Downsizing Question
skyjumpenfool replied to jsfirefighter88's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That's great advice....... but, like you, everybody is above average! Just ask them? Maybe a better way to access your skill is to ask a (or better yet, several) qualified instructor? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -
Sounds like you've downsized 4 times in 60 jumps? That's 15 jumps per canopy? Sometimes, putting it into perspective sheds new light. Maybe he's a natural at this I was trying really hard not to make any assumptions here. I simply was doing the math out loud. To the OP... I'm not buying the "it's too big and slow" line. That 170 is a great canopy to learn a lot about canopy flight. Play with it up high. Get it to turn, dive, spin, and stall. Find it's limits. (ask an instructor how to do this) Have you pulled the right toggle slightly while also pulling the left Front riser? See what that does. Have you figured out the best way to get back from a long spot with that canopy? There is soooo much more to be learned from that 170..... What have I done? What to do, what to do?
skyjumpenfool replied to xlh883's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
"No beer"? Well the "what to do" part is easy... find a different DZ! One that has a beer fridge. Welcome back. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -

Yep... and they've been flying circles around young pups for years. Look, if "People in this thread just sound old." is your best argument here, put the camera away and go make a couple hundred jumps with some old farts. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

Jim Marshall (Vikings) skydiving info
skyjumpenfool replied to NEcrewDOG's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
I don't remember Marshall every jumping at Osceolla? Or, Baldwin, Chip, Soup, Stanton, etc. I'll ask around and get back to you. Maybe Mootz or Goz would know? I do, however, remember him playing football. He was an animal! One very tough guy!! Part of the original Purple People Eaters I believe. Not really you have to remember one major point, those are all very small cameras, hardly weight anything and besides that, they just sit there, I mean it's not like he is doing any real work to be distracted from. Also with them being so small, non distracting and mounted proper.... their not a snag hazard. You forgot to use the sarcasm font. OP... I'm not a fan of the GoPro mounts because they stick up so high. That being said, what if you put both cameras in the center with one forward and lower. Top and Front? And, be aware of parallax when you set everything up. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

uspa membership insurance
skyjumpenfool replied to Alba-Mike's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
As I understand the insurance, it does not cover other USPA members. So, looks like you'll be assisting in the re-injury of some collar bones? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -
Just your 221 jumps worth of 2 cents? I know that seems like a lot, but revisit this when you have 2210 jumps. I think you'll understand the difference. To the OP... the attached is for you..... Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

If you need a camera to debrief, maybe coaching is not for you.

Better check again Taterman...the guy who took the PAC last saturday hasn't brought it back yet. Hey! I was wondering where our new PAC came from. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

Uhmmm? You! And, Marks right. Don't reinvent the wheel. Unless you want to pay more for pack jobs. Yes, the cost of the training/certifying/retraining/etc. would get passed down to the customer. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

B license, jumping with a tandem?
skyjumpenfool replied to blueraincap's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
^^^^This I watched a gal talk her way onto a tandem skydive. She was not as current or skilled as she thought. I was flying camera and she scared the hell out of me and the TI. Her son was the PAX and he never saw her anyway. She was everywhere except where she was suppose to be. At one point, she was dangerously close to the drogue. There is good advice above. Let the tandem student enjoy the skydive experience. Don't "horn in" on that experience. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -
Than why are you trying to organize a 32 way when a 40way has already been done? Is that farther, higher, faster or better? The 40 way should be a state record. No argument here. But, it's not. For whatever reason, they did not do the paper work. I'd love to see that record in the books. Especially considering when it was done. That skydive has nothing to do with organizing a 32 way record attempt. We can still attempt to build an "official" record. Some day, I hope to be part of the group that breaks the 40. Until then, we'll keep working our way up. That, DQ, is how you improve and develop the local talent. The record is not what's important. Developing skydivers and building the talent pool is. We (many of us) learned a lot last year. Even though we were unsuccessful. Next time we have an opportunity (the planes) we'll be better qualified to go after that 40 way. I'm not sure why that's a bur under your saddle? But, I'm hoping you can get behind us knowing the 40 way is our ultimate goal.

don't have to buy beer after 1000 jumps?
skyjumpenfool replied to ridebmxbikes's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I remember when buying beer was a "badge of honor" and we all celebrated someone's "opportunity" to pony up (pun intended). I'm not sure what some are bitching about, but why don't I buy the next case of beer and we'll trade stories. Salute! Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
