  1. I just started using Vegas Studio with my Video Production students, so, I'm asking questions that may be remedial to some.... sorry, but what does the force resample do? And, what does the plug ins do better? We just started doing green screens and adding effects to "blow things up" The more I do the more I want to learn.
  2. O.K. So, next NPSL.... Um.... I'm busy filming other teams. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  3. pchap... I'm glad you weighed in to give us some "actual advice" Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  4. OK, for us Vegas Newbs... what does it do? Can't you slow down motion in Vegas without this? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  5. I do respect this rigger. I also respect his personal policy. It's his policy to not pack rigs of this age, regardless of its condition. He was very honest and told me the rig is in very good condition for its age and that it's very airworthy. He also informed me that he would no longer be willing to make repairs on it (should it need repairs in the future). I respect his right to make that decision as well. He did not say this rig was ready to be retired. Had he told me that, I’d have retired it, because I respect his opinion. When this rig is ready to be retired, I will retire it. I also know this rigger will insist on its retirement if he thinks it’s due. My point to the OP was to check in with his rigger. Sometimes even airworthy gear has a downside. OP.... Consider resale value into the equation. If you can find a newer rig for sale and buy it cheap enough, you can jump it for a couple years then sell it for most of what you paid. The "cost per jump" might be less even though you paid more up front. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  6. ......Not to mention, The OP doesn't even state his weight, physical condition, etc. But, you're still advising a smaller canopy??? WWWTP (what's wrong with this picture) To the OP... I use a very good rigger. He will not pack my old Javlin because it's old enough to drink. It's a great rig and I use it as my second rig, but I have to find someone else to pack it. ....Check with a rigger. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  7. First of all, what plane are you jumping from? I'd recommend you talk to an instructor and ask him/her to work with you on exits when the plane is on the ground. Practice getting out from the student position over and over. A good instructor can give you tips and hints and help you build muscle memory. Asking an insturctor for help is not a sign of weakness!! Rather, it shows you're eager to learn. Good luck!
  8. Yup! I'd be up for a long drive to sit in on an airport commission meeting to show solidarity and support your effort. Let us know how we can help. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  9. Welcome to skydiving!! A sport that taught many of us how to "hurry up and wait". Oh, and buy a hacky sac. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  10. There's an old saying.... "Skydiving will cost you everything you have and half your pay check for the rest of your life!" Personally, I've found this not to be true. It takes way more than half. As for your first rig, check around your local DZ's. There's always "That Guy" who knows where all the used rigs are and has a handle on what's available. As stated above, when you find gear that you like, ALWAYS have it checked out by a trusted rigger. If you haven't yet built a relationship with a good rigger, it's time to start. Good luck and we'll see you at 13K. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  11. Maybe we should post these comments on that site... I did. Looks like they could use some +++'s Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  12. As in all things in life, this situation begs only one question... "Does my decision comply with the 10 commandments?" I think this situation is covered in the third commandment, "Cover thyn own ass first"!!! Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  13. Neither the cutaway or the hook knife are easy to use when your neck is broken!! Spend some time and effort to eliminate any and all possible snag points. ..... that whole "ounce of prevention" thingy?
  14. Couch Freaks a few years ago, a high speed, low pass was done. A few brave souls attempted a 4 way and several AAD's fired. To make a long story short, one jumper successfully landed a side by side. We watched as a couple two out situations turn into down planes. It was not pretty. Since then, I've played this scenario in my mind over and over. Being and old CRW Pup, how about this... If altitude permits, and, if you have CRW experience, turn the two out situation into a down plane and then chop the Main. If you've ever let go of someone in a CRW down plane, you’d see those canopies quickly fly away from each other. I'm not suggesting anyone do this, I'm just putting it out there for discussion. 15. Uhmm... wasn't that the pic related to "Spanking isn't bad for your hand?" Sorry, could not resist. (ducking...) No. You might be thinking of the "side affects of picking your nose" thread that got locked a few years back? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  16. Um?? There's nothing "FREE" about it. USPA (you and me) is flipping the bill in the form of a "loan". How is that free? So, to be accurate, this is way worse than a free demo. As the Dropzone Turns... Episode 3... Stitch, the old rigger who lives in the canvas tent down by the tree line, is arrested by Officer Banger (the new "Lady Cop" in town). He convinces her he's not a vagrant by taking her for a "FREE" Tandem ride. In the process, Stitch introduces her to the Mile High club. Officer Banger reappears in episode 8. She earns another FREE skydive by busting Shutter on a bogus drug charge. Jillian is not happy! Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  17. There are good DZ's that opperate all winter. Call around and I bet you could get your A by X-mass. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

  19. Wow! Anytime you start thinking your're a hot shot "Mad Skillz" canopy pilot, just take one look at that bird flying those wings onto his hand. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  20. Absolutely not bad for you. I've been doing it for years and my knuckles are fine. Here, take a look....... see attachment.
  21. scene one: Lutz, the yuppie lawyer throws his brand new gear bag in his hybrid SUV as he spots a character in a rather worn looking jumpsuit who appears to be grazing the small patch of grass next to the large hangar - as the camera zooms in we recognise Shutter, the camera guy that just broke up with Jillian. 'What are you doing there?' Lutz asks him. 'Well you see dude, camera flying has been kind of slow lately with everybody jumping GoPro's and Contours and al the TI's carrying one on the back of their hand - a fellow HAS to eat, now doesn't he?' Shutter replies. Lutz looks puzzled and says: "O No - this is unethical! I can't bear the thought that any of my new found skydiving friends has to eat the grass of the DZ in order to sustain!- Come, jump into my car and drive home with me' wash and wax my new BMW and I'll buy you a Big Mac. Fixed it for you... Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  22. Here is something I'm sure USPA hasn't thought of.... When all is said and done, I'm left wondering how this situation will affect my decision next time I'm given the opportunity (USPA renewal form) to color in that little check box to donate money to the US Team? Don't get me wrong, I support the US Team. But only to a point. USPA dues are getting expensive. Then add in all the fees for ratings, certificates, etc. and it all adds up. Now I'm left with a sour taste in my mouth over this situation. USPA should be listening when I say this! After all, you’re MY/OUR organization. This is a BAD idea and I am vehemently opposed to a USPA loan for this purpose. I feel as though I’m left with only one recourse here, to no longer donate to Team USA. The problem, I suspect, is that this whole demo team plan has nothing to do with the US Team. I do hope I’m wrong. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  23. I was born in Fond du Lac and now live in Minnesota. That area west of Hayward is where our family owned a cabin for years. It is one of the most beautiful areas I know. I love hunting there so much, I've gone without a gun many years when I couldn't afford the out of state license. That being said... I feel your pain! Sending good thoughts your way. If, when the smoke clears, you need help picking up the mess, I'd be willing to come over and help. I have summers off and love to pitch a tent. All you have to do is ask!! 24. Amy: You can't blame yourself. When your pre-frontal cortex fails to make you happy, promiscuity rewards you with the needed flood of Dopamine. We neurobiologists refer to it as the Skank reflex"! Sheldon: Scissors cuts paper, paper covers rock, rock crushes lizard, lizard poisons Spock, Spock smashes scissors, scissors decapitates lizard, lizard eats paper, paper disproves Spock, Spock vaporizes rock, and as it always has, rock crushes scissors.
