Okay, does this one verifiable incident justify banning C-License holders from using cameras? Does it justify requiring camera flyers to use an RSL? Don't worry, just leave the thinking to me. @ sacex250... By now, you must be feeling like you're being targeted and picked on. Keep in mind, these are well intentioned, experienced people responding to your post. Maybe you should ask yourself why so many experienced jumpers are on the attack here... And by the way, there is a really good way for any Newb to get good video of his/her jump. Just walk up to an experienced camera flyer and ask them along on your next jump. Most will go out of their way to accomodate you. And, the video will be of a quality that you'll be proud to show your friends on FB. Whatever happened to jumping out of airplanes for the fricking fun of it????? Read my profile and you'll see my favorite thing to do is embellish old stories into legends! If we had all these cameras back in the day, everyone would be able to prove what a fricken lier I am. I think cameras should be banned from the sport. Now, you’ll have to excuse me, we’re about to do another 30 point 6 way. -

There's nothing wrong with a student geeking the camera from time to time. After all, we're here to have some fun. it's students wearing the camera that is at issue! Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -

Now we've gone from talking about seat belts to cloud clearances. let's not mudy the water. Again, other than inconvenience/uncomfortable, what is a valid reason for not wanting to wear a seat belt during take off? Because no one that's cool wears a seatbelt????? If you've been around as long as your profile says, I'm sure you remember those days. I can still remember my 1st boogie, Skyvan with a ramp type tailgate, never closed the gate, sitting on the outside edge of the tailgate hanging on to a seat belt for dear life but not buckled because no one did that. It's not that many years ago that wearing a seatbelt went from uncool to cool. Wow! I'm really hoping your answer to my question was a satirical response? I can remember a ton of shit we did back "in the day". Probelm is, we now know better. Well, at least we should. I still have not seen a good reason not to wear a belt. And, my question remains.. Is there something I've missed? To the OP... Nicely done!

Wow!! I'd have been gone 30 years ago. Sometime the light doesn't come on right away. Sometimes, we have to re-teach. And sometimes, re-re-teach. The bottom line, I've found, is the teacher has to be more stuborn than the student? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -
I'm curious if this female jumper has given any reason or rational for not wanting to wear the belt? Aside from being a hassle/inconvenience, I don't see a downside to strapping in. Or, has this just turned into a Power & Control issue? It seems to me, if this is just her being "pissy", she has picked a really bad battle to fight. This is where I start all my photography students. Kodak.com has a great tips and tutoral section... http://exchange.kodak.com/lessons/2802-Composing_Your_Photos Be a good photographer first. It's easier to learn photography on the ground than it is at 200mph with those pesky lines and nylon wraping around everything... Can you post a screen shot of your "frame"? It'd be interesting to see what your talking about. One thing you could do for now (until you're comfortable getting closer) would be to use your Zoom. Keep in mind, if you zoom in even just a touch, head/camera movement will become magnified. However, that will help you to learn to keep your head still?? Just a thought. Also, what lense are you using? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

Phones are good. Or, convince all your jumping friends to quit skydiving and take up bowling? Hey.... I'm just brainstorming. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -
Uhm... This may not need to be said, but, let the formation know where you’re going and make sure they’re OK with what you’re trying. If they’re uncomfortable with you getting to close, they'll let you know. Respect their concerns!! If you crash the party unannounced, people tend to get pissy. One thing you (like the rest of us) will need to consider is; can my skydiving cause any long term health risk that I'm not willing to accept in the near future. Everyone will answer that differently, but what's important is that you answer that question (to yourself) honestly. It may be that skydiving is not for you? Take the advice above, and see a good doctor. Preferably a sports/medicine specialist. Infact, see several. -
I'd add rigger, instructor or experienced jumper to that. I would agree 100% with the rigger or instructor. I don't know why I said packer. I would tend to ask my instructor, since that's who is supervising me. Are you excluding experienced jumpers from your set of people who could/should help? And if so, why? You can be an instructor with just 500 jumps. You can be a rigger with zero jumps. On the other hand, there are experienced non-instructor non-rigger jumpers who have thousands of jumps and decades of experience - you shouldn't deem them unworthy of the ability to help. They've probabaly untangled more chutes than many of your instructors and riggers. For the most part (not always) an insturctor is more likely to walk you thru the process so you learn how to do it. An experienced person is more likely to "do you a favor" and do it for you. More than likely, you'll learn more from the instuctor. Teach a man how to fish??
