    Karl & Merriah Eakins from Team Flewid have been doing what they call Student Olympics for a few years now at Skydive Twin Cities. They also have taken the show on the road to several other DZ's. It's designed with students in mind. Lot's of fun and well recieved by students and up jumpers as well. I can't speak for them, but, they are great people and always willing to share ideas. Also, I believe they wrote a couple articles in Parachutist about the event. Contact them or PM me and I'll give you their #'s

    Yeah; I think I made about my first 70 jumps or so landing backwards. Piece 'o cake. (Feet & knees together, please.) Hell, I want my R-3's back. Cut one side away... problem solved. Seriously though, landing while backing up should not be that big a deal. It must have been pretty windy to drag that many jumpers. were these low time jumpers?     I don't have one. It's not a personal preference, I think they're a good idea. I just decided not to pay that much for one. I'll probly buy one as soon as I can afford one??     We go back farther than that. I remember Vern Gagne, Mad Dog Veschone, and my favorite; The Crusher. Do you remember the guy that never won a match? They always anounced him as "The very capable... Kenny Jay!" I always liked the Superstar. One of the first real athletes of the sport.     Experience cannot always be measured in simple numbers. So, how about developing a rubric which takes into account many things like; - time in sport - total number of jumps -average number of jumps per year -most jumps in one year - least jumps in one year -training courses attended -tunnel time -number of jumps in various disciplines -successful cutaway/reserve rides -number of broken bones -personal recommendations -etc. Let's face it; we all develop skills/ knowledge in different ways.     Sorry, I've forgotten this is the forums where every word is taken littearly. To clarify, I don’t yell at kids. I do call them on bullshit behavior and I do expect them to treat the people around them with respect. I do not, however, believe in codling kids or enabling them to get away with murder. What I was trying to point out in my previous post was the incredable amount of "Crap" that some of these kids bring to school with them. A lot of baggage walks thru our front doors. I think a defeatest attitude like that and no faith in the positive potential of your youth is your bigger problem. [/Reply] I wasn’t talking about the kids! I was talking about what will happen if we don’t find a way to deal with the situation. This behaivior is being passed down from gereration to generation.     Just after opening, the OP does some hard turns which eats up some altitude early. Had he not done this (Although, it's his right to make hard turns in clear space if he wants) he would have stayed above all the higher performance canopies. Thus, not putting him in this position. No argument here! That was clearly bullshit. It was not my intention to point fingers at the OP. Being this is the S&T forum, my intention was to discuss ways for the OP to steer clear of these situations in the first place. Let's face it, we see this scenario play out all the time. As for the camera, anyone who truly thinks it was not a contributing factor is wrong. OP... You are not in the wrong here. But, there are things we can do to avoid these situations in the future.     I respectfully disagree! This has everything to do with the camera!!!! If the OP had not made the hard turns early, looked around to see where traffic was, there may have been no incident. My wild guess is, the OP did the hard turn for the "cool camera effect". Just a guess on my part, granted, but look closely at the video. On behalf of the OP, that guy had no business hooking in front of him. OP... Thanks for posting this. Would you be willing to share the rest of the video, the parts that were edited out?     We have a more "mixed bag" here. The kids you refer to will be the downfall of this country. It's not really their fault! They were born into "Crap"and have to live "Crap" every day. The sad truth of this situation is, me yelling at them for their disrespectful, insobordinate, "CRAP" behaivior is the best part of their day. Keep cutting teachers pay and bennifits!     Doug... I find two things concerning; 1. the hidden links back to the Area DZ's 2. The way in which you list the non-pro DZ's to woofos! See the attached screen shot. You don't even bother to keep the DZ and city the dz does business lined up. It appears to be an intentional mistake, kinda like an "accident on purpose". I truely hope these are just startup glitches? As I said in my previous post... We'll be watching! At this point, so will the attorney general from the state I live in.     Situation 2 (from the gear reviews) "Pros: Sweet openings, sweet turns, sweet swoops, sweet everything! Cons: It costs money :( I started jumping a Stiletto 135 at 40 jumps loaded at 1.3:1. Soft openings and really quick turns were my favorite atributes about the canopy. It also had good shut-down power at the end of the flare. 9 times out of 10, I didn't have to take a step when I touched down after a little turf surfin'. At 160 jumps I snagged a Stiletto 107. With a wing loading around 1.8:1, I started having a little more fun. Harness turns are really responsive, toggle turns are smokin' fast, and the front riser pressure is low. This canopy also has a quick dynamic stall, so don't hang on to the rears for too long on your swoops. (My ass is still sore... haha) In conclusion, this is a sweet canopy, and the "spinetto" callsign isn't true." How many jumps do I have? ...and this time, no peaking!     Hmm. This is Safety & Training, is it not? O.P. Skydiving, in any form, is an extreame sport! There are risks which include DEATH! I'm a believer that anyone considering this sport should be told this and be made to understand it. So, don't be afraid to say so. Tell them the risks and let them make up their own mind.
