To hell in a hand basket huh?? As the skydiver pulled his ripcord, he thought to himself, “I sure hope this opens”. Then, he remembered, there’re really only two things to worry about, weather it opens or not. If it opens, there’s nothing to worry about. If it doesn’t open, there’re only two things to worry about. Whether you’re reserve opens or not. If the reserve opens, there’s nothing to worry about. If it fails, there’re only two things to worry about. Weather you live or die. If you live, there’s nothing to worry about. If you die, there are only two things to worry about, if you’re going to Heaven or Hell. If you go to Heaven, there’s nothing to worry about. If you go to Hell, you’ll be too busy shaking hands with all the skydivers to worry! So true!! See you all there. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

Free Packing Strato stars and Clouds
skyjumpenfool replied to McGonigal's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
30 years ago, I used a strap on my old standard weight Cloud. However, in those days the standard freefall rate was much slower (remember the baggy heavyweight suits or even balloon suites). Anyway, I still got popped hard every time I dumped. At today’s higher speeds, I don’t think I’d want to do that again. As for malfunctions, those older and much slower canopies didn’t go into extreme spinning nightmares that these new canopies do. Just the other day, I managed to capture on video an experienced jumper cutting away from a high speed spinning mal. Even in slow motion replay it looked very scary. F-111 and ZP are two different animals. As for straps, probably ok for crew but I wouldn’t recommend it for terminal. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -
All you have to do is ask yourself... "To what end"? If you’re very clear in your answer to this question, you can make up your own mind. Oh my God, that sounds philosophical! I'm sorry, please disregard this post. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

I guess I need to apologize to everyone?? I thought the OP was looking to see what everyone’s opinion was on this subject. And then, interpret those opinions to help settle a dispute. I didn’t realize he was looking to find out who is “right” and who is “wrong”?????? Anyway, I’m sorry I voiced my ideas earlier in this thread, not knowing I had to be “right” and that any “outside the box” brainstorming was unacceptable. So, once again, please disregard my earlier ideas and realize I misunderstood the OP’s original question. (now smiling) Or, just lighten the hell up, and allow people to throw out ideas in an attempt to stimulate discussion without bringing on personal attacks. Or not! There are other dz's that may have a big boy rig for you. It may be cheaper to take a vacation and travel to that location than it is to buy (and probly modify) a sport rig. Call around and see if that might be a better, more cost effective, alternative. It'd be a bummer to make one jump and decide this sport isn't for you after you've bought and modified a rig??$$$$$ Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

You're absolutely right. However, I want to be remembered as the guy that found a way to survive!!! After all, I'm an asshole and a braggart. I want to be the one telling the story. And, I want a chance to embellish it. Oh, what a story I’ll tell. No shit, there I was…….… Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -
Thoughts before "going in"

O.K. This question I can speak to... I had an "opportunity" to ride a ball of crap (spinning streamer)in from 500 feet. What went through my mind was, "Problem solving"! What can I do to straighten this crap out. I worked at it until the very last second. Then, just before impact, I pretended I was cliff diving from 90 feet and the water was hard. I was determined to survive. I punched at the ground just like I was trying to break the surface of water. To make a very long story short, you fight to the end! You call in all your knowledge and skill to do whatever you can. Hopefully, luck is on your side. But, the key is to keep working the situation. Yes, once! But I later found out I wasn't using it correctly. Apparently, creativity wasn't part of the product development study. And, the manufacturer wouldn't honor the warranty. Another $3 down the drain???? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

Balloon Jump (didn't get out)
skyjumpenfool replied to chrismgtis's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
For what it's worth, here's my skydiving philosophy... If it's something you really want to do, go for it! If it's something you really don't want to do, what's the point?? You made a decision not to jump. There’s no disgrace in that. The important question here is, was this your first time landing in a balloon? ……….Beer! Gymnasts use this technique because (physically) you can only do so many routines in a day. As a gymnast, I use to do 3 more routines on every event, in my head, before I would go to sleep at night. Also, try doing “what if's"... what if this or that were to happen?? I'd visualize what I'd do if certain problems/scenarios would occur. Visualizing various scenarios in your head makes it much easier to handle the "shit" when it hits the fan. This is a great technique practicing emergency situations. How about this... No matter how you change the design, someone will post on some forum somewhere, bitching-n-moaning about how the new insignia doesn't reflect their interests and concerns. What would you replace it with that’d work for everyone?? Answer that, and I'm all for changing it... Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

I once started a policy that anytime a fellow skydiver lost their job, I'd buy them a skydive or two. I think it was a jinx though... the very next weekend, all the jumpers at the DZ had lost their jobs?? I should have that second morgage payed off in a couple years. Hang in there!
