  1. .......And just for the record, this is summer here!!!! The one thing minnesotans know is, "if you don't like our weather, wait 5 minutes!! See you all at the DZ as soon as the sky clears. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  2. I had a chance to jump the PD Storm this year. I was very impressed! It's a great CRW canopy if that's what your thinking. Soft openings, excellent flight charactoristics, powerful flair, soft landings. Although I demo'd it as a Crew canopy, IMHO, it would make a very good all around canopy. But, so would about 30 others. Do your homework and let us know which direction you take. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  3. A GPZ is as close as you can get to a ZX. Keep riding and when your healthy, make your decision about jumping. see you then! Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  4. Yes! I do remember when pilots had a sense of humor. However, times are a changing... http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3435738;search_string=pilot;#3435738 I got blasted the day I posted this, and I suppose I'll be getting nasty PM's again........... Oh, and I agree with PLFKING, "Scary stories from the old days" is a great read. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

  6. My dad had just bought a new camera. A "Super 8mm film camera. I burned up a roll of film recording the live TV broadcast of the event. I still have the reel. Going now to click on your link and listen..... Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  7. Hey Remster, post that xscuseless.gif thingy here again for Skymama.... Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  8. Yah... I'm thinking you have nothing to worry about. But, to make an informed well educated statement here, I'm going to need to see the photos! Also, video of the incident would definitely be helpful (or at very least, entertaining). Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  9. How about Minneapolis?? Home to companies like Honeywell, Pillsbury, 3M, General Mills, Medtronic’s, Target, just to name a few. We have a huge printing/advertising industry, excellent manufacturing base including arguably the largest medical based manufacturing in the world. Cost of living is very reasonable. Its home to great people with top notch theatre and arts. Beautiful lakes, rivers and scenery abound. A short drive from Canada with several, quality DZ's nearby. we also boast professional Baseball, Hockey, Basketball, Football, etc. Now, to talk about the negatives... Weather!!! Our summers are beautiful!! Warm days followed by cool nights. But it does get a bit nippy in the winter. If you're acclimated to the cold, you'll find our winters discourage immigrants who are weak at heart. But, they do keep the riff raff from staying around. (except for me of course ) The Twin Cities offers inner city urban living, farming lifestyles, hobby farms, suburban communities, lakeshore homes, and just about everything in between. All within reach of a great transportation system to the city. Before you make a decision, check us out. If you'd like to come visit, just give us a call. You see, we have this thing called "Minnesota Nice"!! Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  10. Image stabalization = Sony! Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  11. After landing, I just face into the wind and keep my canopy inflated above me for several minutes. It's not hard to do but you may have to run a bit on low wind days. Although, some of the "Grumpier" Skygods get a little upset about that "Asshole with the inflated canopy in the landing area again". Save money and piss off the “Skygods”..... Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

  16. I'm a hunter and I spend a lot of time on paper company managed land in northern Wisconsin and Minnesota. Every once in a while they clear cut a section of land for paper production. They then replant that land and let it sit for as many years as it takes for those seedlings to grow. This has been going on for over a hundred years. So, the whole "save a tree" thing is a little ridiculous. What you tree huggers need to do is get out and enjoy the land our paper companies are managing. Especially the first couple of years after a section has been clear cut. It's amazing to see the grouse that move in after the ground brush gets thick. Followed by the fox, etc., you get the idea... 17. I did a 2 way camp earlier this year with Chris Gay and Jim Rasmussen... Had a great time and learned a ton. I was truly amazed at Chris’s ability to teach the “technology” of 2X Crew. I left the camp more interested in doing another 2 way CRW jump than any sort of larger formation. However, as stated above, CRW requires additional gear and training. Back in the day, we all jumped F-111's and every skydive culminated in a CRW portion of the jump. Most of the experienced jumpers had some CRW background and we learned from them. Today’s experienced jumpers use highly wing loaded elliptical canopies with razor lines and the mentality is “stay away”! At Baldwin, some of us old timers started doing CRW again by putting together some old F-111 rigs and recruiting newer jumpers to give it a try. Even though we’ve grown a small base of CRW jumpers, it’s hard to organize and recruit. However, if you want to grow CRW, follow Sandy’s advice above. I learned from Chris this summer that 2 way CRW is very fluid and extremely challenging. Develop a league and teach the discipline. The NPSL model may work but the key is to start from the grass roots and build from there. Scooby... you may have to travel to learn and then bring that back to your DZ. Or, call Jim or Chris and convince them to come to you. Jim came to Baldwin this spring and brought several newer PD Storms. We had a great time and learned alot. Chris... If you want to grow CRW, take your show on the road. Show others what you showed us this spring and I garantee you'll find takers. Take it from a very old CReW Pup... 2 way CRW is a blast!! 18. No shit, there I was...... again! Hanging on the camera step and being peeled off by a stall. Even though the pilot took full responsibility for the incident, I feel like an idiot because I didn't let him know of the large exit group prior to exit. As I climbed into the plane, I noticed one of our most experienced jumpers, a guy with tens of thousands of jumps who never misses a step, sitting towards the front of the plane. And, I foolishly assumed he would let the pilot know about the large group leaving the plane. Of course, this would not be the case. So, once again, we found ourselves in a completely avoidable situation. It's no wonder the "Sultan" doesn't trust skydivers. This was not the fault of the pilot alone no matter how quickly he accepts responsibility. We skydivers need to communicate with our pilots! I for one will personally talk to a PAC pilot about large exit groups no matter how many others may have already done so. Even at the risk of being repetitive. Just like doing pin checks or setting our AAD’s, communicating with pilots is a vital safety issue. Every dirt dive needs to include a discussion about the exit, how to do it safely and how we intend to communicate the plans to the pilot. And, we’re not just talking about PAC’s here. Bottom line… “Communicate your plans with your pilots!!!” Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

  20. Canon also sells a filter adapter which can help protect the lens... however, at full zoom the lens hits the filter and at full wide angle the adapter vignettes the corners. Not a very good design. I just found an adapter from Lens Mate that converts to a 72mm filter and does not vignette at full wide angle. Seems to work very well. http://www.lensmateonline.com/ A little spendy but a good design. Everything is mounted and ready to go... Now I just have to figure out the camera and what settings to use??? Any help is appreciated. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

  24. Isn't the reason for this thread to get the word out and to educate? Indeed, as stated above, this is a relatively new jump ship to most of us. Hopefully everyone, students and experienced alike are learning something about this aircraft. I know I am. It’s my understanding, that this particular version of the PAC was designed (or maybe more accurately, modified) specifically for skydiving. Is there an official set of guidelines concerning exits, exit timing, floaters, CG, etc??? Does the Manufacturer have any information available?? Pilots… tell us what you know!!
