With 200 Jumps loading 1,46 (Sabre 2 135)
skyjumpenfool replied to enta's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Some of us (I hope I was one of them) were trying to give you good advice. After reading your last couple of comments, I'm sorry I responded to you at all. Your true colors are now in broad view. It now appears to me that you are looking for validation for a decision you've already made. Sorry, that validation is not forthcoming. Good luck on the postage stamp. Before 12-31-15!!!!! Who cares how many jumps. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -
Vikings/Lions game - bandit or planned?

The only reason to use Lightning's would be (IMHO) if you're planning CRW. For a CRW Demo, I'd rather be on Storms. Bill is right. This demo is going to make it really hard to book any local events for a while. But, as stated up-thread, This is a non-incident blown out of proportion. You won't learn much coming in straight and "really slow". You'd learn more by staying on your 150 and continuing to learn it's limits. There is much to learn there!!! And, screw all you guys with the "Canopy Nazi" comments. We just had a young kid end up in a hospital, severely broken. He assured everyone he was going to "take it easy" on his new postage stamp. To the OP.... Sabre 2 150 is a very capable canopy. 80 jumps means you've just begun to learn it's capabilities. Carry on. At 800 jumps you'll be a better canopy pilot because you stayed on it. IMHO if it matters? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -

I've not heard anything (local scuttlebutt) about the jump? Nothing showing up on the local Facebook page? Most of the locals are Packer Fans.... it's hard to like the Vikings. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -
Vikings/Lions game - bandit or planned?

We were jumping at nearby Skydive Twin Cities today but many experienced jumpers grounded themselves due to strong squirrely winds. In fact, the winds got squirrely around kickoff time. Although some continued to jump, others sat down. I guess I'd characterize the winds as marginal. My guess would be that these winds may have contributed to this event. That being said, I'd hardly qualify this as an incident. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -
The article lists Molalla, OR. The only airport near Molalla is the Skydive Oregon dz. That is a private airport; wholly owned by the dz. Jerry Baumchen Kimmy doesn't care! If she gets her way (and she won't) She'd close every airport in the world. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

...plus, all NEW expenses incurred by the defendants. It sounds as if (if I'm reading this correctly) they want the organization "CQS" to be the only one liable? So later they can walk away from any monetary penalty. Kimmey must be feeling the heat? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

Plane Crash at British Airshow Causes Multiple Casualties
skyjumpenfool replied to ryoder's topic in The Bonfire
I've always said that, given what these (highly skilled professionals) pilots do at airshows, it's amazing more crashes don't happen. Time after time, they make the absolutely incredible look easy. It is indeed, a sad month for airshows. Especially from a PR perspective. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -

From the article.... "Since parting ways with the club, Kelly has been pursuing his own business. He filed paperwork this spring establishing Freefall Aviation LLC and Para-Lease LLC, listing his parents' home in Darien as the base of operations. FAA records show Kelly also recently bought a Cessna 182 airplane. Officials at Connecticut Parachutists Inc. say he also is trying to buy Ellington Airport, which would give him control over the skydiving club's lease. Larry Durocher, part of the airport's current ownership group, said the airport is for sale with an asking price of $2.9 million and he has been speaking to several potential buyers." This smells like a business takeover and smear campaign to manipulate the sale of the airport. With $2.9 Mil involved, I'd be very skeptical to judge anyone right now. This is the one that disappoints me. All it proves is that people who know something about aviation don't necessarily understand skydiving... what a pathetically provincial world-view from someone who by their own admission has no stake in the game anymore. I bet there's a deeper story there. Nothing new here. We've seen many times the "good ol' boys" club at the airport not wanting skydivers around. Partly because they don't understand the sport but mostly because they think the airport is "theirs" and do not like to share. Unfortunate? you also have to pay for coach jumps till you get your A license yes? Isn't that the case at 90% of DZs? Or am I just set in our Canadian ways? The OP never bitched about the cost. His beef was with the people and their inability to see him as important. Not just a few, but everyone at 4 different DZ's. I suspect his self worth is over priced? unstable exits (large man meets small door)
skyjumpenfool replied to point-break's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Try this simple trick... Poised exits from both the Cessna and the Caravan are similar (for this exercise). And, it's very simple... Find where the strut attaches to the wing and watch that spot as you leave the plane. Watch it for as long as possible and you'll find yourself, all of a sudden, stable. Your head is the key here. You'll find that it's almost impossible to arch unless your head is back(try it). Conversely, it's just as difficult to de-arch with your head down. To watch that spot on the plane, you're head will have to be back forcing the arch that you need. Hope this helps... Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -
Yep, 90 feet was my highest. Even though I entered the water correctly, it sent a shock wave thru my bones. I pulled one (very experienced diver) out of the water at Taylers Falls after he went in crooked from 60 feet. He suffered from that dive for years. 40 feet is high enough to hurt you bad. I found about 30 feet to be my magic number. When I messed up, it hurt me but didn't break me. And, there was enough time for several flips and a twist or two before you landed. But this guy, over 190 feet?? I can't even imagine entering the water from that "altitude". Not to mention the skill it took to keep falling in control? Amazing! Ahhh, that explains your position. Thank you. I was jumping the canopy with 1.33 and Higher (to 1.8). What is the problem landing at 1.1 etc.? Toggle pressure? Flair? Dive? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

I did a bunch of jumps on the Storm (CRW loaded at 1.33) canopies and was very impressed with them. So, I demo'd the sport version (various wing loadings) and really liked they way they flew/opened/landed. It's my understanding that Wingsuiters have over 200 skydives. That's why, at a reasonable wing loading, I thought a Storm would be a good choice. Not being a wingsuiter, I defer to your expertise. Again, I agree that wing loading my be the key here. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

I read thru your post. My first thought was that you need to find a DZ that has "dedicated" load organizers that really want to work with newly minted A license jumpers to bring them along in the sport. I also, by the end of your post, began to feel that maybe you are part of the problem. It's not uncommon that students feel they are moving too slow in their progression. It's hard for them to be grounded when others (instructors with many thousands of jumps) are allowed to jump. And, being told that you need to develop better "belly" skills before you try free flying, wing suiting, or other advanced disciplines is not easy to hear. Get over yourself! Regardless how much you know about helicopters or how many military static line jumps you have, your still a student and NEED to be treated that way. Sometimes, good instructors need to tell you that to keep you safe and bring you back to earth (in more ways than one). I hope you stick with the sport long enough to learn why I say this to you. Good luck with your future training. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
