The buddy system. It works for scuba diving. The question is; how to implement it, and how to enforce it? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -

GoPro Hero4 for professional tandem video?
skyjumpenfool replied to BeauRiebe's topic in Photography and Video
You're absolutely correct! It's based on blood, pain, suffering and even death. All things you (or any of us) are not immune to. I's say it's time to learn from the experiences of others. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -
Mark stated very nicely what I was thinking. Your quote above I believe to be incorrect. Your trying to ask a question that, inaccurately in my view, backs up your position. When in fact, it clearly shows that YOU are the one with the closed mind. In light of good, sound, factual information from several experienced (and by experienced I mean they have more than 10 times the jumps or years in the sport than you) skydivers, you continue to argue your incorrect stance. So, I'll answer your "loaded" question this way... I would jump with either of the jumpers from your scenario before I'd jump with you. You are right about one thing, It really doesn't have anything to do with jump #'s or time in sport. Now, I'm assuming that you're probably not as bad as all that. But, I don't know you and I've only your posts to base that decision on. Being more open minded, I'm willing to listen to rebuttal arguments? I'd suggest a fresh approach however. How fit should a skydiver be?
skyjumpenfool replied to Ramzisleiman's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The skydiver should fit in the plane. Sure! But, the problem is, some don't leave room for the rest of us to "fit in the plane". Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -
Wendy, One other thing I do, if they want to test drive a cycle... If (and only if) they are serious about buying, I allow them to test drive it. But, I make them write me a check for the full sale amount, or, turn over the cash first. Then I explain, if they crash, they own it. It's theirs, they bought it. If they return it in good condition and decide it's not for them, I return the money/check and we part no worse for wear. I've bought and sold many bikes this way.

Yep!! I did. I also broke my back in 3 places. I was a very lucky puppy. It took a couple years and a lot of work, but I fully recovered and now (at age 58) do everything I want.... ski, jump, run, water ski, you name it. The body is an amazing thing, give it time and it will heal. Find a good doc that understands active lifestyles. Take care of yourself and do what it takes to heal. Then, enjoy your life. Eleven years later... He probably doesn't even know, that he ever jumped any of the canopies by now. Go and revive some more usefull threads =) Both canopies are still being built? His question is still valid and this is a great place to ask. Plus, he clearly spent some time digging around. How about we cut him some slack? When flying outside vid, I like the Stiletto because it will get me back when the last TI out the door takes us long. I found the Katana ground hungry for my taste. As stated above, it's gonna depend on your personal preferences. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

The Mlps/St.Paul skydiving community is a great group. Weather is always an issue here. Many do jump year round but you need to be a hearty soul. It's an active group of individuals that, when skydiving is not an option, will get together to snowmobile, fish, hunt, shoot, climb, kayak, ski, water ski, bike, ride cycles, party, or whatever else one can imagine. They have a Facebook group where they organize activities or communicate plans. Hope to see you here soon.... Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

How to know when its time to downsize
skyjumpenfool replied to Brad2's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hmmm? Dizzy.com has a great archive of "Am I ready to downsize" threads. Do some research.... http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=search_results&search_forum=all&search_string=Downsizing&sb=score&mh=25 Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -
Hmm? It seems to me this is the "type" we should be reaching out to. Let me explain.... I've always felt the real "Sky Gods" are the ones with serious skills born over time through hard work and dedication to the sport. There's a lot of these guys/gals around, but, they are hard to recognize because they usually don't call attention to themselves. You see, they're too busy working on their craft. Also, I've found that the real "sky gods" go out of their way to pass on their knowledge/skills to us lesser experienced. They usually do this without expectation of payment or recognition. They just know that to make better skydives, they need to develop a bigger group of skilled people around them. This "type" as you call them, just need to have a real Sky God take them under their wing for a bit. They'll learn the way. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

^^^^ This!! What Normiss said! Hey Kimmy, I'm still waiting for that invitation (threat of subpoena) to come and chat with you (testify in court) that you offered (threatened) a year or so ago. Please! I have much to say to you and your followers. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -
I'm sorry, who are you again? I'm horrible with names. Always was and it's getting worse. As a teacher, I work with about 500 students a year. The names I remember from the grade book, the faces I remember from the classes, putting the two together is were I struggle. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

Looking for the NEEDS and DON'T need in a RW suit
skyjumpenfool replied to Safelandings's topic in Gear and Rigging
I just got my new Bev Suit in the mail. (side note: after a small problem/wrong color, Bev took care of it and I'm absolutely happy with the suit. Best Customer Service Ever!) I also found ordering the "right" options to be a little confusing. My advice.... talk to one of Bev's Sales Reps. I went to our local dealer and he walked me thru everything. He helped me choose the right options based on my flying style, body type, jumping ability, needs, etc. Everyone is different and everyone needs a suit built for them. Bev's dealers are very good at helping you with that. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -
What the hell is a rip cord? Don't most modern rigs just have a silver handle? Yes, terminology is important here because us newbs are reading this. We get confused easily and need good info. Or, maybe that's just me and the AOMED (age onset misunderstand everything disorder). Many of us learn from this site. We also talk to our instructors and mentors, but, we still like to come here and learn/keep our heads in the sport. When people respond to incorrect information, it sparks conversation/criticism. When I get confused from this information (again, probably the AOMED) I seek out experienced jumpers for correct info.

I just became voter 120 and, my parents would be proud to know, I just pushed the boobie vote over the top!!!! Whoot! Oh, I agree with Top and Scrumpot above. That's why my profile lists me as (and probably always will, a STUDENT of the sport! Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

You ask good questions here. If I'm reading this correctly, you said you saw the deployment bag spin? I would ask you what body position allows you to see the D-bag during the opening sequence? Then, is that body position correct? Or... Think of the ideal body position for a clean opening. Now, if you are in that position, can you see the D-Bag or deploying material? My first reserve ride (many decades ago) was from a chest mount reserve. I watched that deployment and it's ingrained in my memory. I've not "seen" any deployments since then. I've also not had a reserve ride in 30+ years. As stated above, chaos is the best way to describe a deploying canopy. But, good body position is the best tool you have to survive the chaos. Learn to "fly your openings", from free fall flight right thru to canopy flight. There's a transition going on, but it's all about flight! hmmm? Don't be surprised if they aren't going to compare prints with those found on various radio towers, tall buildings, and other structures that have been broken into and jumped. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
