be easily shipped overseas. Such as the medical field, law...Ect. If you job can be done from your home, it can be done from India and for less. 1. What kind of car do you drive? What kind of computer do you use? How many things in your appartment are from China? 2. The outsourcing problem started under Clinton...I don't blame him, it was just that companies found a cheaper way to get the job done. Once it caught on it really took off and people who once were fat cats, suddenly found themselves in trouble. You were top dog for a while, but that made others want to do your job. AND it made companies look for ways to reduce costs. Using your logic, I can claim that is BS since I had to work THREE jobs to afford a cheap apartment under Clinton. I finally got off my ass and went into a career that was worth more and has little chance of being outsourced. Other than your personal observations, the economic indicatiors show that the economy is better now than under Clinton.

The second part of that article "Saccacio noted that the number of 2005 foreclosures needed to be kept in context. “Even with almost 850,000 properties entering some stage of foreclosure across the country over the course of the year, this represents less than 1 percent of all U.S. households. And the increase in U.S. foreclosures from Q3 to Q4 was just below 5 percent....“Over the past few years, we’ve seen historically low mortgage rates, consistently escalating home prices and steady, strong employment,” Saccacio said. “This has translated into relatively low levels of foreclosure properties — particularly bank-owned properties. With interest rates rising and an apparent slowing of property valuations in most markets, we’ll be watching closely to see if there’s a material effect on the number of foreclosures in 2006.”

It is also hard to make payments when you finance yourself to the hilt and get an aRM so you can afford it. When the intrest rates go up people are finding thye can't afford the house they bought. Pretty common in a world where the average person has 8 grand in unsecured debt. Maybe they should not "shun" the jobs.
-
Total nonsense. It is not an either or problem. Look at my other post to explain it. Because people with your job title have flooded the market. 20 years ago a guy like you would be worth millions, 10 years ago a guy like you was worth hundreds of thosands, 10 years from now your job will be done by kids fresh out of high school. And the pay has been adjusted.
-
The unemployment numbers do not match your personal experience. I see tons of jobs open. If you at the top you should have no problem getting a job. I know plenty of computer guys that have good paying jobs...Not what they used to get paid, but that was before they were a dime a dozen. I am not going to insult you, but maybe you need a new carrer field. Your old position USED to be worth a bunch since there were few people who could do it. But now there are TONS of people that can do the job...Maybe not as well as you or someone with your experience, but they get the job done and they are willing to do it for less than you so they get the job. That is not anyones fault but progress. People see a good paying job, so companies create schools to teach it, and people flock to them. Then those graduates flood the market and since you are no longer worth so much your pay drops. That is a free market at work. You should blame all the people who started these computer schools. Like I said, not going to call you anything. But the simple fact is due to the reduced demand you are not worth what you were. Hell, I know high school kids with Microsoft Certifications now....His dad (an IT guy) told me that if he didn't get it at 15 he would be BEHIND the people out there. So maybe you need to find a new career field?

It is called Earth, third planet from the sun. With your views, I don't think you would like it here. Seriously, you can't debate the topic so you try some third grade response?

It puts him in a better position to talk about the economy and legal issues that a song writter, or play write.

"Without question, we need to disarm SH"-Kerry and then he voted to support the use of force. -
Stock market is at its highest EVER. More people own homes than EVER, unemloyment is lower than it has been in years. Like it or not while you may wish for the economy to be bad, the indicators used by the financial world point to the economy being better than it has been in a number of years...And this is after 9/11 and the dot com bust.

WTC 93, Cole, WTC 01...They hate us already. Seems to have some attacks in Spain, and England as well. I'd rather be safe than liked. Both would be nice, but you don't always get what you want. You would be surprized what could still happen. Maybe not a ground pounding force, but whe hae plenty of ships and aircraft available. And they thought we were safe before 9/11. Simple fact is that we are not safe, nor will we be safe again.

No, but he is more of a scholar than Haggard.
-
Stein was a speach writter for Nixon and Ford. He has a JD, A trial lawyer for the FTC, he TAUGHT about civil rights and securities law. As for Haggard: So I think a guy that taught law and finance know more about the state of the economy than a guy that has a GED and a rap sheet. EDIT: I like his music, but I'd rather have Stein handle my money and value his opinon on legal matters more.

There is a big difference between then and now. Like, several hundered years.
